Your Phone 12 Key (s) Desc ri pti on In Menu mode, scroll through the menu options and Phonebook. In Idle mode, the Up key quickly enters the Sound Settings menu and the Down key enters the Camera menu. In Menu mode, the l eft key returns to the previous menu level and the right key selects the current menu.
Your Phone 13 Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and off when held down. In Menu mode, cancels your input and returns to Idle mode. Deletes char acters from the display . In Menu mode, returns to the previous menu level. In Idle mode, quickly accesses your voic e mail when held down .
Your Phone 14 Display Display Layout The display has three areas: Area Description First line Displays various ico ns. See page 15. Middle lines Display messages, instructions and any information that you enter , such as the number you are dialling. Last line Shows the functions currently assigned to the two soft k e ys.
Your Phone 15 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of your service area. When it displays, you cannot mak e or receive a call.
Your Phone 16 Backlight A backlight illuminates the display and the k eypad. When you press any key or slide the folder up, the backlight turns on. It turns off when no k eys are pressed within a giv en period of time, depending on your setting i n the Back Light menu ( Menu 7.
Your Phone 17 Service Light The servic e light is b elow the display . It flashes when services are available on th e phone. T o activ ate or deactivate the service lig ht, set the Service Light menu ( Menu 7.
18 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in S I M card loaded with y our subscription details, such as your PIN , any optional services av ailable and so on.
Getting Started 19 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM ca rd socket, as shown, so that it locks the card into position. Make sure the gold contacts of the card face into the phone. Note : When you need to remov e the SIM card, slide it, as sh own, and take it out of the socket.
Getting Started 20 5. Slide the battery toward s the top of the phone until it clicks into place. Make sure that the battery is properly inst alled before switching the power on. Charging the Battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery .
Getting Started 21 2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC w all outlet. 3. When charging is finished, unplug the adapter from the power outlet and disconnect it from the phone by pressing the grey tab s on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.
Getting Started 22 Switching the Phone On or Off 1. Press and hold the key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks you to enter the phone password, enter the password and press the OK soft key . The phone password is preset to “00000000” at the fac tory .
Getting Started 23 Using the Keypad Lock Feature Y ou can slide the folder up to use the number keypad and back down to m ake the phone compact. When yo u slide the folder down back in place, the display turns off and the phone autom atically locks the keypad to keep it from be ing pre ssed accidentally .
24 Call Functions Making a Call When the idle scre en displays, enter the area code and phone number , and press the ke y . Note : When you activ at e the Auto Redial optio n in the Extra S ettings menu ( Menu 7.7 ), the phone au tomatically red i als up to ten times when the person do es not answer the c all or i s already on the phone.
Call Functions 25 Ending a Call When you want to finish your call, briefly press the key . Redialling t he Last Number The phone stores the numbers you di al, receive or miss if the caller is iden tified. See “Call R ecords” on page 105 fo r further details.
Call Functions 26 Making a Call from Phoneboo k Y ou can store the phone numbers that you use regularly in the SIM card or the phone’ s memory , which are collectively ca lled Ph onebook. Simply select a name to recall th e associated number . For further details about the Phonebook features, see page 33.
Call Functions 27 Answering a Ca ll When somebo dy calls you, the phone rings and displays the incom ing call animation . When the caller can be identified, the call er’s phone number , or name if stored in your Phonebook, displays . 1. Press the key or the Accept soft key to answer th e incomi ng call.
Call Functions 28 Viewing Missed Calls When you are unable to answ er a call for any reason, you can find out who called you so that y ou can cal l the per son back . The number of calls you missed displa ys on the idle screen immediately aft e r a call is missed.

31 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise it. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed using the two soft keys marked and . Each menu and sub- menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

33 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and the ir corresponding names in your SIM card and phone’ s memories. They are physic ally separate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook.

Caller Group : allows you to organise your Phonebook en tries in caller groups so that th e phone alerts you in a specific way when a person from one of your groups ca ll s you.
Phonebook 38 Searching for and Dialling a Number in Phonebook After storing numbers in Phonebook, you can search for them in two ways; by nam e and by caller group. Searching for a Number by Name 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Name soft key .

45 Entering Text When using your phone, you w i ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, creating your p ersonal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering Text 46 Changing the Text Input Mode When you are in a field that allows characters to be entered, you will notice the tex t input mode indicator on the display . Example : Writing a text message Note : Additional text input modes may be a vailable depending upon your country .
Entering Text 47 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text inp ut mode that allows yo u to key in an y character using single keystrok es. This text input mode is based on a built -in dictiona ry . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the 2 to 9 keys.
Entering Text 48 T o add a new word into the T9 dictionary: 1. After pressing the k eys corresponding to the word you want to add, press the 0 or Do wn k ey to display the alternative words. 2. When you press the 0 or Down key on the last alternative word, the displa y shows Add on the bottom line.
Entering Text 49 Using Alphabet Mode Use the 1 to 0 keys to enter yo ur text. 1. Press the keys labe lled with the letter you w ant: - Once for t he first le tter - T wice for the second letter - And so on 2. Select t he other letters i n the same way .

