10 Front & Rear P a nels —Continued a DIGIT AL IN CO AXIAL These coaxial digital audio inputs are for connecting components with a coaxial digital audio output, such as a CD player or D VD/BD player . They’ re assignable, which means you can assign each one to an input selector to suit your setup.
11 Fr ont & Rear P anels —Continued m CBL/SA T IN A cable or satellite receiv er can be connected here. There is composite video input jack s for connecting the video signal, and there are analog audio input jacks for connecting the audio signal.
12 Speaker P ac kage ■ Rear a Speaker terminals These push terminals are for connecting t he speaker to the HT -R370 with the supplied speaker cables. The supplied speaker cables are color-coded for easy identification. Simply connect each cable to the same-colored positi ve speaker terminal.

15 Enjo ying Home Theater Y ou can use tw o sets of speakers with the A V recei ver: speaker set A and speak er set B . Speaker set A should be used in your main listenin g room for up to 5.1-channel playback. * While spea ker set B is on, speaker set A is re duced to 2 .
16 Connecting the A V receiver Speaker Connection Pre cautions Read the follo wing before connecting your speakers: • Y ou can connect speakers with an impedance of 6 ohms or higher .
17 Connecting the A V receiver —Continued OT H ER S The follo wing illustration sho ws which speaker should be connected to each pair of terminals. 1 Strip 3/8" (10 mm) of insulation from the ends of the speaker cables. (Suppl ied speaker cables are already stripped.
18 Connecting the A V receiver —Continued The speak ers can easi ly be wall mounte d by using the key hole slots. T o prev ent the speaker from vibrating against the wall, attach tw o of the supplied thick rubber stoppers to the rear of each speak er .

The A V receiv er won’ t pick up any radio signals without any an tenna connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
20 Connecting the A V receiver —Continued Connecting an Outdoo r FM Antenna If you cannot achie ve good reception with the supplied indoor FM antenna, try a commercially a vailable outdoor FM antenna instead. Notes: • Outdoor FM antennas work best outside, b ut usable results can sometimes be obtained when installed in an attic or loft.

22 Connecting the A V receiver —Continued By connecting both the audio and video outputs of your D VD player and other A V components to the A V receiv er, you can switch the audio and video signals simultaneously simply by changing the input source on the A V receiv er.
23 Connecting the A V receiver —Continued About HDMI Designed to meet the increased demands of digital TV , HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a ne w digital interface standard for connecting TVs, projectors, D VD/BD players, set-top boxes, and other video components.

34 Connecting the A V receiver —Continued W ith u (Remote Interactiv e), you can use the follo wing special functions: ■ A uto P ower On/Standby When you start playback on a component connected via u , if the A V receiver is on Standb y , it will automatically turn on and select that component as the input source.

36 First Time Setup If you connect to a COMPONENT VIDEO IN, you must assign it to an input select or . For example, if you connect your D VD/BD player to COMPONENT VIDEO IN 2, you should assign it to the D VD/BD input selector .

Y ou can temporarily mute the output of the A V recei ver. T o unmute the A V receiv er, press the remote controller’ s [MUTING] button ag ain, or adjust the volume.
40 Basic Operations —Continued 7 For pri v ate listening, you can connect a pair of stereo headphones (1/4-inch phone plug) to the A V receiv er’ s PHONES jack. Notes: • Alw ays turn down the volume b efore connecting your headphones. • While the headphones plug is inserted in the PHONES jack, the speakers are turned off.
41 Basic Operations —Continued The Music Optimizer function enhances the so und quality of compressed mu sic files. Use it with music f iles that use “lossy” compression, such as MP3. Note: The Music Optimizer function only works with PCM digital audio input signals with a sampling rate belo w 48 kHz and analog audio input signals.
42 Listening to the Radio For AM/FM tuning to work properly , you must specify the AM/FM frequenc y step used in your area. Note that when this setting is changed, all radio pr esets are deleted. Note: This procedure can also be performed on t he A V receiv er by using its [SETUP] b utton, arro w buttons, and [ENTER] button.

66 T r oubleshooting If you hav e any trouble using the A V receiver, look for a solution in this section. If you can’ t resolve the issue yourself, contact your Onkyo dealer . Can’t turn on the A V rec eiver • Make sure that the power cord is plugged into the wall outlet properly .
67 T roub leshooting —Continued • On the A V recei ver , the subwoofer setting in the “3. Sp Config” is set to “No”. Set the subwoofer setting to “Y es”. There’ s no sound with a cer tain signal format • Check the digital audio output setting on the source component.
