4 Imp or ta nt : • Cordless ph ones such as this one require AC power to operate. W hen the power is of f , you cannot make or receive calls using your ET-929. T o be safe, you should also have a phone that does not need A C power to operate (not a cordless phone), so you can st ill make and receive calls if there is an AC power failure.

6 IN STALLATI ON MOUNTING THE PHONE You can place th e phone on a desk or table, m ount it on a s tandard wall pl at e, or moun t it directly on a wal l.
7 4. Insert the supplied AC a dapter ’s barrel plug into the DC IN 9V ja ck on the back of the base. 5. Route the adapter ’s cord through the strain relief s lot on t he bracket. 6. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outle t . 7. Lift the base ’ s antenna to a vertical positio n.
8 5. Plug the modular cord into the wall plate jack, then align the brack et’ s keyhole slots with the wall plate studs and slid e the base do wnward to secure i t. 6. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. 7. Press and lift out the handset hold- er , rotate i t 180 × , then snap i t back into p lace.
9 4. Insert the supplied AC a dapter ’s barrel plug into the DC IN 9V ja ck on the back of the base. 5. Route the modul ar and ad apter cords through t he grooves on the bottom of the bracket. 6. Align t he keyhole slo ts with the mount ing screws and slide the ba s e downward to secure it .
10 1. Press down an d slide off the battery pack compartme nt cover as shown. 2. Unfasten the retainer strap and lift the battery pack out o f the comp art- me nt. 3. Plug the battery pack’s connector in- to th e so ck et in the com pa rtm en t (the connector fits only one way), then replace the battery pack and fasten th e retainer strap .
11 • If the battery pack be comes weak during a c all, the handset be eps ev- ery 30 s e c on ds, and RECH ARGE NOW and flash on t he display . If this happens, you must recharge the battery pack before y ou can make anothe r call.
12 SETTI NG TH E RINGER ’ S T ONE AND V OLUME Follow these steps t o s e t the handset ringer’s t o ne and volum e. 1. Lift the hands et . I f appears, press TA L K to t ur n i t off. 2. Press VOLUME . The phone dis- plays and sounds the current ringer ton e a nd v ol ume .
13 STORIN G Y OUR A REA CODE To q uickly dial a number f rom a Caller ID record (see “Dialing from a Caller ID Record” on Page 21) or to correctly store a number from a record into a mem ory dialing location (see “S toring a Caller ID Record to Mem ory ” on Page 22), you must store your l ocal area code in the ET -929’s memory .
14 OPE R AT ION MAKING CA LLS 1. Lift the handset and press TA L K so appears. The IN USE indicat or on the base lights an d t h e currently selected channel num ber appe ars. 2. Dial the num ber . Y ou see the num - ber as you di al, t he n (af ter 5 sec - onds) the elapsed time for t his call.
15 If you hear other conversations or ex- cessive noise during a call, press CHAN- NEL to select a di f ferent c hannel. The new c hannel number briefly appe ars. Note : If the handset is too far from the base , the channel might not chan ge. Move clos er to the base and try again.
16 3. When th e service answe r s, press TON E ( ). Any additio nal numbers you dial are sent as tone signa ls. 4. Af ter you comple te t he call , re turn the handset to t h e base or press TA L K . The phone auto matically re- sets to the p ulse mod e.
17 4. Enter the nu mber and any tone and paus e entries (see “Using T one Ser- vices on a P ulse Li ne” on P age 15 and “Entering a P ause” on Page 18). Note: Each tone or pa use entry us- es one digit of memory . 5. Press MEM. NAME? appears. If you do not want to put i n a nam e, skip t o Step 7 .
18 Editing or Dele ting a Mem ory Number 1. Lift the hands et . I f appears, press TA L K to t ur n i t off. 2. Press FUNCTI O N . D IAL ME MORY ? and MEM- 1 EDIT -0 app ear . 3. Press 0 to select EDIT . LOCA - TION ? appears. 4. Enter the mem ory loc at ion num ber (01-20) for the num ber you want to edit or delete.
19 Chain-Dialing Service Numbers W hen calling spe cial service s (such as alterna t e long di stance or bank-by- phone), dial the service’s main n umber first. Then, at the appropriate pl ace in the call, press MEM and enter th e num- ber for the location whe r e the ad ditional information is stored.
20 CALLER ID OPER A TION If you s ubscr ibe to C aller ID service, the phone c ompany sends information about the call, as well as the time and date, between the f irst and second rings of every cal l you receive. The ET-929 displays th is information when it receive s a ca ll , and i t stores up to 30 Caller ID records for later review.
21 Caller ID Messag es DIALING FROM A CALLER ID RECOR D To dial a l ocal number stored in a Caller ID record, recall the record, then press TA L K . To dia l a lon g distance number, recall the record and p ress 1 ( 1 a ppears before the displayed nu mber), then press TA L K .
22 STORING A CALLER ID RECORD TO MEMORY To store the nam e and num ber in a Call- er ID record into the phone’s m emory, recall t ha t record, then press MEM . LO - CATI ON ? appea rs. Enter a two-digit memory loca t ion num ber (01–20), then press MEM again.
23 T ROUBLESHOOTI NG W e do not expect you to have any problems with your ET-929, but if you do, these sugg estions might help. Pro blem Su gg estion The phone does not work or works poorly . Be sure the base’s pho ne line c ord and AC adapt er are correctly and securely connected.
24 If you still have problems, disco nnect the ET-929. If other phones on t he same line work properly, the fault is in this phone or its inst a llation. If you cannot find the prob- lem, take the ET-929 t o your local RadioShack store for a ssistance.

26 REPLACING THE BATTERY PACK If you f oll ow t h e instructions in “ Conn ect- ing and Charging the Battery Pack ” on Page 9, the battery pack s hould last about one year. I f th e battery pack does not hold a ch arge for more than 2 hours after an overnight c harge, replace it with a new 3.
