Shooting basics 2 37 Shooting modes There are seven modes from which you ca n choose depending on the shooting condit ions and the eff ect you want to achieve. The contr ast, sharpness, etc. are set in the optimal condition for each mode. The sh ooting modes can be combined with the various se tting select ions in the Shortcut Menus and Mode Menu.

Shooting basics 2 47 Night scene mode Setting the mode to NI GHT SCENE allows you to take landscape shots at night under opt imum conditions. In this mode, t he shutter speed is not fi xed to 1/30 secon d even when th e flash is activat ed. Dependi ng upon the subject or shooting conditi ons, shutter speed may extend up to 2 seconds.

By combining the optical zoom with the digit al zoom, you can obtain a zoom magnif ication equivalent t o approximat ely 10 × max.

T o shoot a subject with backlight, posit ion the AF target mark over th e subject in the viewfinder . This mode is useful when you want to minimize shadows around t he subject (such as the shade of tree leaves on the subject’ s face), in backligh t conditio n, or under artificia l light such as a f luorescent l amp.
Advanced shooting 3 57 Chapter 3 Advanced shooting T aking close-up pictures (Macro mode) The macro mode allo ws you to shoot a subject at a distance of 0.2 - 0.8 m/ 0.7 - 2.6 ft. If you take a close-up picture of a subject at this distance using the norma l shooting mode, it will take more time for the camera to focus on the subject.

4 F l owch ar t By connecting the camera to a computer with the provided USB cable, images on a card can be transferred to the computer. Some OS’s (operating systems) may need a special setup before connecting to the camera for the first time. Follow the chart below.
