B ASIC OPERA TION 14 P ause feature when using on a P ABX Note: The pause function described in this section is only necessary when the M5500 is used on older P ABX’s. With some P ABX's, there is a short pause between the code for the outside line (usually 0 or 9) and obtaining dial tone.
15 B ASIC OPERA TION Handset v olume control During handset talking mode, 1 . Press or key to adjust the handset volume level: Step 1 (low est) to Step 3 (highest) . 2 . The unit automatically returns to the previous talking mode 2 seconds after pressing the last key .
B ASIC OPERA TION 16 Direct Memories There are 3 Direct memory keys on the base unit: M1, M2, and M3, which allow you to store 3 numbers and dial them directly . Each memory can store up to 24 digits per number and up to 16 characters per name. How to enter names The keypad is used to enter names.

Press key to dial out the number . During On-hook, the unit will turn Speakerphone on automatically , and dial the number after 3 seconds.
CALLER ID OPERA TION 18 If you subscribe to your telephone operators service (charges may apply), numbers of the incoming calls will be displayed on the screen and stored in the call log (please consult your telephone service provider for details).
19 CALLER ID OPERA TION Dial a CID number While you are viewing the CID record that you wish to call, 1 . Press key . 2 . During On-hook, the unit turns the Speakerphone on automatically , and dials the number after 3 seconds. During Off-hook, it dials immediately .
CALLER ID OPERA TION 20 If the Phonebook is full or Direct Memory has been occupied, The display on the right is shown. After 5 seconds, it will return to the previous mode or press key to return to the previous mode.
21 CALLER ID OPERA TION Message W aiting If you have subscribed to the voicemail service from your telephone company , is displayed when you have a new message in your mailbox. If the is displayed, 1 . Call your network service providers to obtain your messages.

PHONEBOOK 24 Phonebook Add ne w recor ds With cor dless handset Y ou can store up to 50 phonebook records in each handset. Each record can contain up to 25 digits per number and 16 characters per name. During standby mode, 1 . Press and hold key . The display on the right is shown.

ANSWERING MA CHINE OPERA TION 40 Recor d OGM 1 . Press key to select OGM1 mode or OGM2 mode. 2 . Press and hold /ANS key until you hear a long beep and see Answer/Message light flash. The display on the right is shown. 3 . Speak into the microphone (15cm from the base unit’s microphone).
41 ANSWERING MA CHINE OPERA TION ICM (Incoming Messages) Recor d ICM During OGM 1 mode, the machine can record callers’ messages. During recording mode, the display on the right is shown. The machine will stop recording 6 seconds after the caller hang up the phone, or stop automatically after recording 2 minutes.
ANSWERING MA CHINE OPERA TION 42 Memo Recor d memo Y ou can record memos for other users of the unit to hear . The maximum recording time is 2 minutes. During standby mode, 1 . Press and hold MEMO key until you hear a long beep. The display on the right is shown.
43 ANSWERING MA CHINE OPERA TION Delete all messages While you are listening to a message, 1 . Press and hold X key . The display on the right is shown. 2 . Press OK key to confirm and you will hear “ All message deleted ”. 3 . Press key to cancel the action.
AD V ANCED ANSWERING SYSTEM 44 Remote contr ol Y ou can access your answering machine when you are away by using any touch tone phone. Y ou have to enter the Security PIN to access the answering machine. The default PIN is 321 (Refer to “T AD PIN setting” on P30) .
45 AD V ANCED ANSWERING SYSTEM Call screening Call screening function allows you to hear the caller (who it is) before you pick up the call during recording incoming messages. T o activate call screening, operate in Menu setting (refer to “call screening mode setting” section on P30).
