3 Hardware Description Accton’s Cheetah Wireless-3501C USB Adapter supports an 1 1 Mbps hal f-duplex connection to Ethernet networks. This ada pter is fully compliant wi th 2.4 GHz DSSS CSMA/CA wireless networking as d efined in IEEE 802.1 1b. It can be inst alled in any notebook or desktop with a USB port.

5 Driver Installation The CD-ROM that comes with the package contai ns the software/drivers fo r the Cheetah Wireless-3501C USB Adapter. New or updat ed drivers can be downloaded from Accton’s web site at: http://www.acctontech.com . For installa tion in Windows 95/98/Me/2000 see the following section.

However, if you are co nnecting to a network via an access point , the adapter will aut omatically set the channel to t he same as that used by the access point.
Setting Wireless Prope rties 13 12. Wired Equivalent Pri vacy (WEP) is implemented in the adapter t o prevent unauthorized access. Fo r more secure data transmissions, set encryption to 128-bit or 64-bit. The 128-bit setti ng gives a higher level of security.

(The Accton access point defa ult is WLAN.) If you will be roaming among multiple access points with diff erent BSS IDs, a value of ANY will allow connection to any ESSID.
Setting Wireless Prope rties 15 15. Enable the International Roaming for mobile workers roaming in an infrastruc ture network. More than one access point may be conf igured with the same SSID to create an Extended Service Set (ESS). See “Roaming Wireless PCs” on page 34 for details.

Cheetah Wireless-3501C USB Adapter 18 18. Rate is the data transmissio n/reception rate setting. It can be set to Auto, 1 Mbps, 2 Mbps, 5.5 Mbps, or 11 Mbps. Usually this should be set to Auto. In a radio frequency hostile envi ronment, a lower rate can provide more stab le transmission qual ity.

After recei ving an RTS frame, the station sends a CTS (Clear to Send) frame to acknowledge the right of the sending station to send data fra mes.
Cheetah Wireless-3501C USB Adapter 20 20. The WEP encryption implemented in Accton’s Wireless USB adapter is base d on the RC4 encryption algorithm. The secu rity keys are four 10 digit keys fo r the 64-bit WEP setting, and one 26-di git key for the 128-bit WEP setting.
