Introduction 6 Import ant safety instructions When using the product, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury . 1. Read all instructions carefully . 2. Follow all warnings and instru ctions marked on the product.
Introduction 7 CAUTION: Installation L Never install telephone wiring during a lightning sto rm. L Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the ja ck is specifically designed for wet locations. L Never touch uninsulated telepho ne wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected a t the network interface.
Introduction 8 L When a failure occurs which results in the internal parts becoming accessible, disconnect the power suppl y cord immediately and return the product to an authorised service centre.
Introduction 9 L The product should b e kept away from heat sources such as heaters, kitchen stoves, etc. It should not be placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 5 °C or greater than 40 °C.
Preparation 10 Setting up the base unit Overview 1 Connect the AC adaptor. 2 Connect the telephone line cord. Refer to one of the following methods depe nding on your situation.
Preparation 11 Connecting the telephone line cord Connect the telephone line cord until it clicks into the telephon e socket. Making/Answering Calls 20 Making calls While one line is in use, you can make or answer a call using the other line. Using the handset 1 Lift the handset and dial the phone number. L T o correct a digit, press { CLEAR } . 2 Press {C} . L An available line is automatically selected and the l ine number is displayed.

Making/Answering Calls 24 MUTE While mute is turned on, you can hear the other party , but the o ther party cannot hear you. T o mute your voice, press { MUTE } . L T o return to the conversation, press { MUTE } or {C} . Note: L{ MUTE } is a soft key visible on the handset display during a call.
Making/Answering Calls 25 Call share This feature allows the handset and base unit to join an existi ng outside call. T o join the conversation, press { LINE1 } or { LINE2 } to select the line that is being used by another extension for an outside call.

To page another handset, enter its extension number ( { 1 } – { 8 } ).
Multi-unit Operation 50 T ransferring a call to the answering system When you answer a call and the caller wants to talk to someone who is not available, you can transfer the call er to the answering system, where the caller can leave a messa ge. T ell the outside caller you will transfer him or her to the answering system.
Multi-unit Operation 51 3 When the 2nd call is connected, press { CONF } to make a conference call. L T o hang up o nly one line, press { LINE1 } or { LINE2 } fo r the party with which you want to continue talking. L T o put both lines on hold, press { HOLD } .
Multi-unit Operation 52 Room monitor This feature allows you to monitor the room where a unit is located. The monitored unit does no t ring, allowing you to easily monitor a baby’s room, for example, from different areas of the house. Note: L Y ou can pla ce the handset on the base unit or charger while monitoring using the speakerphone.
Multi-unit Operation 53 Registering a handset The included handset and base unit are preregistered. If for some reason the handset is not regist ered to the base unit, register the handset. Important: L If you have already deregistered the handset, perform steps 2 and 3 only .
Useful Information 54 W all mounting 1 Tuck the telephone line cord in side the wall-mounting adapto r ( A ). Connect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord to the base unit ( B ). 2 Insert the hooks on the wal l-mounting adaptor into the holes ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) on the base unit.
