Getting started Handset main menu To enter the main menu: 1. Press MENU/ SEL when the handset is not in use. 2. Press CID or DIR to select a handset feature menu, then press MENU/ SEL to enter that menu. To return to the idle mode, press OFF/ CLEAR . DIRECTORY DIRECT ORY allows you to stor e and search for names and numbers (page 21).
5 T elephone base & char ger installation The telephone base can be placed on a flat surf ace or vertically mount ed on the wall (page 7). For optimum r ange and better r eception, place the telephone base in a centr al and open location.
6 T e l ep ho ne b as e & c h a r g e r i n s t a l l a t i o n If you subscribe to high-speed Internet servic e (Digital Subscriber Line - DSL) through your t elephone lines, you must install a DSL filt er between the telephone base and the tel ephone wall jack.
7 Install ation options The telephone base is designed for both deskt op installation and wall mount installation. If wall mounting is desir ed, a telephone outlet wall mounting plate with mounting studs is r equired.

9 Bat t ery installation & char ging Install the batt ery as shown below. Aft er installing the battery , you can make and receiv e short calls, but replace the handset in the tel ephone base or charger when not in use. For optimal performanc e, charge the handset batt ery for at least 16 hours bef ore use.

T o start the paging tone: • Press HANDSET L OCA TOR at the t elephone base. This starts the paging tone at the handsets for 60 seconds t o help you locate the handsets.

21 Directory REMOVE MENU / SEL TRANSFER Dir ectory Memory capacity The handset directory can st ore up to 30 entries (including nine speed dial entries). Each entry can contain a number up to 24 digit s, and a name up to 14 charact ers. A convenient sear ch feature can help you find and dial numbers quickly (page 25).
22 Directory Speed dial You can enter nine speed dial numbers of up to 30 digits. Each number is stored in a speed dial location (1-9). The nine speed dial numbers on the handset will be automatically added to the handset directory. You can also make existing directory entries into speed dial entries (page 26).

30 Caller ID R eview the call hist ory The call history displays the caller ID in reverse chronological order, with the latest one (the one with the highest number) first. When the telephone is not in use, press CID to display information about the most recent caller.

Press CID in idle mode. CID EMPTY will be displayed if there are no call history entries in that handset.
33 Answering system RECORD ANNC. A n s w e r i n g s y s t em Message capacity The answering system can r ecord up t o 95 messages depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minutes. The ma ximum recor d time can be more than 11 minutes.
34 Day & time announcement s Check day & time You can press CLOCK at any time to hear the current day and time without changing it. Set day & time Before playing each message, the answering system announces the date and time when the message was received.
35 Answering system RECORD ANNC. Out going announcements The outgoing announcement is the message callers hear when calls are answered by the answering system. The telephone is factory set with an announcement. If the telephone is set up to record messages, it answers calls with “ Hello.
