This chipset functions as a Media and Communications Processor (MCP). Controllers for the system memory are integrated directly into AMD Opteron processors.

This allows the user to de fi ne an overheat temperature. When this temperature is exceeded or when a fan failure occurs, the Overheat/Fan Fail warning LED is triggered.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-3 Installing the Heatsinks We recommend the use of active type heatsinks (except for 1U systems). Use any onboard fan header for the CPU's heatsink fan. T o install the heatsink, please follow the installation instructions included with your heatsink package (not included).

Chapter 2: Installation 2-7 2-6 I/O Port and Control Panel Connections The I/O ports are color coded in conformance with the PC99 speci fi cation to make setting up your system easier . See Figure 2-2 below for the colors and locations of the various I/O ports.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-13 Compact Flash Card PWR Connector A Compact Flash Card Power Connector is located at JWF1. For the Compact Flash Card to work properly , you will need to enable it with the JCF1 jumper and connect a Compact Flash Card power cable to JWF1 fi rst.
H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User's Manual 2-14 VGA Enable/Disable JPG1 allows you to enable or disable the VGA port. The default position is on pins 1 and 2 to enable VGA.
Chapter 2: Installation 2-15 LAN1/2 Enable/Disable Change the setting of jumper JPL1 and JPL2 to enable or disable the LAN1 and LAN2 Ethernets ports, respectively .
H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User's Manual 2-16 2-9 Onboard Indicators LAN1/LAN2 LEDs The Ethernet ports (located beside the VGA port) have two LEDs. On each Gb LAN port, one LED blinks to indicate activity while the other may be green, amber or off to indicate the speed of the connection.

A red mark on a wire typically designates the location of pin 1. • The 80-wire A T A100/66 IDE hard disk drive cable that came with your system • has two connectors to support two drives.

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMIBIOS™ Setup utility for the H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a fl ash chip and can be easily upgraded using a fl oppy disk-based program.
4-2 H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User ’ s Manual 4-2 Main Menu When you fi rst enter AMI BIOS Setup Utility , you will see the Main Menu screen. Y ou can always return to the Main Menu by selecting the Main tab on the top of the screen with the arrow keys.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-3 W ait for F1 if Error This setting controls the system response when an error is detected during the boot sequence. When enabled, BIOS will stop the boot sequence when an error is detected, at which point you will need to press the F1 button to re-enter the BIOS setup menu.
4-4 H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User ’ s Manual Secure Virtual Machine Mode This setting is used to Enable or Disable SVM. Power Now This setting is used to Enable or Disable the AMD Power Now feature for generating ACPI _PPC, _PSS and _PCT objects.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-5 Channel Interleaving Selects the channel-interleaving memory scheme when this function is supported by the processor . The options are Disabled, Address Bits 6, Address Bits 12, XOR of Address Bits [20:16, 6] and XOR of Address Bits [20:16, 9].

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-7 DRAM Timing Con fi guration Memory Clock Mode This setting speci fi es the memory clock mode. Options are Auto , Limit and Manual. DRAM Timing Mode This setting speci fi es the DRAM timing mode. Options include Auto , DCT 0, DCT 1 and Both.

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-9 Hot Plug Support Use this setting to set Hot Plug Support. Options include Disabled and Native. NB-SB Port Features NB-SB Link APSM Use this to set the NB-SB Link ABSM. Options include L1 and Dis- abled. Link Width This setting allows you to set the Link Width for the NB-SB port.
4-10 H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User ’ s Manual TX Drive Strength Use this setting to con fi gure TX drive strength. Options include Auto , 26mA, 20mA, 22mA and 24mA. TXCLK Clock Gating in L1 Use this setting to Enable or Disable the TXCLK clock gating in L1.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 1 HT Link T ristate This setting allwos you to con fi gure the HT Link T ristate. Options include Auto , Disabled, CAD/CTL and CAD/CTL/CLK. NB Deemphasis Level Use this to set the NB deemphasis level. Options include Disabled, 0.4 dB, 1.
4-12 H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User ’ s Manual Block (Multi-Sector T ransfer) Block mode boosts IDE drive performance by increasing the amount of data transferred. Only 512 bytes of data can be transferred per interrupt if block mode is not used. Block mode allows transfers of up to 64 KB per interrupt.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-13 IDE Detect Time Out (Sec) Use this to set the time out value for detecting A T A/A T API devices. Options are 0-35 seconds in 5 second increments. PCI/PnP Con fi guration Clear NVRAM Select Y es to clear NVRAM during boot-up.

Load Onboard SAS Option ROM Use to setting to Enable or Disable SAS option ROM. Boots Graphic Adapter Priority Use this setting to specify the priority for the boot graphic adapter .
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-15 Remote Access Con fi guration Remote Access Allows you to Enable or Disable remote access. If enabled, the settings below will appear . Serial Port Number Selects the serial port to use for console redirection. Options are COM1, COM2 and COM3 .
4-16 H8DI3+/I+(-F) Serverboard User ’ s Manual Hardware Health Con fi guration CPU Overheat Alarm Use the "+" and "-" keys to set the CPU temperature threshold to between 65 o and 90 o C. When this threshold is exceeded, the overheat LED on the chassis will light up and an alarm will sound.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-17 ACPI Aware O/S This setting enables or disables ACPI support for the Operating System. Options include Ye s for enable and No for disable. ACPI APIC Support Determines whether to include the ACPI APIC table pointer in the RSDT pointer list.

Subnet Mask In the fi eld provided here enter the Subnet address in the decimal form of xxx.

If the computer cannot complete the boot process, diagnostic equipment can be attached to the computer to read I/O port 0080h.
