1 Getting Star ted Getting Star ted It is very important that you read this section because your tri-mode phone is uni que – it c ombines sa tell ite technolo gy and ce llula r techno logy in one phone. For more detailed inf ormation on usage, refer to the other sections in this g uide.
2 Preparing f or satellite calls ■ If the securit y module is not properly install ed, you can only make cal ls to emergency n umbers and you can not receive calls. Your sat ellite servic e pro vider ins talls a nd maint ains th e securit y modu le (see Security modul e, page 8, f or more i nformatio n).
3 Gett ing S tarted ■ Position yourself outdoors so that your view of the sky is clear to prevent dropped calls. For best performance, move away from tall obstacles such as bu ildings or trees. I f you have a clear view of the sky, the s atellites wil l have a clear view of you and the p hone.

10 Pow e r s a v e m o d e Power save mode maximizes the battery lif e. Your phone switches to power save mode aft er repeated attem pts to find service. The f ollowing messag e displays when service i s not found and your phone is in pow er save mode: To return to standby mode, press any key.

12 Caller ID Caller ID displays a n incoming call’s phone number on the screen, if availa ble. If the ph one number of the call er matches one stored in your phone book, the na me also displays with the n umber. For more informa tion on caller ID, contact y our satellite or cellular service provider.

16 Entering p auses When using automated phone s e rvices, such as voice mail or online banking , you c a n use pauses when entering a series of numbers. You can also en ter pauses ma nually, or y ou can save p auses in phone b ook entries. Each pause counts as one character.

34 Resetting pref erences You can reset all preferences to the original settings (defa ults) that were previousl y set by your satellite or c ellular servi ce provider. These preferences include those describe d in Preferences Menu, page 35, wit h these exceptions: ■ The banner is not reset.
