1 PREFACE ABOUT THIS GUIDE This manual is a setup and mainte nance guide that can be used for r eference when setting u p the DVR unit and for tr oubleshootin g when a problem occurs.

3 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A Surveillix DVR is s imply a server that p erforms as a High Definit ion Digital Recorder. By utilizing the many features of a co mputer, including proc essing power, storage capacity, graphic s compression, a nd security features , the DVR unit is more powerful than t he analog recorders of th e past.

16 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surveillix™ DVRs come with a mouse, keyboar d and selected softw are and cables. Ide ntify the following components to mak e sure everything has be en properly inclu ded with the new DVR unit. If any of the following items are m issing, contact the d ealer to a rrang e a replacement.
17 OPTIONAL COMPONENTS To fully utiliz e the DVR unit’s po tential; several op tional Surveillix c omponents are listed below. Con tact the dealer fo r mo re information. 1 Extra Video Storage Hard Drive Each DVR unit has a v irtually unlimited s torage potential.
18 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the keyboard to th e DVR unit, plug the end of the Key board into the keybo ard PS/2 Port located on the bac k of the ma chine. The keyboard PS/2 Port c an be identified by t he purple color. Refer t o the Rear Panel Connectors diagram for more inform ation.
19 MONITOR SETUP The DVR may have on e or both of the fo llowing connections av ailable for monitors which can be us ed individually or in tandem. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. S-Video Output To TV/VCR. Attach t he monitor or monitors to the rear of the DVR unit using the cable s upplied by the monitor m anufacturer.
20 CONNECTING A VIDEO SOURCE TO THE DVR There are differen t types of Video S ources that can b e plugged into the DVR unit including DVD play ers, VHS players, an d CCTV Cameras. The back of the DVR unit c ontains up to 16 video in puts depending on the DVR model .
21 CONNECTING SENSORS TO THE DVR Each DVR un it may have up to 16 Sensor inputs. Thes e inputs can be used wi th devices suc h as infrared devices, m otion device, glass breakage a larms, door and window trips, and many more. The Sensors can be s et to Normally Open or Normally Closed inside the softwa re.
22 LOOPING OUTPUTS The 8 and 16 Channe l DVR units may have up to 16 Looping outputs. Depen ding on the destination of the outputs, each output may have to be termin ated. Looping ou tputs for a 16 Channel DVR loop ing are highlig hted below. 32 Channel EVR units may have up to 32 lo oping outputs.
23 CONNECTING A PTZ CAMERA Setting up a PTZ Camera is s imple. The DVR unit comes preass embled with an internal PTZ ada pter. The cabling may be run up t o 4,000 ft using 2 2 Gauge Twisted Pair. It is important to understand how the PTZ connects to the DVR.
24 HARD DRIVE ARRAY Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the Hard Drive Power Butto n to turn off power to the hard drive being removed. 2. Turn the Butt on Lock to the ope n position and pus h the Handle Release Butto n 3. Pull the Rele ase Handle outwar d while removing the h ard drive.
