2-5 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Ke yless Start System Remote Controller (T ype A) The remote controller enables the f ollowing operations: • Y ou can l ock or unlock the doors by operating the LOCK/UNLOCK buttons on the remote controller . Refer to the explanation in this section.
2-6 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E “P ANIC” button (3) function This function is to get the attention of oth- ers. Press the “P ANIC” b utton (3) f or more than 1 second. The headlights and tai llights will blink f or about 30 seconds. Also , the hor n will sound inter mittently for about 30 sec- onds at the same time.
2-7 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E 78K001 (1) 80 cm (2 1/2 f eet) When the remote controller is within approximately 80 cm (2 1/2 f eet) from a front door handle or the tailgate switch, you can lock or unlock the doors by pushing the request switch.

If you ha ve lost one o f the remote control- lers, you should change the remote con- troller code in y our ve hicle’ s memor y as soon as possible f or secur ity .

When the doors a re unlock e d: • The turn signal lights will flash twice. • If the interior light switch is in the “DOOR” position, the interior light will tur n on f o r about 15 seconds and then f a de out.

2-15 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Theft Deterrent Light 78K013 This light will blink with the ignition s witch in the “OFF” or “ACC” position. The blink- ing light is intended to deter th eft by lead- ing others to believ e that the vehicle is equipped with a security system.

T o adjust the seat position, pull up on the adjustment lev er and slide the seat forward or rearward. After adjustment, tr y to mov e the seat forw ard and rearward to ensure that it is securely latched .

The number of the lo ck posi- tions depends on the vehicle specifica- tion.

2-28 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E Lap-Shoulder Belt Emergenc y Locking Retractor (ELR) The lap-shoulder seat belt ha s an emer- gency locking retractor (ELR), which is designed to lock the seat belt only dur ing a sudden stop or impact. It also may loc k if you pull the belt across your body very quickly .
2-29 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Safety reminder 60A038 60A040 T o reduce the ri sk of sliding under the belt during a colli sion, position the lap por ti on of the belt across your lap as low on your hips as possible and adjust it to a snug fit by pulling the shoulder por tion of th e belt upward through the latch plate.

2-33 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E Seat Belt I nspection 65D209 P eri odically inspect the seat belts to make sure they work proper ly and are not dam- aged. Check the webbing, buc kles, latch plates, retractors, anchorages and guide loops. Replace any seat belts which do not work proper ly or are damaged.

Make sure that the seat belt is securely latched. T ry to mov e the child restraint system in all directions to make sure it is securely installed.

2-51 BEFORE DRIVING 79K21-03E How the System W orks In a frontal collision, the crash sensors will detect rapid deceleration and send a signal to the controller . If the control ler judges that the dece leration repres ents a sev ere frontal crash, the cont roller will tr igger the inflators.
2-52 BEFORE DRIVIN G 79K21-03E The air bag will neither hinder your view nor make it harder to exit the v e hicle. Air bags must inflate quickly and f orcefully in order to reduce the chance of seri ous or fatal injuries.
