It can automatically adjust to any voltage from 100 to 240 volts and to a frequency of either 50 or 60 hertz, enabling you to use the computer in al most any country/region.

Shut Do wn mode (Boot mode) When you turn off the power in Shut Down mode no data is saved and the computer will boot to the operating system’ s main screen.
User ’ s Manual 3-9 Getting Started ■ Y o u can return to your previous working environment immediately when you turn on the computer . ■ Saves power by shutting down the system when the computer receives no input or hardware access for the duration set by the System hibernate feature .
3-10 User ’s Manual Getting Started Standby mode If you have to inte rrupt your work, you can turn off the power w ithout exiting from your software. Data is maintained i n the computer ’s main memory . When you turn on the power again, you can continue workin g right where you left off.

4-2 User ’s Manual Operating Basics Using the USB flopp y disk drive USB floppy disk drive connects to one of the computer ’s USB ports. It accommodates 1.44-megabyte or 720-kilobyte floppy disks. Refer to Chapter 2, The Grand T our , for more information.
User ’ s Manual 4-3 Operating Basics Disconnecting USB floppy disk driv e When you have finished using the USB floppy disk drive, fol low the procedures below to disconnect it: 1. W ai t for the indicator light to go out to make sure all floppy disk activity has stopped.
4-4 User ’s Manual Operating Basics Loading discs T o load CD/DVDs, follow the steps below . 1. When the computer ’s power is on, press the eject button to open the disc tray slightly . Pressing the eject button 2. Grasp the disc tray gently and pull until it is fully opened .
User ’ s Manual 4-5 Operating Basics 4. Press gently at the center of the CD/DVD until you feel it click into place. The CD/DVD shou ld lie below the top of the spindle, flush with the spindle base. 5. Push the center of the disc tray to close it. Press gently until it locks into place.
4-6 User ’s Manual Operating Basics 2. The CD/DVD extends slight ly over th e sides of the disc tray so you can hold it. Hold the CD/DVD gently and lift it ou t. Removing a CD/DVD 3. Push the center of the disc tray to close it. Press gently until it locks into place.
User ’ s Manual 4-7 Operating Basics Writing CDs on D VD-RO M&CD-R/RW drive The DVD-ROM&CD-R/RW drive lets you write as well as read CD-ROMs. Observe the precaution s in this section to ensure the best performance for writing CDs. For information on loa ding and unloading CDs refer to the Using optical media drives section.

Region selection T elecommunication re gulations vary from one regio n to another , so you will need to make sure the internal modem’s settings a re correct for the region in which it will be used.
