6 C HAPTER 1: S WITCH 8800 C OMPONENTS Fabric Module The Fabric module (3C17508) is the core of Switch 8800 system. It has the following fu nctions: ■ Connects the I/O modules through a cr ossbar .
Fabric Module 7 ■ RS232/RS485 port ■ Console Port ■ AUX (Modem) Port Compact Flash (CF) Port The Fabric module provides a CF port to accommodate a standar d CF car d, wher e you can save logging information, host ve rsion inform ation, al arming an d other diagnostic information.
8 C HAPTER 1: S WITCH 8800 C OMPONENTS Console Port The console port is connected to the configuratio n terminal using an RJ-45 connector . Y ou can use the console port for system debugging, configuration, maintenance, management, and loading application files.
I/O Modules 9 Fabric S tatus LEDs The Fabric status LEDs show the status of the Fabric module, as described in Ta b l e 11 . I/O Modules The Switch 8800 provides slots for five to twelve I/O modules, in addition to the Fabric slots.
10 C HAPTER 1: S WITCH 8800 C OMPONENTS Ta b l e 13 li sts specifications of th e 1-port 10GBASE -X (XENP AK) module. 2-Port 10GBASE-X (XFP) Module The 2-Port 10GBASE-X (XFP) module provides two 10 Gbps XFP ports.
I/O Modules 11 12-Port 1000BASE- X (SFP) Module The 12-Port 1000BASE-X (SFP) module provides 12 1000BASE-X full duplex ports and uses SFP cable. Each port on the 12-Port 1000BASE-X (SFP) module has 2 LEDs, as shown in Figure 4.
12 C HAPTER 1: S WITCH 8800 C OMPONENTS 24-Port 1000BASE-X (SFP) Module The 24-port 1000BASE-X (SFP) module provides 24 1000BASE-X full duplex ports and uses SFP cable.
I/O Modules 13 24-Port 10/100/1000BASE-T (RJ45) Module The 24-Port 10/100/1000BASE-T (RJ4 5) module provides 24 10/100/1000BASE-T (RJ45) auto-sensing Et hernet p orts. Figure 6 illustrates the fr ont panel of the 24-port 10/100/1000BASE-T (RJ45) module.
14 C HAPTER 1: S WITCH 8800 C OMPONENTS Power Supply The Switch 8800 power supplies are installe d at the bottom of the chassis, in the front. Only one AC power supply is r equired for each Switch 8800 chassis, although 2 power supply slots are provided to implement 1+1 redundancy .
Fan Assembly 15 Power Cords In North America, power cor ds for both 110 V and 220 V power input are shipped with the Switch 8800 chassis. The power cord requir ed depends on the power output demands of the system. Ta b l e 24 lists the power cord type that is requir ed for each power supply .

T o connect a terminal or PC to the Switch 8800 using the console cable: 1 Plug the DB-9 or DB-25 female plug of the console cable to the serial port of the PC or the terminal where the switch is to be configured.

52 C HAPTER 6: T ROUBLESHOOTING The following list describes po tential problems with the power supply and their solutions. ■ The INPUT LED and OUTPUT LED are on, but the display power command shows that the power supply is not in position. The other power supply is operating normally .
