15 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A Surveillix XVS / DVS / HVS is a DVR, a server that performs as a High Definition Digital Recorder. By utilizing the many feat ures of a computer, incl uding processing power, storage cap acity, graphics compression, an d security features , the DVR is more pow erful than the analog r ecorders of the past.

28 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surveillix™ DVRs come with a mouse, k eyboard and s elected software and cables. Ident ify the followin g components to make sure everything has be en properly incl uded with the new D VR. If any of the following items are missing, co ntact the dealer to arrang e a replacement.
29 OPTIONAL COMPONENTS To fully utilize the DVR’s potential; s everal option al Surveillix c omponents are liste d below. Contact the dealer for more in formation. Extra Video Storage Hard Drive Each DVR has a virtually unlimited st orage potential.
30 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the key board to the DVR, p lug the end of th e Keyboard in to the keyboard PS/ 2 Port located on the back of the machine . The keyboard PS/2 Po rt can be identified by the purple color. Refer to the Rea r Panel Connector s diagram for mor e information.
31 MONITOR SETUP The DVR has the follow ing connectio ns available to att ach a monitor. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. DVI-D Output To TV / Digital Monitor Attach the monitor or monitors to the rear of the DVR using th e cable supplie d by the monit or manufacturer.
32 MAKING CONNECTIONS ON AN XVS Connecting a Video Source There are different types of Video So urces that can be plu gged into the X VS including DVD play ers, VHS players, and CCTV Cameras. The back of th e XVS contains up to 16 vi deo inputs depen ding on the model.
33 Connecting Sensors to the XVS Each XVS may have up to 16 Sensor inputs. These inputs can be used wi th devices such as infrar ed devices, motion device, glass breakage alarms , door and window t rips, and many m ore. The Sensors can be set to Nor mally Open or Norm ally Closed inside the software.
34 Connecting Control Outputs to the XVS Each XVS may have up to 4 Control Outputs. These outputs can be used to trigger devices such as Sirens, Phone Dia lers, Lights, and any other rel ay activated device. There is no power supplied to the ports. Us e an external power s upply if nec essary.
35 Looping Outputs The 16 Channel X VS may have up t o 16 Looping ou tputs. Depending on the destinat ion of the out puts, each outp ut may have t o be terminated. The o utputs are located on the BNC Connector Cab le. Attach the cabl e to the input for the BNC Connector Cable highlighted below.
36 Connecting a PTZ Camera Setting up a PTZ Camera is simple. The DVR c omes preassembl ed with an inter nal PTZ adapter. Th e cabling may be run up to 4,000 ft using 22 Gauge Twis ted Pair. It is important to understand how t he PTZ connects to t he DVR.
37 MAKING CONNECTIONS ON DVS / HVS Connecting a Video Source There are different types of Video Sourc es that can be plu gged into the DVR includ ing DVD players, VHS play ers, and CCTV Cameras. The bac k of the DVR contains up to 32 video in puts depending on the DVR model.
38 Connecting Sensors to the DVS / HVS Each DVR has up to 16 Se nsor inputs. 41 HARD DRIVE ARRAY (D VS / HVS ONLY) Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the Hard Drive Power Butto n to turn off power t o the hard drive being removed. 2. Turn the Butt on Lock to the open position a nd push the Handle Release Butto n 3. Pull the Rele ase Handle outward while remov ing the hard drive.
42 TURNING ON THE DVR Once the cables a nd adapters hav e been proper ly connected it is time to turn on the power . To turn on the po wer follow these s teps: 1. Turn on the monitor and any ex ternal peripherals (ex. Printers, Exter nal Storage Devices , etc.
