This machine complies with all relevant legal safety r equirements. Improper use can, however , present a risk of both personal injury and material damage. T o avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the machine, please read these instructions carefully befor e installation and before using it for the first time.
This equipment may only be used in mobile installations such as ships, caravans, aircraft etc. if a risk assessment of the installation has been carried out by a suitably qualified engineer . The machine is not suitable for connection to a hot water supply .
Use Caution. Danger of scalding. The spouts and the liquids dispensed are very hot. Never look directly at the lighting or use optical instruments to look at it. The use of the machine by the elderly or infirm or those who have not used the appliance before should be supervised by a competent and responsible person to avoid the risk of injury .
Do not use steam cleaning apparatus to clean the machine. Pressurised steam could r each the electrical components and cause a short circuit. Clean the machine every day to prevent a build-up of bacteria. All parts, except the brew unit and the coffee been container , are dishwasher safe.
This machine can be used to prepar e espresso, coffee, cappuccino, milk froth and hot water . This machine has a container for coffee beans so that they can be freshly ground on demand for every cup to benefit fully from the flavour . The ground cof fee can also be moistened with hot water ( Pre-brewing ), to develop the ar oma.
T o ensure that the flavour can develop fully and be maintained for longer the machine has an additional function to automatically rinse and pre-warm the system when the machine is cold. The same function is used to flush coffee remains out of the system and the spouts after use.
The following notes should help you get to know your coffee machine before starting to use it. Sensor controls This machine has sensor controls which r eact to touch.
The welcome screen will be displayed each time the machine is switched on until the first 5 drinks (including steam) have been prepar ed: Míele Willkommen When you use the machine for the very first time you will be prompted to select a language.
Please clean the machine thoroughly befor e filling it (see "Cleaning and care"). Filling and emptying the water container The quality of the water plays an important par t in the overall quality of the coffee. If the machine is plumbed into the mains drinking water supply , the water container will fill automatically .
^ If filling the water container manually , take off the lid and fill the water container with cold, clean tap water up to the "Max." mark. A valve at the front of the water container will ensur e that water cannot escape.
^ Pull the lid forwards again, push the cof fee bean container back into place and close the machine door . Adding gr ound coffee If you want to use ready gr ound coffee, you can add gr ound coffee to the specially designed cof fee chute. T o do this: ^ Pull the cover for the coffee chute right out of the machine and open up the lid (1.
Important: the water piping must be rinsed through every day and the machine cleaned thoroughly befor e the first drink of coffee is pr epared. Rinsing will take place automatically if the Automatic rinsing programme option has been set to "On" and the machine is cold.
Pre-warming cups The cups should always be pre-warmed to allow the flavour to develop and be retained. The ar oma of espresso does not react well to cold, The smaller the volume of coffee/espr esso, the more important it is to pre-warm the cup. Use a plate war ming drawer if you have one.
Preparing espresso and coffee fr om freshly gr ound beans ^ Place a cup under the coffee spouts. The coffee is always dispensed simultaneously fr om both spouts.
T o prepare tw o cups at the same time ^ Place a cup under each of the coffee spouts. ^ T ouch the sensor beside espresso or cof fee and then touch the sensor beside "2 portions". The machine will now prepar e a second portion of espresso or coffee a few seconds after the first one.
If you have not added an y ground coffee , you must select "No" . Otherwise the machine will assume that there is gr ound coffee in the chute and so only water will be dispensed the next time coffee is made! ^ Place a cup under the coffee spouts.
Cappuccino and milk froth Using for the fir st time Before the cof fee machine leaves the factory , the pipework is completely pumped out. For this reason, water must be pumped into the pipework before using the machine to make a cappuccino or to froth milk for the first time: ^ Place an empty cup under the Cappuccinatore spout.
Cappuccino T o prepar e a cappuccino you will need a large china or porcelain cup and a jug of milk. Froth is best made fr om cold, skimmed or semi-skimmed milk. Because the milk needs to be frothed, onl y one portion of Cappuccino can be prepar ed at one time.
Frothing milk T o froth milk separately , use a cold, stainless steel jug that narrows towar ds the top. Froth is best made fr om cold, semi-skimmed milk. ^ Fill the glass jug supplied with cold milk and place it under the Cappuccinatore suction tube.
