6 GETTING ST A RTED Choosing a location for the base unit and handset cradle The base unit records and displays the indoor temperature, when selecting a location, observe the follow ing guidelines: Choose a location tha t provides easy access to a 120-volt AC power source.
7 GETTING ST A RTED Connecting the handset cradle Batteries 1. Open the battery compar tment located at the back of the handset unit. 2. Plug the battery connector into the socket. 3. Replace the battery co mpartment by sliding it in the direction show n by the arrow in the diagra m to the right.
8 GETTING ST A RTED Charging the handset batteries You must charge the hand set batteries for 15 continuous hour s the first time you u se them. NOTE: W hen the icon appe ars empty and “CHARGE BATT ERY” shows on the LCD screen, or if you hear a warning bee p during a call, please: End the call as soon as po ssible.

11 INITIAL PROGR A MM ING Before using this telephone, the following initial settings must be completed: volume level, ring volu me, ring tone, auto answer, key tone, key lock, handset name, language, phone book, call log, message waiting, and dial mode.
12 INITIAL PROGR A MM ING Flash time Consult your telephone co mpany before changing the Flash time setting. Changing this setting may cause you r telephone company service such as call wa iting to not work properly. 1. Press the MENU/OK key. 2. Press or to select “D IALING” from the options.

15 BASICS Making a call 1. Press TA LK to get a dial tone then en ter the number, OR dial the number first (up to 24 digits) then pres s TALK . 2. To end the call, pres s TA LK again or place the handset on the base cradle, the handset will automatically hang up.
16 BASICS MUTE ke y “C” To have a private, off-line conversation, use the mute fea ture. The caller on the other end of the line cannot hear you, but you will be able to hear the m. To mute the microphone: 1. While a call is in progress, press C on the handset “MIC M UTE” will appear on the handset display.
17 CALLER ID FE A TU RES This phone receives and di splays incoming call infor mation transmitted by your local phone company, prov ided you subscribe to Voi ce Mail, Caller ID, and/or Call W aiting services. This infor mation can include the phone nu mber and/or the name, date and time.
18 CALLER ID FE A TU RES 1. Press MENU/OK to enter the menu. 2. Press MENU/OK to select “CALL LOG”. 3. Press to scroll through the Caller ID li st from the most recent to the oldest. 4. Press to scroll through the Cal ler ID list from the oldest to the most recent.

At the “STORE NUMBER” di splay, enter number using the keypad, including any prefixes or country codes. If you make a mistake, pre ss FLASH/DEL to delete a digit one at a time, then enter the correc t digits.
20 DIRECTORY Making calls from the directory 1. Press MENU/OK , Press or to select “PHONE BOOK”, then press MENU/OK . 2. Press or to select “RECALL”, the n press MENU/OK. 3. Press or or enter the first character of the na me to select the desired phonebook entry.

23 MULTI-HANDSET CONFI GURATION 3-wa y conference call If you have 2 handsets registered w ith the base unit, you can make 3-way conference calls between an ex ternal call party and tw o internal handset holders. To initiate a 3- way conference call: 1.
24 4. Then press TA LK key on the first handset, and an other handset will connect to the external line. If there i s no answer, press INT again to return to the caller. OR MULTI-HANDSET CONFI GURATION 1. During a telephone conv ersation, press the INT key to place the caller on hold.
25 Replacing the battery 1. Make sure the telephon e is turned off. 2. Slide off the battery co mpartment cover. CHANGING T HE HANDSET B A TT ERY 3. Disconnect the ba ttery plug from the jack in the compa rtment and remove the battery pack. 4. Insert the new ba ttery pack and connect the cord into the jack.
26 POWER F A ILURE When power is off, you w ill not be able to make or receive calls with the telephone. After a power outage, it may take a few seconds for the han dset to reconnect to the base unit. LCD SCREEN MESS AGES The following indicators show the status of a message or of the phone.

29 Check the power connection by switching off the pow er at the main socket, waiting a few seconds, then switching it back on. Check to make sure that the phone and base unit are w ith in transmission range. The handset may be un able to find the base unit.
30 If you just recharged the ba tteries, but keep getting a low battery warning, the batteries may need to be replaced. Rechargeable ba tteries gradually lose their ability to store a charge the older they get.
31 Caller ID error message The phone displays thi s message if it detects any thing other than valid Caller ID infor mati on during the silent period after the first ring. This message indicates either the presence of noise on the line, or that an invalid message has been sent from the telephone company.
