15 Functions When there is wide variati on between the illumin ation of light and dark areas of the location being monitored, the camera adjusts the lens ir is in accordance with the brig ht areas. This causes loss of detail in dark area s. Con versely , adjusting lens br ightness for the dark areas causes brighter areas to become washed out.
Functions (continued) 16 Jagged edges that are unique to interlaced ca meras and that occur in areas with movement are corrected by the motion adaptiv e inter l ace/progressive con version function and conv er ted to progressive images. This allows both still and moving objects to be captured as well-defined images.
17 P ower can be supplied to the camera and image s transmitted on a single LAN cable by connecting to P oE-compati ble network de vices. Special installation of a power supply f or the camera and video cables is not required. MPEG-4 and JPEG can be output at the same time.
18 Installation and Connections Installation Precautions The following describes how to install the camera. Bef ore you install and connect th e camera, check and prepare the required peripheral de vices and cables . Bef ore you connect the camera, tur n off all devices to be connected, such as this camera and PC.
19 About Static Electricity Remov a l Before installing the camera, touch a metal case or other metallic par ts with your hand to remov e static electr icity from your body . Do not install in areas subjected to high amounts of humidi ty or dust. Doing so may cause inter nal components to damage more easily or malfunction.
20 Before Starting Installation The follo wing procedure s are f or installing th e camera on walls and ceilings. Impor tant • The type of screws f or the installation depend on the mater ial at the location in which yo u will install th e brac ket (inclu ded).
21 Installing the Camera 1 Install the mo unting brack et. Fix the mounting brack et directly into the ceiling or wall or into the imbedded box using the four scre ws prepared in advance.
Installing the Camera (continued) 22 3 Unscrew the tr anspor tation screw . 4 Connect the power cab le and the video output cable. See "W aterproofing Cab le Joints" on page 26.
23 5 Install the camera on the mounti ng brack et. Fix the camera onto the mounting brack et usin g the four scre ws (provided). During install ation, align the protrud- ing par t on the mounti ng brack et an d the indented par t on the camera to fix the position of the camera.

27 Impor tant • When wiring the cable by e xp osed wiring, be sure to use a slee ve to pr ev ent the cable from being exposed to the direct sunlight. • Install the camera so that the cable is at the bottom side of the camera. Dra w out th e cable to the side of the mounti ng fixture, set it f acing down, and then wire it f acing up .
28 Adjusting the Camera 1 Adjust the camera angle while monitor ing the image on the adjustment monitor . Connect the adjustment monitor (small LCD monito r , etc.) to the monitor output ter m inal, and adjust the camera angle. Deter mine and set the camera angle while repeating the fine-adjustments in steps (1), (2) and (3) belo w .
29 2 Adjust the f ocus. Adjust the focus at the same time as pan and tilt ad justment. Repeat steps (1) and (2) to adjust the fo c u s. (1) Lo osen the zoom lock le ver , move the lens to the appropria te view angle between TELE and WIDE, and tighten the lev er.

33 Heater Unit When the heater unit (sold separately) is used, the camera can be used outdoors in low- temperature environments do wn to -30ºC (-22ºF). The heater automatically tur ns on when the temperature inside the camera f alls below about 10ºC (50ºF), and tur ns off when the temperature inside rises.
34 Connection Examples Direct connection to a PC When connecting the camera directly to a PC, use the Ether net cable (Category 5, cross cable). Network connection via a P oE-compatible hub When connecting the camera to a network via a P oE-compa tible hub , use the Ether net cable (Categor y 5, straight cable).
