Before Use - 14 - Att ach ing the Lens Hood In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood wi ll minimize lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts of f excess lighting and improves the pict ure quality . • Check that t he camera i s t urne d off.

Preparation - 16 - ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicator • When the [CHARGE] indica tor flashes – The batt ery t empe rature is too hi gh or too lo w . It is re commend ed to c har ge the ba tt er y aga in in an ambient te mperature of between 10 o C to 30 o C (50 o F to 86 o F).

Preparation - 20 - Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • T urn the power s witch to [O F F] and confir m that the lens barrel is retr acted. • Close the fl ash. • We rec ommend using a Pana sonic ca rd. Slide t he releas e lever in the dire ction of the arrow and open the card/battery door .

Preparation - 22 - About the Built-in Memory /the Card • Y ou can copy the reco r ded pict ures to a card. (P17 0) • Memory size: Approx. 40 MB • Recordabl e motion pict u r es: QVGA (32 0 k 240 pi xels) only • The built- in memory can be us ed as a tempor ary stor age devi ce when the card bein g used becomes f ull.

Basic - 44 - [REC] Mode: ñ T aking pictures using the automatic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this mode f or beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .

Basic - 52 - In Program AE Mode, you can change the preset aperture value and shutter s peed without changing the exposure. This is called pr ogram shift. Y ou can make the background mo re blurred by decreas ing the aperture value or record a m oving subject more dynamically by slowing the shutter speed when taking a picture in Program AE Mode.

Advanced ( Recording pictur es) - 78 - [REC] mode: Setting the Lig ht Sensitivity This allows the sens itivity to light (ISO sens itivity) to be set. Sett ing to a higher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dark plac es without the resulting pictures coming out dark.
