WiCOS – the wireless conference system 6 Stand-alone operation – wireless conferencing For stand-alone operation, you only require the WiCOS sys tem components. You can use different conf erence modes and, in addition to running discussions, you can al so conduct voting sessions.

29 Switching the components on/off Switching the components on/off T o switc h the WiCOS conference system on, proceed as follows: 1. Switch the access point on (see next chapt er). 2. Switch the conference units on (see page 31 ). The connection is autom atically esta blished.
Switching the components on/off 30 T o switch the access point off : 왘 Set the on/off switch m to position “ 0 ”. The 3 status indicators ^ go off. To disconnect the access point from the mains : 왘 Unplug the DC power supp ly from the wa ll socket.

Switching the components on/off 32 T o manually switch a conference unit off : 왘 Press the microphone key A for 3 seconds. The conference unit switches off. Al l LEDs and di splays go off. T o automatically switch all conference units off : 왘 Switch the access point off (se e page 29 ).
33 Running a conference Running a conference The character of your conference (i .e. the conditions under whi ch the participants can take th e floor, are assigned the “speaking right” or can listen to simultaneous interpretatio ns) depends on t he settings of the access point.
Running a conference 34 When the chairman assigns you the “speaking right”, your microphone switches on. The microphone LED 0 and the signal light ring 2 light up red. The loudspeaker K is mute d. Depending on the conferen ce mode and the speaker limit set, the microphone of the previous speaker will be switched off.
35 Running a conference Connecting head phones (WiC OS CV and WiC OS DV only) You can listen to the floor channel or the offered inte rpretation channels (where applies) via headphones (see next section). 왘 Connect headphones with a 3.5 mm jack plug to one of the headphone sockets J .
Running a conference 36 T o ad just the volume: 왘 Press the headphone volume UP key H or the headphone volume DOWN key I : “ + ” to increase the volume or “ – ” to reduce the volume. The channel selection display E shows the volume on the headphone output S .
37 Running a conference Assigning a participant the “speakin g right” If – in “ With Request ” or “ W i t h R e q . N o C l e a r ” mode – a participant presses the microphone key on his conference unit, he makes a request to speak. All participants who have made a requ est to speak will join a request-to- speak list.
Running a conference 38 Muting all delegate units temporarily Using the priority function , the chairman can interru pt a discussion at any time. 왘 Keep the priority key 5 pressed for as long as you want to mute the conference unit s (push-to-mute fu nction).
39 Running a conference If you are using the WiCOS CV chairman unit, you have to proceed as follows. To start a voting session: 왘 Keep the ABST AIN key C pressed until the “voting mode” is shown on the multi-func tion display 7 .
Running a conference 40 To end or cancel the voting session: 왘 Press the selection key A 8 . The voting session is stopped. The LEDs next to the keys B , C and D go off. The voti ng result T is shown on the channel selection displays E of the conference units.
41 Running a conference If you are using the WiCOS C chairman unit, the set operating mode of the conference unit and the voting result cannot be displayed. You can nevertheless conduc t voting session. 왘 Via the web server, set the func tion of the selection key A 8 and B 9 to “ Start/Stop V oting ” (see page 65 ).
Running a conference 42 왘 Press the – selection key A 8 to increase the loudspeaker volume or – selection key B 9 to reduce the loudspeaker volume . The loudspeaker volume is change d. As long as you keep the key 8 or 9 pressed, the LED next to the key lights up.
43 Running a conference 왘 Press the selection key A 8 or the sele ction key B 9 to trigger circuits via a home controller. Depending on the setting, pressing key 8 or 9 transmits a start signal or a stop signal. As long as you keep the key 8 or 9 pressed, the LED next to the key lights up.

45 Configuring the conference system Af ter the reset, the following factory defaul t settings are loaded: Calling up the web serve r of the access point I n o r d e r t o b e a b l e t o c a l l u p t h e w e b s e r v e r o f t h e a c c e s s p o i n t , y o u r e q u i r e a computer wi th network connect ion (RJ 45) and a web brow ser.
Configuring the conference syst em 46 Microsoft Windows XP operating system If you are usi ng Microsof t Windows XP , proceed as follows in order to set a static IP address (see also the in struction manual of the operating system): 왘 Click “Start” and select “Control Panel”.
47 Configuring the conference system Apple MacOS X operating system If you are using Apple MacOS X , proceed as follows in orde r to set a static IP address (see also the instructio n manual of the operating system): 왘 Click the “Apple” icon and se lect “System Preferences”.
Configuring the conference syst em 48 Accessing the access point (overview screen) 왘 Switch the access point on (see page 29 ). 왘 Start a web brow ser (e.g. Inter net Explorer or Firefox). 왘 In the address box of the browser, type the IP address of the access point: the fact ory default IP addr ess 192.

