C2953M-A (5/09) 13 SERVICE CABLE The camera includes a service co nnector that outputs camer a video. Use it at the installation site to set up the field of view and to focus the camera. Pelco offers an optional service cable (IX-SC) that p lugs directly into the se rvice connec tor .
14 C2953M-A (5/09) WIRING CAT5 CABLE Connect a Cat5 cable t o the RJ-45 network connector . The 8-pin co nnector includes vid eo and PoE f or the came ra. PoE (IEE E 802.3 af) injects power over th e same cabling th at carries th e network data , eliminating t he need for a se parate power su pply .
C2953M-A (5/09) 15 Connecting a Rel ay Device The camera ha s an output for a ctivating an exte rnal device. It supports both momentary a nd continuous relay operation. Y ou can operate t he relay in teractively during an ac tive connect ion, or it c an operate au tomatically to coincide wit h certain e vents.

When set to Auto, the camera continu a lly delivers the best possible im age by automatically adjusting the digit al processing settings based on the scene.
30 C2953M-A (5/09) EXPOSURE Exposure is the amount of light dete cted by the camera senso r . A scene wit h correct exposure set tings has a dequate de tail and c ontrast betwe en white and da rk values. An image with too li ttle or to o much exposur e eliminates detail in th e scene.
C2953M-A (5/09) 31 Auto Exposure Auto exposure a utomatically sets the a mount of light detecte d by the camera sensor b ased on setting s for light co ntrol, exposu r e compensation, and the day and nigh t exposure times. Light Control: Sets the mechan ism that controls the exp osure time of the ca mera.
32 C2953M-A (5/09) Manual Expo sure Manual ex posure sets the amount of light det ected by th e camera s ensor based on a user-defined settin g. Manual exposure is re co mmended only for ind oor applica tions that have a single unchanging primary light source.

C2953M-A (5/09) 35 Manual Focus Manual focus turns off the auto focus mechanism and locks the camera at a user-specified po sition. The camera will not focus if changes in th e scene occur . This setting is recommended f or indoor app lications th at have a sing le unchangin g primary ligh t source or f or vide o analy tic application s.

Th is is accomplished, in part, when the device map s the 10-bit i nput sensor data (0 to 1023 bits) into 8- bit output RGB values (0 to 25 5 bits).

C2953M-A (5/09) 41 Compression Stand ards JPEG: A commonly us ed compressio n scheme, al so known as MJPEG. JPEG has the leas t impact on the camera's pr ocessor but r equires the most bandwid th. H264: A ne w version of MP EG-4 compres sion used in high-definition video players such as Blu- ray ™ and HD-DVD.

USERS User accounts can be created an d added to gr oups to limit the pe rmission s given to individua ls logged on to the ca mera.
