5 INST ALLA TION CHOOSING A LOCA TION Sele ct a location that is near both a mo d- ular t elephone jack a nd an A C outlet. Your TAD-102 7 connects directly to a modul ar telepho ne line jack. I f the tele- phone l ine jack is not a modular jac k, you must update the wiring.
6 CONNECTING T O T HE TELEPHO NE LINE To connect the TAD-1027 to the phone line, plug one end of the suppl ied m odu- lar te l ephone cord into the TO L IN E ja ck . Then plug the other end into a modular phone ja ck. You can connect a telephone to the TO TEL jack using a second m odular t ele- phone cord (not supplied).
7 W hen you first connect power, the PLAY / SKIP ind icato r flashes rapidly (until you record the outg oing message), the AN - SWER in dicator flashes (until you install a bac kup battery), an d the T AD-1027 a u- tomatica lly runs a self-test. You cannot operate the TAD during this test.
8 PREP ARA TION SETTI NG THE DA Y AND TI ME Follow these step s to set the current day and time so the TAD-102 7 records the correct day a nd time of the c all with each phone m essage. Note: If you do not com plete each step within 8 seconds, the TA D-1027 sounds a three-tone beep and stops s etting the day and time.
9 7. W hen you finish, press ANSWER/ STOP/DELETE to confirm t he set- tings. The T AD-1027 beeps and announc es the day and time. To chec k the current day/time, us e a straightened pape r clip to p ress CLOCK .
10 BASIC O PERA TION SETTI NG THE T AD-1027 T O ANSWER CAL LS To s e t the TAD-1027 to answer cal l s, press ANSWER/STOP/DELET E . • If an outgoing mess age is recorded, the T AD-1027 announc es, “Answer on,” and the ANSW ER indicat or ligh ts.
11 PLA YING MESS AGES If t here are new m essages, the PLA Y/ SKIP ind icator flashes until all the new mess ages hav e been played. To pla y all the mes sages, press PLA Y/ SKIP . The TAD-1027 announce s t he numbe r of messages or if there are no mess ages stored, t he TAD an nounces, “No message.
12 Notes: • If you have played onl y a portion of a messa ge, the T A D-1027 m igh t not delete it. • Individual m essages c an only be deleted by remote operation. RECORDING A MEMO A m emo is a messag e you can record at the TAD-102 7 without ha ving to call in on a phone.

Notes: • When t he memory is f ull, the T AD- 1027 ans wers the call after two rings and announc es, “Memory is full.
15 Remote Command Code s After you press 4 ( to play all messa ges): Pres s: T o: 0 Stop messa ge playback or recording. 1 Play the outgoing mes - sage. 2 Record a new ou tgoing message. When the T AD- 1027 announc es “Record announc ement,” be gin speaking.
