9 7 7 Sett ing the Displ a y Resolu tion Choosing the Best Resolution All L iquid Cryst al Displays (LCDs) have a f ixed resolut ion that is the same as the max imu m resolut ion that may be displayed on the LCD. In the case of the DV158 the LCD resolution is 1024 x 768 pi xels.
10 Supported Graphics Modes and Refr esh Rate Sele ction There is no need to choose the highest possible refresh rate when using an LCD monitor . It is not technical ly possible for an LCD mon itor to fl icker . Even a t a re fresh rate of 60 Hz you will get an absolutely fl icker-f ree i mage.

12 8 8 Adj ust ing the Mo ni tor Picture Optimisation The easiest way to obtain an opti mal picture is by using the Auto button. This only works reliably i f the graphics adaptor is set to use one of the monitor ’ s factory modes (see T able 1 in the pre vious chapter) and if you are displaying an appropriate ful l-screen test pattern.
