8 z 2 Ready the camera. 3 F rame the photo graph. Remov e the lens cap and ho ld the camera securely w ith both hands, being careful not to obstruc t the lens, AF-assist illuminator , or microphone. Rotate the camera as shown at lower right when taking pic tures in “tall” (por trait) orientation.
9 z 4 Focus . Press the shutter-re lease button half- way to focus . I f the subject is poorly lit, the AF-assist illuminator ( 0 2) may light to assist the focus operation. I f t h e ca m e r a is a b le t o f o c u s , the selected focus area will be highlighted in green and a beep will sound (a beep may not sound if the subject is moving).

13 z A Buffer Size The camera is equipped with a memory buffer for t emporary storage, allowing shooting to continue while photographs are being saved to the memory card. Up to 100 photographs can be taken in succession; note, how ever , that the frame rate will drop or shooting will pause when the buffer is full.

17 8 2 Frame the photograph. 3 Begin buffering photographs. Holding the camera as sh own on page 8, compose the phot ograph with your subject in the center of the frame. Press the shutter-re lease button half- way to focus ( 0 9). An icon will be dis- played as the camera begins recording images to the memor y buffer .
18 8 4 Shoot. Smoothly pr ess the shutt er-relea se button the r est of the way down. The camera will c ompare shots re corded to the buffer both before and af ter the shutter-r elease button was pr essed, and selec t five to copy to the memory card. Note that some time ma y be required .

9 28 9 Motion Snapshot Mode Choose Motion Snapshot mode to recor d brief movie vignettes with your photo graphs. Each time the shutter is released, the camera records a still image and about a second of movie foot- age.

30 9 ❚❚ Choosing a Theme A Buffering Buffering begins when the shutter- release button is pressed halfway and ends after about 90 seconds or when the shutter-release button is pressed all the way down.
31 9 Deleting Motion Snapshots T o delete the current Motion Snapshot, press O . A confirmation dialog will be display ed; press O again to de lete the photo and movie a nd return to pla y- back, or pre ss K to exit without deleting the file . Note that once deleted, Motion Snapshots can not be recov ered .

t 36 t More on Photograph y The self-timer and optional ML -L3 remote contr ol ( 0 48) can be used to reduce camera shake or for self-portraits. The following options are available: 1 Mount the camera on a tripod. Mount the camera on a tripod or place the camera on a sta- ble, level surf ace.
37 t 3 Select the desir ed option. 4 Frame the photograph and shoot. Self- timer m ode : P ress the shutter- release button halfway to focus , and then press the button the rest of the way down . The self-timer lamp will star t to blink and a beep will begin to sound.

56 n Do not drop : The product may malfunc- tion if subjected to strong shocks or vibration. Keep dry : This product is not water- proof , and may malfunc tion if immersed in water or exposed to high levels of hum idity. Rusting of the internal mec hanism can cause irreparable damage.
57 n Cleaning : When cleaning th e camera body, use a blower to ge ntly remove dust and lint, then wipe gentl y with a soft, dry cloth. A fter using the camera at the beach or seaside, wipe off any sand or salt using a cloth lightly dampened in pure water and then dr y the camera thoroughly.
58 n Lines : Noise in the form of lines may in rare cases appe ar in pictures of extremely bright or backlit subjects. Batteries : Batteries may le ak or explode if improperly handled.