51 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of co ntrol functions that you can use during a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current cal l on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you hav e a call in progress if your network sup ports this service.
Options During a Call 52 When you have an activ e call and a call on hold, you may switch between the two calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the other on hold.
Options During a Call 53 Switching the Mic rophone Off (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microph one off so that the other person on t he phone cannot hear you. Example : Y ou wish to say something to another person in the room but do not want the person on the phone to hear you.
Options During a Call 54 Muting or Sending Key Tones These options allow you to turn the k ey tones off or on. If the Mute Keys option is selected, your phone does not transmit the key tones, which allows you to press keys without hearing annoying ke y tones during a call.
Options During a Call 55 Searching for a Number in Phonebook Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook during a call. 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Down key to highlight the Phonebook option. 3. Press the OK soft k ey . The Phonebo ok entries are listed.
Options During a Call 56 Call Waiting Y ou can answer an incoming cal l while you have a call in progress, if your network sup ports this service and you hav e set the Call Waiting menu ( Menu 9.3 ) to Activate ; see page 154. Y ou are notified of an in coming call by a call wait ing tone.

59 Using the Menus The phone offers a rang e of functions that allow you to tailor it to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scrolling using the navigation ke ys or by using the shortcuts.
Using the Menus 60 Using Shortcuts The menu items, such as menu, sub-menus and options, are numbered and c an be accessed quickly by using their shortcut numbers. 67 Text Messages Short Message Service (SMS) a llows you to sen d and receive short text me ssages to and from other GSM mobile phones. In addition, your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS), which enables you to include simple pictures, melodies, and animated images in your messages.

79 Multimedia Messages Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging service very similar to Short Message Service (SMS). It provides automa tic and immediate delivery of personal multimedia messag e s from phone to phone or from p hone to e-mail.

Multimedia M essages 90 Setup (Menu 2.8) Y ou can change the default settings for sending or receiving m ultime dia messa ges. The following options are availab le: Delivery Report : when this option is en abled, the network informs you whether or not your message has been delivered.
Multimed ia Messages 91 Report Allowed : when this option is en abled, the sender of an incoming message receiv es a delivery report from the netw ork. Page Duration : you can set how long one page of the received message displays on the message presentation screen.
Multimedia M essages 92 User Name : enter the user ID required to connect to the MMS se rver . Password : enter the password requ ired to connect to the MMS se rver . APN : enter the acce ss point name use d for the address of the MMS serv er . For further details, contact y our service provider .
93 E-Mail Y ou can send or receive e-mail messages directly using your phone. Using the E-mail feature, you can receive or send sounds and pictures, as well as Phonebook entries or calendar memos. T o use this feature, you need to subscribe to an e- mail message serv ice and set up your e-m ail account.
E-Mail 94 • : The message has been deleted from both the phone and e-mail server . This icon disappears wh en you disconn ect the phone from the serv er .
E-Mail 95 After opening an e-mail, you can use the following options by pressing the Options soft key: Delete : deletes the e-mail. Y ou can select to either delete it from your phone or from both the pho ne and e-mail server . Reply : allows you to send a reply to the sender .

E-Mail 97 Edit E-Mail : allows you to change the message subject or contents. Add Attachment s : enables you to attach ano ther item to the message. Draft (Menu 3.3) In this menu, you can retrieve the messages you saved. When you select this menu, the list of the e-mail messages you sa ved are displayed.
E-Mail 98 Write New (Menu 3.4) T o write and send an e-mail message: 1. Enter the subject of your e-mail and pr ess the OK soft key . For further d e tails about entering char acters, see page 45. 2. Enter the e-mail tex t and press the Options soft key .
E-Mail 99 • Properties : shows the e-ma il subject, the list of the re cipi ents you added, if any , and message text. 4. When you are finished creating the e-mail , choose Send from the o ptions and press the Select soft key . 5. Select To , Cc , or Bcc to enter a destination address and press the Select soft key .
E-Mail 100 Templates (Menu 3.5) This menu stores the e-mail messages you sav ed as templates so that you can use them to make new messages. When you select this menu, the list of the e-mail templates you sav ed displays. The icons on the left tell you the messages’ status: • : Saved e-mail.

E-Mail 102 Setup (Menu 3.8) Y ou can change the default setting options for using the E-mail feature. The following options are availab le: Account : you can configure up to five e-mai l accounts using different service providers. T he last account you accessed is automatically activ ated for sending or receiving e-mail messages.
E-Mail 103 User ID : enter your e-mail ID. Passw ord : enter your e-mail password. Outgoing Serv er : enter the IP address or domain name of the server to be used for sending messages. Y our e-mail serv ice provider can give you this informatio n. Check Interval : allows you to select how often the phone checks the serv er for incoming messages.
E-Mail 104 User Name : enter the user ID required to access the GPRS network. Password : enter the password required to access the GPRS network. APN : enter the acce ss point name use d for the address of the GPRS network gateway .
105 Call Records In this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received or dialled. • length of your calls. • cost of your calls. Notes : • Y ou can access the numbers i n the three types of call records by pressing the key in Idle mo de.
Call Records 106 Received Calls (Menu 4.2) This menu lets you view the last 20 numbers of the calls you receiv ed. The number and name, if available, displa y together with the time and date w hen the call wa s receive d. By pressing the Options soft key , you can: • edit the number , if av ailable, and dial it or save it in Phonebook.
