42 Getting Started 2 Attach ing th e Strap 1 Pass the end of the strap through the protec tive cover and triangula r ring. 2 Secure the end of the strap on t he inside of the clasp. 3 Attach the other end of the str ap in the same manner as describe d above.
43 Getting Started 2 Using the Battery Insert the b attery into the cam era. Use only a D-LI90 battery. When usi ng the battery for the firs t time, or when th e battery has not been used in a long tim e, or when [Battery dep leted] appears, rec harge the battery.
44 Getting Started 2 When using the battery for t he firs t time, charge the bat tery and insert i t into the camera. 1 Open the battery cover. Lift the battery cover unlock knob, turn towards OPEN ( 1 ) to unlock, and then pull the cover open ( 2 ).
45 Getting Started 2 2 Face the 2 mark on the bat tery towards the outside of the camera, push t he battery lock lever in t he direction of the arrow ( 3 ) and insert t he battery. Insert until the battery locks. To remove the battery, push the battery lock lever in the directi on of the arrow ( 3 ) with your hand.

72 Basic Oper ations 3 Usin g the Built- in Flash Use the fol lowing pr ocedures to take pic tures in lo w light or backlit conditi ons or when y ou want to manually use the b uilt-in fla sh. The bui lt-in flash i s optimum at a bout 0.7 m to 5 m from the subje ct.
