Thi s document serves as a guide fo r installing the DX81 00-EXP Expansion Un it. If you ordere d the DX8124 or DX8132 mod el DVR, the opt ional Capture Card and DX81 00 I/O card ar e already inst alled.

The Expansion Un it is ready to use after y ou complete the i nstallation steps in this ma nual. The steps to install the Expansio n Unit are summarized as follows: 1.
C2636M (11/06) 7 6. Ensure tha t the DX8100 Series DVR and all of it s components are protec ted against e lectrostat ic dischar ge (ESD). Before handlin g any elec tronic compon ents, you sh ould take steps to ground yourself properly so that any built-up static electri c charges are dissip ated away from the un it.

For info rmation about mou nting the D X8100 in a ra ck, refer to the DX8100 Instal lation Manual. OPEN THE DX8100 CHASSIS If the DX8100 is mount ed in a rack, it must be remo ved.

10 C2636M (11/06) Install the DX8100 I/O Card The DX8100 I/O card comes in a separate bo x that contai ns the DX8100 I/O card and two cables: a 5-pin alarm a nd relay cable and a 32-pin video in put ribbon cable. For i nformation a bout the oth er DX8100 Ex pansion Unit kit components, refer to Parts List on page 4.
C2636M (11/06) 11 T o install the DX8100 I/O card in slot 7: 1. Remove the Rear Cross Brace. Refer to item 14 in Figure 7 on page 9. 2. Do the following: a. Remove the slot cov er for slot 7 and retain the screw . b. Insert the DX8100 I/ O card into the slot 7 o pening and secure th e I/O card bracket with the screw .
12 C2636M (11/06) Installing the Capture Card This section describes how to install the DX8100 Ca pture Card. The Cap ture Card installat ion is performed after yo u have installed th e DX8100 I/O ca rd. The DX8100 Capture Card comes in a sep arate box that contains th e Capture Card and one 14-pin inte rconnect cabl e.
C2636M (11/06) 13 T o install t he optional Cap ture Card: 1. On the main Capt ure Card, remov e the 7-wire T V/Audio cable an d lay the ca ble over the D X8100 I/O card. Refer to callout 2c in Figure 11 for the location of the TV/Aud io cable. 2. Do the following: a.
14 C2636M (11/06) Reassemble the Unit T o reassemble the DX81 00: 1. Replace the chassis cover using the same screws you remove d from the side and rea r of the unit. Re fer to Figure 12. Figure 12. C2636M (11/06) 15 Connecting the Expansion Unit to the DX8100 This sections describes how to connect the Expansion Unit to the DX8100. The Expansion Unit can be ra ck mounted, positioned to the side, or se t on top of the DX8100. Fig ure 14 shows how to assemble t he rack mount kit.

Do one of t he following: • Rack mounting: Attach the rack mount kit and install the Exp ansion Unit in the ra ck enclosure dire ctly above the DX8100. • Desktop mounting: Set the Expansio n to the side or on top o f the DX8100.
