NEVE R invi te car theft! An unloc ked car with t he key i n the ignition switch invite s car t heft. A steering wh eel lo ck and a buzz er alarm are standard equipm ent in your P orsche. The buzzer will sound if y ou open the driver's doo r while the key is sti ll in the ignition lock.
Doors T o lock, unlo ck and o pen door s f rom the outsid e All doors ca n be lock ed with the i gnition key . The passen g er door can be locked wi thout a key by first d epres sing the locking k nob a nd then closing the door. The dri ver's door can only be lock ed from the outside with the key.
Fron t seats The correct s ea ting po si tion is all- import an t for safe and f atigue-fre e driving. In or de r to satisfy indi v idual requirem ents, the seat ha s infinitely v ariable adjustme nt. The rocker switches for the height adjustment are locat ed at the out board side of the seat .
Em ergency Ad justment In th e event of a failure of the electrically operated seat adjuster , fore-and - aft adjustme nt of the seat c an be obtained using the A llan key containe d in the t ool kit. T he seat is adjusted by turning the servo mot or located at th e front on th e seat using t he Allan ke y.
Safety belt warning system An audio -visual wa rning system is interconne c ted with the driver's s afety belt. Every time the ignition i s turned on, the seat belt warning light in th e left instrument cluster comes on for about 6 second s to remind dr iver and pa ssenger to buc k le up.
Air Bag System The "A i r Bag" in combination wit h the safety belt ma kes up a pa ssive safety sy stem w hich offers the driver and f r ont seat pa ss enger t he greatest k nown protection from injuries in case of a ccident.
Rear View Mirrors Do not put decal s or other signs o n the windows that may i nterf ere with t he driver's vision. Adjust t he outside and inside mir rors before driving. It is import ant for safe dri v ing that you have good vis ion to the rear.
Igni tion/Starter Sw itch wi th Steering Lock The steerin g is equipped with an anti-theft ignition lo ck. Switch positio ns 0 T he steering is blocked by the st e ering lock: all circuits wire d through the igniti on are switched off. The ignit ion key can only be withdrawn in the "0" position.
The brake warning l ight on the dashboar d will go out after the engine i s started and th e parking bra ke is fully released. WARNING Release th e parkin g brake fully. A par tially engaged b rake will overh eat the rear brakes, re duce their effectiv eness and cause excessi v e wear.
ABS B rake Syst em (Ant ilock brake system ) The AB S system repre sents a major contribut ion to the enhancement of acti ve safety in y our vehicle. This system p revents the wheels fr om locking in a pani c stop on almost all ro ad surface s .
Lane chang er To indicate your intentio n when changing lanes on the highway, slightly pu sh the turn signal switch lever up or down to t h e point o f resistance.
944 / 944 S 944 Turbo Headlight W asher To operate t he headlight washer, push the washer le ver in the direction of the dash - board (switch positio n 7). The system only operates when the headlights are switched on. A separate p ump supplies high -pressure water to the spray nozz les lo cated in front of the headlight s on the bumper.
944 / 944 S 944 Turbo T he trip odomet er in the l ower part of the speedometer can be turned back t o zero by pressing the reset-bu tton, located in the left section of th e center da s hboard v ent.
Left In st rument C luster The left i nstrument clu s ter includes t h e coolant te mperature and fuel gauge s as well as warning light s for coo lant t e mperat ure, fuel reserve, brake- lining wear, s afety bel t, parking light and parking brake. The rate of o i l consump ti on depend s on the quality and v iscosity of oil, the speed at which the engine i s operated, the clima te, road conditions as well as the amount of dilut ion and oxidat ion of the lubricant.
Changing Engine Oil and Fi lter High quality -multi- grade oil s are suitable for all year round dr iving. S easonal oil changes are therefore no t neces sary. Only i f multi-grade oils are n ot readily a v ailable, a single- grade oil of the corre c t viscosity ca n be used.
Pow e r Assisted S t eering The hydrauli c assistance system allows effortless s teering under all dri v ing condition s . Slight hissing or squea k ing sound s during sharp turns (tu rning steering whe el from loc k to lock) a re normal a nd do not indicate a defective stee ring mechanism.
When the en gine is cold, the coolant le v el should rea c h the minimum mark on the expansion ta nk. When the engine i s warm, the coolant le v el will be a bove the mi nimum mark. Since the closed cooli ng system loses alm ost no coolant , topping up i s norm ally not required.
