Before Use - 8 - Before Use Maintenance and Waterproof Performance ∫ T o prevent water leaking into the camera, observe the following items before usin g it .

- 11 - Before Use • Use the camera und erwater up to 10 m (33 feet ) depth, wat er temperat ure f rom 0 o C to 40 o C (32 o F to 10 4 o F), and not longer t han 60 mi nutes co nti nuous l y . • If there is wat er or dirt on the camera , use it aft er wiping it of f with a dry soft cl oth and ha ve it dry out in a well v ent ilated area.
Before Use - 12 - 1 With the card/ ba t tery door a nd t erminal cover closed, rinse w ith water , or if it was used in the sea, soak th e unit in fresh water in a shallow contai ner of for 10 minutes or less. • If you have att ached the silicon ja cket, be sure to rinse the camer a after remov ing it.

Preparation - 18 - Preparation Att aching the Silicon J acket It is recommende d to attach the silicon jacket to prevent unintenti onal opening o f the card/battery door or the terminal cover when using the came ra in the mountains or near water . • Check that t his unit is turned of f.
- 19 - Preparation Preparation Charging the Battery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and ba tter y . • The camera has a function for distinguishing batteries which can be used safely . The dedicated battery sup port s this function.
Preparation - 20 - ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicator • When the [CHARGE] indica tor flashes – The batt ery t empe rature is too hi gh or too lo w . It is reco mmend ed to c har ge the ba tt ery aga in in an ambient te mperatur e of betwe en 10 ºC to 35 ºC (50 o F to 95 o F) .
- 21 - Preparation ∫ Charging time • The indic ate d chargi ng ti me is for when the battery has b een discharg ed completel y . The charging ti me may vary dependin g on how the battery has been used. Th e charging time for the battery in hot/cold environments or a battery that has not been used for long time may be longer than normal.

- 23 - Preparation ∫ Playback Note • The operating times and number of recordable pic tures will differ according to the environme nt and the operating conditions. For example , in the following c ases, the o perati ng times shorten and the number of re co rdable pictures is redu ced.
Preparation - 24 - Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • Check that t his unit is turned of f. • Confirm that there is no foreign object. (P8) • We rec ommend us ing a P anasonic ca rd. 1 :Slide the [LOCK ] switch B , an d release the lock.

Preparation - 26 - ∫ Connecting the AC adaptor and multi conversion adaptor instead of the battery The AC Adaptor (optional) can only be used wi th the designated Panasonic multi conversion adaptor (optional). The AC adaptor (optional) cannot be used by itself.

(P15 2) • Memory size: Approx. 40 MB • Recordabl e motion pictur es: QVGA (320 k 240 pixel s) only • The built- in memory can be used as a temporary st or age devi ce when the card bein g us ed becomes f ull.
Preparation - 28 - The following cards which conform to t he SD video s tandard can be used with this unit. (These cards are indicated as card in the te x t.) • Only cards be arin g the SDHC logo (indic ating that the card conforms to SD v i deo standa rds ) may be used as 4 GB to 32 GB car ds.
- 29 - Preparation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the c amera is shipped. Press [MENU/SET] . Press 3 / 4 to sele ct the langua ge, and pres s [MENU/SET]. • [PRECAUTIONS] is displayed. Be sure to check thi s so that you can main t ain the waterproof perform ance.
Preparation - 30 - Press 2 / 1 to select the item s (year , month, day , hour , minute, disp lay sequ ence or tim e display fo rmat), and press 3 / 4 to set. A : T ime at the home area B : T ime at the travel destination (P104) ‚ : Cancel without setting the clock.

Preparation - 40 - • Inter lace meth od/progr essive met hod i= interla ce scanning is s ca nning the scr ee n with half of the ef fective scanning line s every 1/60 seconds, where p= progressi v e scanning is a hig h density image s ignal that is scanning the screen with all t he effe ctive scanni ng lines every 1/ 60 seconds.

- 45 - Basic [REC] Mode: ñ Basic T aking Pictures Using the Autom atic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this Mode f or beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
Basic - 46 - When the camera identifies the optimum scene, the i con of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 seconds, after which its color changes to the usual red. • [ ¦ ] is set if non e of the scenes are applicable, and th e standard settings are set.

Basic - 52 - [REC] Mode: ñ· ¿¨ T aking Pictur es with the Zoom Y ou can zoom-in to make people and objects appear closer or zoom-out to record landscapes in wide angle. T o make subj ects appear even c loser (maximum of 9.8 k ), do not set the picture size t o the highest setting for each aspect ratio ( X / Y / W ).

Basic - 54 - ∫ Exte nde d Opt ical Zoom mec h anism When you set the picture size to [ ] (3 million pixels), the 14M (14.1 million pixels) CCD area is cropped to the center 3M (3 million pixels) area, allowing a picture with a higher zoom effect. Note • The Digital Zoom cannot be set when õ or ¨ has been sel ected.

The Sel f-timer indicator lights up when you are brought into focu s. Mak ing sure you hold the camera still, press the shutter but t on fully to take the picture.

Advanced ( Recording pictures) - 80 - This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you us e the flash, the light from it is weaker t han usual.
- 81 - Advanced ( Recording pictures) Select this when you want to t ake pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’ s birthday and name. Y ou can select to have these appear at the time of playback, or have them stamped on t he recorded image using [TEXT ST AMP] (P140) .

Advanced ( Recording pictures) - 86 - Y ou can use this Mode to easily record pictur es in which bright and dark regions of the scene are expressed with suitable brightness w hen looking into the sun, at night, or in similar circumstances. ∫ Setting the effect 1 Press 3 / 4 to select the effect to use, and then press [MENU/SET].
