3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES General Operation 1. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manual(s) before attempti ng to assemble and ope rate. Keep this manual in a safe place for future and regular re ference and for o rdering replacement parts.
4 27. Use only acce ssories and attachments approved for this machine by the machine manufacturer. Read, understand and follow all in structions provided with the approved accessory or attachmen t. 28. Data indicates th at operators, age 60 years and above, are involved in a large percentage of ridi ng mower- related injuries.
5 b. Never fill containers inside a vehicle or on a truck or trailer bed with a pla stic liner. Always pla ce containers on the ground away from your vehicle before filling. c. When practical, remove gas-powered equipment from the truck or trailer and refue l it on the ground.
6 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE 15° SIGHT AND HOLD THIS LEVEL WITH A VER TICAL TREE A POWER POLE A CORNER OF A BUILDING OR A FENCE POST F O L D O N DO T T E D L I N E , RE P RE S E NT I NG A 1 5 ° S L O P E Do not mow on inclines with a slope in excess of 15 de grees (a rise of appr oximately 2-1/2 feet every 10 fee t).
7 SECTION 3: TRACTOR SET-UP NOTE: This manual covers spe cifications of two models. Plea se follow instruct ions and parts numbe rs pertaining to your tracto r only. Attaching the Battery Cables NOTE: If these cables are already attached, pr oceed to “Attaching Ste ering Wheel.
8 2. Slide the seat slightly rearward in the sea t pivot brac ket, lining up the rear slots in the pivot bracket with the remaining two holes in the seat’s base. 3. Select desired posit ion for the seat, and secure with the two knobs removed earlier.
9 SECTION 4: OPERATION Know the Controls Read this owner’s manual and safety rules befor e operating your lawn mower. Compare figure below with your lawn tractor to lear n about the loction and purpose of various controls and adjustments. Save th is manual for future reference.
10 Throttle Control Lever The throttle contr ol lever controls the speed of the en gine. When set in a given position, the throttle will maintain a uniform engine speed. IMPORT ANT : When operating th e tractor with the cutting deck engage d, throttle co ntrol lever must always be in the FAST (rabbit) position.
11 Headlights • To turn on the hea dlights, rotate the same ignitio n key from ON position to ON/LIGHTS position of the ign ition switch. • To turn off th e headlights, rotate the i gnition key from ON/LIGHTS position to eith er ON position (to leave the engine running) or OFF position (to shut the engine off).
12 • To change to th e reverse direction when operating wit h cruise control, depress t he brake pedal to disengage the cruise control and bring the tracto r to a complete stop. Th en place the shift lever in the REVERSE position and depress the drive pedal.
13 Starting the Engine NOTE: Re fer to the TRACTOR SET-UP o n page 7 manual f or gasoline and oil f ill-up instructions. 1. Insert the tractor key in to the ignition switch. 2. Disengage t he PTO (Blade Engage) lever. 3. Engage the t ractor’s parking brake.
14 • For best results it is reco mmended that the first two laps be cut with the discharge thrown towards the center. After the first two laps, re verse the direction to throw the discharge to the outside for the bala nce of cutting. This will give a better app earance to the lawn.
15 SECTION 5: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS Seat 1. Flip the seat up as shown in Figure 7. 2. Loosen the two seat adjust ment knobs located under the seat. See Figure 7. 3. Slide the seat forwa rd or rearward, then tighte n the knobs to lo ck the seat at t he desired po sition.

With the trac tor parked on a firm, level surface, place the deck lift lever in the to p notch (highest position) and rotate the blade nearest the discharge chute so that it is parallel with the tractor. 2. Measure th e distance from the fron t of the blade tip to the ground an d the rear of the blade tip to the gro und.
17 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR Engine Refer to th e engine manua l for engine maintenance instructio ns. • Check engine oil level before ea ch use as instructed in the engine man ual . Read and follow instructions carefully. Refer to this manual for details about type and grade of oil.
18 tractor and/or its serviceability . Tire Pre ssu re IMPORT ANT : Never exceed the maximum infl ation pressure shown on the sidewall of the tire . • The recommended operating tire pressure is approximately 10 psi for the r ear tires and 14 psi for the front tires.
19 4. Connect the ot her end of the negative (-) ca ble to the engine block of the stalled tractor, away from the batte ry, and stand back. 5. Start the stalle d tractor and leave it running to char ge the battery. 6. Disconne ct the negative (-) jumpe r cable from the tractor .
20 IMPORT ANT : Each cutting blade edge has to be g round equally to maintain p roper blade b a lance. A p oorly balanced blade will cause excessive vibratio n, may damage the tractor and/or result in personal injury. 5. Test the blade by balancing it on a round shaft screwdriver.
21 IMPORT ANT : When removin g the batter y, disconnect the NEGATIVE (Bla ck) wire from its terminal first, f ollowed by the POSITIVE (Red) wire. Re-install in re verse order. Upper Drive Belt 1. Locate the transmission idl er pulley on the upper drive belt by looking through the ba ttery tray opening.
22 After replacing the drive belts, adjust the drive pedal on your tractor as fo llows: 1. Locate the sp eed control assem bly on the underside of the st eering support bracket. See Figure 17. 2. Remove both hair pin clips from the pin which is fastened to the speed cont rol assembly (be careful not to lose the small flat washers found on the pin).
23 4. Remove the PTO belt from ar ound the engine pulley and the PTO idler pulley. 5. Grasp the deck idler pulley and pivot it toward the left side of the deck to relieve tension on the deck belt. 6. Remove the belt from ar ound all pulleys, including the deck idler pulley.
24 SECTION 7: OFF-SEASON STORAGE • Clean and lubricate th e tractor as instructed on page 17 bef ore storing for an extended per iod. • Follow instructions in the Seasonal Storage section of th e engine manual for proper engine care p rior to storin g your tracto r.