Configuring the conference syst em 50 There are two ways to int egrate the access point in to the network and to use the web server. You can • integrate the a ccess point into a network with static IP addresses or • integrate the a ccess point into a n etwork with DHCP .
51 Configuring the conference system 왘 Press the Enter key. The web server appears in the browser window. Setting the country-specific limi t values – “Country selection“ T o set the conference system to the co untry-specific limit values for radio systems: 왘 In the main navigation, click “ Setup ” > “ Country selection ”.
Configuring the conference syst em 52 왘 Click “ Save settings ”. The settings are saved. The select ed country is displayed in the “ Selected Country Region ” field. The conference system will only use frequencies and transmission powers that are approved and legal in the selected country/region.

55 Configuring the conference system 왘 Click “ Save setting s ”. The setting is saved. The conference system automatically select s the frequencies and switches to altern ate frequencies if intermodulation occurs.
Configuring the conference syst em 56 Monitoring the frequency rang es – “Quality“ The frequency range monitoring funct ion displays occupi ed and unused frequency bands. 왘 In the main navigation, click “ RF Configuration ”. The “ General RF settings ” overview screen appears.
57 Configuring the conference system Adjusting the conference settings – “ Conference Management “ Setting the maximum numb er of simultaneousl y active microphones (speaker limit) The speaker limit determines the ma ximum num ber of speakers who can take the floor simultaneously.
Configuring the conference syst em 58 왘 In the “ Maximum nu mber of acti ve microp hones ” box, select the desired option button. The number of simultaneously acti ve microphones can be between “ 1 ” and “ 8 ”. 왘 Click “ Save settings ”.
59 Configuring the conference system Setting the volume of th e conferen ce units’ built-in loudspeakers 왘 In the main navigation, click “ Conference management ”. The “ General Conference Settings ” overview screen appears. 왘 in the “ Vol u m e ” box, click the “ Up ” or the “ Down ” button.
Configuring the conference syst em 60 –“ 1 ” = low –“ 12 ” = very high The selected volume level is displayed between the two buttons. 왘 Click “ Save settings ”. The setting is saved. The loudspeaker volume is set to the selected level.
61 Configuring the conference system Setting the operating mode of the access point The access point is suitable for stand- alone operation or can be integrated into a wired SDC 8200 conference and i nterpreta tion system (slave mode operation). 왘 In the main navigation, click “ Conference management ”.
Configuring the conference syst em 62 Monitoring initialized co nference uni ts – “Unit moni toring“ 왘 In the main navigation, click “ Conference management ” > “ Unit monitoring ”. The “ Unit monitoring ” overview screen is displayed.
63 Configuring the conference system T o switch the test mode off: 왘 Click “ Te s t L E D s O F F ”. The indicators and displays of the initialized conference units go off.
Configuring the conference syst em 64 To m anually ini tialize certain confe rence units with the access point: 왘 Switch on all conference units that you want to use in your conference system (see page 31 ). 왘 In the “ Init Control ” box, select the “ Manual ” option button.
65 Configuring the conference system Setting the operating mode/functio ns of the selection keys A and B – “Chairman Config” You can assign different operati ng modes and functions to the selection keys A 8 and B 9 of the WiCOS C and WiCOS CV chairman units.

Configuring the conference syst em 68 Using default encryption 왘 In the “ default key ” box, select the “ Use default key ” option button. The setting is saved. The system encrypts all radio sign als with the default encr yption key. All comp onents of the WiCOS series can communicate w ith each other usin g this encryption key.
69 Configuring the conference system 왘 Assign these confere nce units the de sired custom key as described on page 68 . To no longer use a custom key: 왘 Initialize all required conference units with the access point (see page 63 ). 왘 In the “ default key ” box, select the “ Use default key ” option button.
Transporting the conference system 70 T ransporting the conference system One of the advantages of the WiCOS wireless c onference system is that it is easy to set up and dismantle ag ai n. This makes the conference system mobile and ensures flexibilit y of use.
71 Transporting the conference system Preparing the conference units for transport 왘 If necessary, u nplug the c harging po wer supp ly from the wall socket 왘 Unplug the con nector from the so cket for charging power supply. 왘 If necessary, disconnect any headphones connected to the conference unit.
Transporting the conference system 72 Using the transport case For transporting the conference system, we recommend WiCOS CASE, an optionally availabl e transport case on wheels. This ca se has padded compartments for an access point, 12 conference units and the microphones.
