16 Music Scan The following operation is possible only when using the supplied remote contr oller (RC-475MD). Pressing the M.SCAN button plays the beginning (eight seconds) of each track on the disc in sequence whether the MD recor der is either playing or stopped.

21 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations CD-dubbing (System operation) CD-dubbing (System operation) Setting the CD dubbing mode The MD-101A provides two CD dubbing modes: Album dubbing and Fade Out dubbing. These modes ar e applied only to CD dubbing, but not to other operations, such as signal synchr o r ecording.
22 CD-dubbing (System operation) 4 Select a recor ding mode. Press the REC MODE button to select the desired r ecording mode. REC MODE MONO : Monaural recording mode. The available recor ding time is twice as much as that for “ SP . ” SP : Normal stereo r ecording mode.
23 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations CD-dubbing with track specified When this MD recor der is configured into a system with the R-801A and C-701A, only one track with CD playing or pausing can be recor ded by using the one-touch operation.
24 Recor ding 1 Press the ST ANDBY/ON button. The ST ANDBY indicator goes out. 2 Load a recor dable MD. T o check the time remaining for recor ding When the MD recor der is stopped, press the DISPLA Y button.

26 T o manually recor d a track number While recor ding, press the REC button when you wish to mark a track number . If you wish to mark two or more track numbers sequentially , provide a sufficient interval between each press of the REC button. T oo short an interval (about 4 seconds or less) may lead to a failure in marking track numbers.

29 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Recording (continued) Using the Level Sync function The Level Sync function enables you to automatically number the tracks by detecting the rise of the signal level at the beginning of each track.
30 Signal Synchro r ecording Even if your recor ding source is not Onkyo -compatible, you can perform synchronized r ecording. Y ou can also make signal synchro recor ding from a connected CDR-201A. 1 Press the INPUT button repeatedly until “ Digital In 1, ” “ Digital In 2, ” or “ Analog In ” appears.
31 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations CD-synchro r ecording When your MD recor der is configured into a system with Onkyo Separate Collection series components (R-801A and C-701A), the operation of the MD recor der can be synchronized with that of the CD player .
32 Synchro-r ecording fr om or CD recor der to MD When your MD-101A is configured into a system with Onkyo Separate Collection series components (R-801A and CDR-201A), synchronized r ecording fr om the MD recorder is possible. 1 Press the INPUT button repeatedly until “Analog In” appears.
33 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Timer operation When your MD recor der is configured into a system with Onkyo Separate Collection series components (R-801A), you can recor d the desired br oadcasting programs or play your favorite MD at a specified time using the tuner's timer .
34 Checking the contents of recor ding • Stop recor ding and press the button to play the tracks that were just r ecorded. • T o play from the beginning of the MD, stop recor ding, press the button again, then press the button or the button on the remote controller .
35 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations 3 Press the MUL TI JOG knob. The selected track is erased. When the erasing is complete, “ Complete ” appears in the display . • When a track is erased, the tracks following that track are advanced.

Y ou cannot, however , combine a digital track and an analog track. Y ou cannot combine two tracks that were r ecorded in differ ent recor ding modes, either .

40 Naming a track or disc T o name a disc The MD recor der must be stopped. T o name a track The MD recor der may be stopped, paused, playing, or recor ding. (The characters being entered ar e canceled if the track that is playing or being recor ded changes.

42 Erasing the disc name and all track names at one time The MD recor der must be stopped. 1 Press the STOP button. 2 Press the EDIT/NO button and turn the MUL TI JOG knob to select “ Name Erase ? ” . 44 The MD recor ding system in the unit is significantly differ ent from those used in cassette and DA T decks and is characterized by the limitations described below . Note, however , that these limitations are due to the inher ent nature of the MD recor ding system itself and not to mechanical causes.
45 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Rule 2 Y ou can record the digital input signal of a digital satellite broadcast onto a r ecordable MD via the digital input terminals on an MD recorder tha t is capable of handling a sampling frequency of 32 kHz or 48 kHz.
46 T roubleshooting Symptom ST ANDBY/ON button is pressed, but power does not come on. The unit does not operate or operates poorly . The unit does not play . The sound has a lot of static. The unit does not recor d. Noise is heard r egularly during AM recor ding.

48 Pr ecautions for handling the MiniDisc (MD) The MD is housed in a cartridge, so you can handle it without worrying about dust and fingerprints. Even so, a dirty or warped cartridge may cause malfunction. Remember the following precautions so you can enjoy high-quality sound for a long time.