A good espresso or cof fee with a thick, even crema (fr oth) depends not only on the quality , pressure and temperatur e of the water and the quality of the coffee beans, but also on the quantity of beans and how finely they are gr ound. The crema should have an even colour with dark stripes running through it.
T o alter the grinder setting ^ push the slide control to the left (for finer grinding) or to the right (for coarser grinding). Y ou should be able to feel the notches when moving the slide control. If the slide refuses to move, ^ close the machine and dispense a cup of espresso cof fee.
It is easy to customise your machine to suit your exact requir ements. The following settings are available: Language: Czech, Danish, German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch, Norwe.
Plate warmer: Automatic, On, Off Plumbed in water supply: On, Off Factory default: All settings, User pr ofiles A more detailed explanation of the pr ogramme options is given in the individual sections. Selecting a language If you want to change the language used in the display , use the Settings menu and follow the flag symbol.
Time of day ^ T ouch the upper or lower sensor on the right until "Settings" is visible on the left of the display . ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Settings". Settings ß Language F ß Time of day ß Timer ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Time of day".
Setting the time of day ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Set". ^ First set the hours by touching the sensors on the right beside "+" or "-".Then touch the sensor beside "ok". ^ Now set the minutes by touching the sensors on the right beside "+" or "-".
If rinsing is set to "On", the machine will automaticall y carry out a brief rinse when it switches itself on. If the machine has switched itself on automatically 3 times and no drinks or ho.
Switch off at: If you always use your machine at a particular time of the day you can set it to switch off automatically at a specific time. ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Switch off at". ^ Set the time you want the coffee machine to switch of f at by touching the sensors on the right beside "+" or "-".
– If the crema is very dark brown on one side, graduating almost to white on the other , it could mean that too much coffee is being used. Select the User profile for which you want to set the amount of coffee and ^ touch the sensor beside "Settings".
Settings ß Timer ß Amount of coffee ß Pre-brewing ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Pre-br ewing". A tick will appear beside the option which is currently set. ^ T ouch the sensor beside the setting you want and touch the sensor beside "ok" to save the setting.
A tick will show which temperature is curr ently set for this type of drink. ^ T ouch the sensor beside "ok". Y ou can now alter the temperatures for the other drinks in the same way . ^ If you do not want to alter the temperature of any of the other drinks, touch " + C".
Steam system The machine has two heating systems. This means that the coffee machine can be used not only to pr epare espr esso / coffee but also to pr epare milk fr oth / cappuccino using steam at any time. However , the steam system can be switched off if the machine is rar ely used to prepar e milk froth / cappuccino.
Lighting (with the machine s witched on) The "Lighting" option in the "Settings" menu allows you to decide which type of lighting to have when the mac hine is switc hed on . The lighting can be switched on automatically , switched off or even dimmed.
^ T ouch the middle sensor on the left or the right to set the brightness. ^ T ouch the sensor beside "ok" to save the setting. ^ T ouch the " + C" sensor to return to the previous settings.
^ Set the duration after which you want the lighting to switch off by touching the sensors on the right beside "+" or "-". ^ T ouch the sensor beside "ok" to save the setting. The lighting will now switch off after the time you have set.
The tick will show if the system lock has been set to "Can be activated" or "Cannot be activated". ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Can be activated". If you touch the sensor beside "Cannot be activated" then the machine cannot be locked.
Y our local water authority will be able to tell you the hardness of water in your area. Alternatively , you can measure the hardness yourself using the enclosed test strip: ^ Dip the strip in your drinking water for approximately a second, then shake off any excess water .
T o set the correct water har dness level, ^ touch the sensor beside "Settings". Settings ß Total no. of coffees ß System lock ß Water hardness ^ T ouch the sensor beside "W ater hardness". ^ T ouch the upper or middle sensor on the right until the correct water har dness is visible on the left of the display .
Create T o create a new User pr ofile, ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Set". ^ T ouch the middle sensor on the right or left of the display until the first letter is highlighted. Then touch the sensor beside "Select character". ^ Repeat this step until the name you want for the new User profile appears in the display .
^ Now change the name and touch the sensor beside "ok". Change Y ou can programme the machine so that it always reverts to the Standard pr ofile or so that it continues to operate using a User profile you have set. T o set the profile to be used: ^ touch the sensor beside "Change".
