6 THE REMOTE CONTROLLER Troubleshooting: If the remote f ails to function properly, please check that your batteries are i nserted in the correct direction and that they are in good condition. LIST - displays a list of services available fo r viewing.
7 GETTING STARTED INTRODUCTION Digital Television had be gun January 2001 within Australia. Si nce this time, digital television programs and services have evolved and all Australians can now enjoy this exciting new technology. You will find today additional television channels not availabl e on the old er analogue television syst em.
8 HDTV For High Definition Telev isions, you have a choice of either Co mponent Video (YPbPr) or a Digit al HDMI connection. Note that the HDMI lead is not supplied with this product.
9 THE SET-UP PROCESS Ass uming you hav e c onnec ted a HDMI cable or Comp onent V ideo c ab le between y our set-top box and you flat panel television screen, the following will automa tically appear when usin g this product for the first time. If no screen appears, unplug the HDMI cable an d connect again.
10 Use the numerical keys to enter your 4 digit postcode. The press joys tick to select th e state you live in . Once finished, press the key to continue. You must read the copyright disclaimer, then press to contin ue. Use the coloured button keys to enter a 6 colour code.
11 BASIC OPERATION SERVICE LIST MODE Now that yo ur digital receiver is set-u p and wo rking, you a re able to watch televisi on by simpl y pressing the key on t he remote controller. Within seconds, a channel list similar to t he picture is shown. Using the joystic k; pr ess or to scroll to the desired channel.
12 INFO MOD E The key gives you more information about the program you are watc hin g. Moving the joystick either or will toggle between NOW and NEXT programme information from the broadcaster. You can get further programme info rmation by pressing the red (MORE INFO) ke y.
13 The ‘english’ selection is t he default. This is known as MPEG stereo sound and is available a t a ll times for Stan dard Definition broadcasts. The ‘english5.1’ option is available when either an (1) optical TOSLINK cable or (2) coaxial cable is conn ecte d be twee n t he s et-to p bo x an d a Digit al Surr ound So und Amplifier.
14 THE DIGITAL RECORDER PAUSE LIVE TELEV ISION (TIME-SHIFTING) Imagine wa tching television and the phone rings. Simply press the key (or the key) to pause the picture. Onc e you have finis hed your telephone conv e r sat ion, you may wat ch t he program from where you left off.
15 To stop rewinding and watch television, press the key. As described above you are now watching time- shifted television. To watch live television again, press either the key or use the ke y to forw ard to liv e pi ctur e. Whilst you are time-shifting (i.
16 RECORDING PROGRAMMES To record a progr amme, press the desired channel number. Pres s k ey t o disp lay the recording options. There are two options available: - Red key = manual reco rding Green k ey = automatic recording Selecting manual will start a recording from t he current time.
17 HARD-DRIVE MANAGEMENT It is possible to enable (and disable) t he hard-drive to prolon g its performance. In addition, you have the option to ERASE the ha rd-dri ve or just the TIMESHIF T buffer . To access the DIGITAL RECORDER m enu, press the key.
18 RECORDING TIMERS It is possibl e to set a ti mer recor din g (simil ar to your old vi deo- recorder). To set a recording timer, press the key. The following options will appear. M o v e t h e j o y s t i c k to high light the RECORDING TIMERS option.
19 PLAYBACK RECORDINGS To access your recorded programmes, press the key . The following options will appear. Move the joystick to highlight the MY RECO RDINGS o p t i o n . Now press t he key to enter. The following screen will appear. The My Re cordi ng scr een s hows t he net wor k, pr ogram name, date and time of the recordings.
20 ELECTRONIC PROGRAM GUIDE One of the mos t impor tant f eat ures of Digi tal Tel evi sion i s the Electronic Program Guide (commonly known as the ‘EPG’). Today, broadcasters send within their tra n s m i s s i o n N O W a n d N E X T programme information.

22 PARENTAL LOCK The Parental Lock option allows you to block television c hannel s an d o ther interactive services. It also allows you to restrict programs by their classification an d block the time-shifting vid eo on the hard-drive from playback. Press the key and the following op tions will appear.
23 PREFERENCES To access the p references, press the key. Th e following options will appear. Move the joystick to highli ght the Pref ere nces o ption. Now pres s t he key to enter . TUNING-IN Tuning services may be done using two methods: - Automatic and Manual.
24 FAVOURITE CHANNELS Favourite channels allow y ou to hide or skip those unwanted ser vic es that appear in your channel list. Here is how it works. Move joysti ck or to select the broadcast channel. Pres s once to SKIP the service. Pres s again to HIDE the ser vice.
25 The HDTV (HDMI) MODE selection is a vailable only when a HDMI cable is connected. When th e HDMI cable is not connected, the YUV MODE (YPbPr) selection becom es available. When using a HDMI connection, the available video modes are 576 p, 720p and 1080i.
26 NETWORKING To connect your set-top box to y our home network, you s imply ar e required to connect a standard Ethernet cable between the rear of the set-top box (labeled Eth ernet) and to a spare port on t he rear of your home r outer. Your home router is normally defaulted to DHCP mode (i.
27 EXPORT RECORDINGS Note: T his feat ure sho uld be att empt ed by expe rienc ed PC users that unders tand how to create share folde rs on a Windo ws X P sys tem, or have a Networ k har d-dr ive (N AS device) that is suppo rting SAMBA (SMB) protocol.

29 MEDIAPLAYER-HD The Mediaplayer allows you to p layback video, movie, music and view photos . I n ord er to us e t he Mediaplayer, you must have either have:- (i) a compatible USB ha rd-drive conne .
30 INTERNET The Internet browser on your set-top box is very different from your hom e c ompu ter. It is not design ed to be a s ubst itut e f or the home p ersonal comput er. It is based on W3C standards and is designed for interactive television applicatio ns (better known as a T V browser).
31 BOOKMARKS The Bookmar ks featur e allows you to s tore your own links. This is also known as storing your favourites on a home computer. The set-top b ox has an added fe ature where y ou c an also assign a channel number to the destina tion link. Any nu mber between 550 ~599 may be used for this purpose .
32 NOTES SOFTWARE SERI AL NUMBER When contacting TEAC for any support, plea se write down the inf o rmation as s hown below. You can find thi s i nfor matio n by pr ess ing the i key on the fron t panel. The MAC address is used by every computer or product connected to the Internet.
33 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. When I do an automatic tuning, not all chan nels are received . Why? A. TEAC recommends you r eview your aerial and c abling s et-up. Digital B roadc ast A ust ralia hi ghly recommends that you use RG6 Quad shield cabling from your telev ision antenna direct ly to the set- top box.
34 Q. Some web pages I try to access will restart the set-top b ox. Why? A. Many web pages include multiple pop-ups or other code intent i onal ly designe d to get data (sometimes unauthorized) from you. Th ese pages may be beyond t he capabilities of this product.
35 Q. When I reco rd, the reco rdi ng i s not playi ng b ack prop erl y. It is breaking-up. A. This is possible if y our signal level i s too low. Check the Diagnost ics->TV Signal menu.
