Preparation 13 Char ging the Ba ttery with the Char ger When the c amera is shipped, the battery is not charged. Prepara tion 20 Attach ing the Len s Hood In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood will minimize lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts off e xce ss lighting and improv es the picture quality . • Check that the camera is turned off and that the lens is retracted.

Prepara tion 22 Setting Date /Time (Cloc k Set) ∫ Init ial se ttin g The clock is not set w hen the camera is shipped. When you turn the camera on, the fol lowing screen appears. • When pres sing the [MENU] button, the screen shown in step 2 appears.

Recording pictures (basi c) 34 ∫ Focusing • The focus r ange is 0.98 feet (30 cm) – ¶ (Wide), 6.56 feet (200 c m) – ¶ (T ele). • If you press the shutter button fully wit hout prefocusing, pictures ma y be b lurr y or unfocused. • When the focus indicat ion is blinking, the subject is not f ocused.

Recording pictures (adv anced) 70 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is automat ically adjusted from [ISO64] to [ISO200] according to the brightness.
Recording pictu res (advanced) 71 Y ou can se lect 3 types of quality (compression rate) according to the us age of the picture. • W hen the quality is set to [TIFF], a JPEG picture with the quality equal to the standard is c reated at the same time.
Recording pictures (adv anced) 72 Y ou can s witch to the f ollowing metering modes. Meteri ng Mo de [MET ERIN G MODE] Multiple: This is the m ethod in which the camera measures the most suitable ex posure by judging the a llocation of brightness on the whole screen automatically .
Recording pictu res (advanced) 73 • When s etting to 3-area-focusing, pictures may become still while being f ocused on, howe v er , this is not a malfunction. • When u sing the digital zoom or when you take pictures in dar k places, the AF area is displa yed on t he center of the screen with a size wider than usual.
Recording pictures (adv anced) 74 Illuminating the subject with t he AF assist lamp allows the camera t o f ocus on the subject in low light conditions. When you press the shutter button halfwa y in dark places or other situations, an AF area wider than usual appears and the AF assist lamp 1 turns on.