Display Y ou can adjust both the contrast and the brightness of the display: ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Settings". Settings ß Water hardness ß User profile ß Display ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Display".
Plate warmer Y ou can connect a Miele EGW 4000-14 or EGW 4000-29 plate warmer to the coffee machine using a special connection cable available as an optional accessory from your Miele Dealer or the Miele Spare Parts Department.
Plumbed in water supply The machine is designed to be plumbed into the mains drinking water supply . This mains water connection can be switched on or off. When this is set to "On" water is drawn from the mains water supply and when set to "Of f" water is taken from the machine's water container .
The flavour of the coffee pr oduced depends on the type of coffee, the amount of cof fee used, how finely the beans are ground and particularly , the quantity of water used. Not all cups are the same size. T o ensur e the machine uses the right amount of water to suit your taste and your cups, you can programme in the amount to be used.
Always allow the machine to cool down before cleaning. Danger of scalding. Do not clean the machine with a steam cleaner as this will damage the machine. Never use cleaners containing chlorides, acids, soda or scouring agents. These would damage the surface.
W ater container Empty the water container daily and - if you are not using the plumbed in water supply - fill with fresh, cold drinking water just before use. When cleaning, make sure that ther e is no soiling in the area ar ound the valve. Otherwise the container will not sit correctly and this could r esult in water leaking from the machine.
^ Also clean the now accessible area in the machine wher e the waste container sits, thoroughly . ^ Push the waste container fully back into the machine. Drip tray There is a sensor in the drip tray which causes a message to appear in the display when the drip tray is full and needs to be emptied.
^ Push the drip tray with the grid along the right hand edge back into the machine. ^ Close the machine door . Grille with drip tray co ver ^ T ake the grille and drip tray cover out and wash them. Coffee bean container The coffee bean container m ust be cleaned b y hand with hot water and a little washing-up liquid.
Coffee outlet connection The part which connects the brew unit and the coffee outlet is located on the inside of the machine door . ^ Clean this connection regularly with a damp cloth, taking care not to wipe the gr ease off the seal. ^ Lubricate the seal at least once a month with the grease supplied.
Brew unit The brew unit must be c leaned manuall y once a week because the moving parts are lubricated and the rubber seals could become brittle in a dishwasher .
^ Wipe any remaining cof fee off the two filters. One filter is located in the funnel a and the other to the left of the funnel b . ^ Dry the funnel area a to prevent gr ound coffee fr om sticking to it. ^ Clean the inside of the machine and remove any cof fee residues.
Degreasing the brew unit Depending on the natural oil content of the coffee used, the brew unit could become blocked. It should therefor e be cleaned after approx.
When Please place a cleaning tab let in the ground coffee chute appears in the display , ^ Remove the coffee chute cover and open the lid of the coffee chute. ^ Place a cleaning tablet into the coffee chute. ^ Close the lid, replace the cof fee chute cover and close the machine door .
^ T ouch the sensor beside "Maintenance". ^ T ouch the sensor beside "Rinse Cappuccinatore". ^ Place a glass of water under the suction tube and a descaling funnel under the Cappuccinatore spout to dir ect the water safely into the drip tray and press the sensor next to OK.
^ Dismantle the parts. Remove the par t with the seals by turning and then pulling it. ^ W ash the parts in the dishwasher . After cleaning, lubricate the seals with the grease supplied. Make absolutely sure that none of the small holes in the parts are blocked (see arrow).
^ that all the guide points line up. ^ Place the Cappuccinatore in the machine fr om below a and turn the cover above the spout in the direction of the arrow b . Do not use the machine without the Cappuccinatore in place. Steam would escape, uncontrolled, fr om the machine.
Machine fr ont ^ Clean the front of the machine with a solution of hot water and washing-up liquid applied with a damp cloth. Wipe everything dr y with a soft cloth.
Aluminium fronts Aluminium is affected by the way that light falls on it, by the surrounding envir onment and by the angle you observe it from. Aluminium surfaces and controls may suffer discolouration or damage if soiling is left on for too long. Remove any soiling straight away .
The machine should be descaled regularly to ensur e that it functions correctly . It will remind you when this needs to be carried out. When only 50 portions can be made before the next descaling programme has to be run, the following message will appear in the display for the first time: " 50 drinks can be made.
T o run the descaling programme ^ If you want to descale the machine bef ore it has heated up touch the sensor beside "Descale" in the initial menu to begin the descaling programme.
^ Fit the descaling funnels under the spouts as illustrated. The bottom of the funnel fits into the drip tray to enable the descaling agent to be collected in it. During the descaling programme, water containing descaling agent will run out of the hot water and the cappuccinatore spouts.
Repairs to electrical appliances should only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with curr ent local and national safety regulations. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufactur er cannot be held liable for unauthorised work.
. . . the machine sud denly s witches itself off. The machine will switch itself off automatically after a certain length of time if it is not being used. This time depends on the switc h off time which has been programmed . The water temperature could be too high .
. . . the coffee grinder makes a louder noise than usual. There could be stones in amongst the cof fee beans. ^ Switch the machine off immediately . ^ Contact the Miele Service Department. . . . the coffee grinder makes less noise than usual. The coffee bean container is empty .
^ Select a slightly coarser coffee grinder setting or a lower setting for the amount of coffee to be gr ound. . . . the machine door will not c lose. ^ Are the containers in position corr ectly? . . . the steam system is s witched off but steam is still av ailable.
^ Buff the contacts a little, e.g. with fine glasspaper or emery cloth. ^ If this fault message continues to appear , please call the Miele Service Department. . . . the machine does not rinse thr ough when switc hed on, even though the A utomatic rinsing programme is set to "On".
. . . the coffee mac hine makes loud noises during the descaling programme. During the descaling programme you will hear loud noises as water is flushed through the machine under high pr essure.
. . . the fault message 10 or 17 appear s. W ater has not been taken in. ^ The water container has not been correctly positioned inside the machine. Remove the water container and push it back into position again, making sure it is positioned correctly .
. . . too m uch crema has formed and is o verflowing abo ve the coffee spouts. Some types of coffee will pr oduce too much crema if the coffee or espr esso temperature is set to maximum and the amount of coffee to be gr ound is set too high. ^ Set a lower temperature and r educe the amount of coffee to be ground.
. . . fault message 73 appear s in the display . The brew unit is dirty and cannot be positioned correctly . ^ T ouch the " + C" sensor . ^ T ake the brew unit out of the machine and clean it thoroughly (see "Cleaning and car e - Brew unit").
In the event of a fault which you cannot correct yourself, please contact: – your Miele Dealer or – the Miele Service Department (see back cover for address). When contacting your Dealer or the Service Department, please quote the model and serial number of your machine.
Notes on connecting to the mains water supply Connection to the mains water supply should only be carried out by a qualified and competent person in strict accordance with national and local safety r egulations. This machine conforms to IEC 61770 and EN 61770.
Connecting the water inlet hose to the coffee machine ^ Remove the cover cap from the bottom of the back panel of the machine. Connect the angled end of the stainless steel hose to the threaded connection of the machine. Ensur e that all connections are water tight.
All electrical work should be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person only , in strict accordance with current national and local safety r egulations (BS 7671 in the UK). Installation, repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
Non-rewireab le plugs BS 1363 The fuse cover must be refitted when changing the fuse, and if the fuse cover is lost, the plug must not be used until a suitable replacement is obtained.
Building-in and combination options The coffee machine is designed to be built into a tall unit. It can also be combined with other Miele built-in appliances. If the coffee machine is to be built in above another appliance, there must be a full-width, closed shelf between them (except when it is combined with a Miele built-in plate warming drawer).
Installation Before installation make sur e that there is no power supply to the machine. This also applies should it ever need to be taken out of its housing unit. The machine must be built in before it is operated. T wo allen keys (size 3 and 5) ar e requir ed for installation.
^ Connect the machine to the electricity supply . ^ Push it all the way into the niche until you feel resistance. ^ Open the machine door and partially tighten the side socket screws. ^ Carefully turn the lower socket screws a to centr e the machine in the niche.
Adjusting the door hinges If the machine door becomes difficult to open or close after installation you can adjust the hinges to realign it: ^ T o adjust the door in direction a , turn screw a . ^ T o adjust the door forwards or backwar ds, (direction b ), turn screw b .
