2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Ma nual is an important part of your new snow thrower. It will help you assemble, prepare and maintain the unit for best performance.
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATIONS PRACTICES DANGER: This machine was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation in this manual. As with any type of power eq uipment, carelessness or error on t he part of the operator can resu lt in serious injury.
4 Operation 1. Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts, in the auger/impeller housing or chute assembly. Contact with rotating par ts can amputate hands and feet. 2. The au ger/impeller con trol is a safety dev ice. Never bypass its operation. Doing so makes the machine unsafe an d may cause person al injury.
5 SECTION 1: SETTING UP YOUR SNOW THROWER IMPORT ANT : This unit is shipped with the engine f ull of oil. After assembly, se e page 9 for fuel and oil details. Removing From Carton 1. Cut the co rners of the carton and lay the sides flat on the ground.
6 7. Insert the r ound end of the chut e control box on the short tube of the chute assembly as shown in Figure 3C. 8. Inser t other end of the chut e control box into the chute support tube as shown in Figu re 3C. 9. Insert the cle vis pin, earlier removed, throu gh the holes on the chute control box an d chute support rod.
7 8. If the wheels can still be turned when you engage the drive contro l, loosen the jam nut on the drive cable and thread th e cable in one turn. Recheck th e adjustment and repea t if needed. 9. Tighten the jam nut to secure the cable when correct adjustme nt is reached.
8 SECTION 2: OPERATING YOUR SNOW THROWER Know The Contr ols Read this owner’s manua l and safety rules before operating your snow thrower. Compare Figure 8 with your snow thrower to familia rize yourself with the locat ion of variou s controls and adjust ments.
9 Four- Way Chute Control™ This four-way cont rol leve r is meant to control t he direction and di stance of snow discharge from t he chute. Press the butt on on the knob and turn it left or right to rota te the chute to the direction that snow will be thrown.
10 Electric Starter Bef ore star ting, mak e sure that the engine has suffi- cient oil. T he snow thrower engine is eq uipped with a 120 v olt A.C . electric star ter and recoil starter . The electr ic star ter is equ ipped with a th ree-wire power cord and plug and is desig ned to operate on 120 v olt A C household current.
11 Before Stopping 1. Run engine for a few min utes to help dry off any moisture on engine. 2. Avoid freezing of th e starter by following these steps bef ore stopping the snow thro wer: Recoil Starter a. With the engine runni ng, pull the starter rope with a rapid, con tinuous full arm stroke three or four times.
12 Chute Clean-Out T ool The clean-out tool is conveniently fastened to the rear of the auger housing with a mounting clip. Never use your hand to clean a clogged chute. 1. Release both th e auger control and the drive/aug er contr ol lock. 2. Stop t he engine by mov ing the throttle to the stop position.
13 • Auger Shaft: At least once a season, remove the shear pins from the au ger shaft and spray lubricant inside the shaft. See F igure 12. Grease fittin gs can be found at eith er end of the auger shaft. Lub ricate with a grease gun once a season. • Wheels: Once a season, remove the bolt from each wheel and take the wheel off the axle.
14 SECTION 4: SERVICE & ADJUSTMENT Servicing Augers The augers are secured to the spiral sh aft with six shear pins and cotter pins. See Figure 12 . 1. If the augers do not tu rn, check to see if the pins have sheared. 2. Replace the pin s if needed.
15 Figure 14 Auger Belt 1. Tip the snow thrower up and forward, so that it rests on the housing. Remove the self-tapping scre ws from the f rame cover underneath the snow thrower and move the frame cover away. See Figure 15. Figure 15 2. Turn the shoulder screw a half a t urn and slide it out of the mounting br acket.
16 4. Back out the stop bolt to cr eate sufficient gap between the friction wheel disc and the drive pulley. Pull the drive belt from ar ound the drive pulley and clear it off t he friction wheel disc. See F igure 18. Figure 18 5. Now moving t o the other side of the snow thr ower again, slide the belt of f the crankshaft.
17 10. Insert th e shift arm assembly into the friction whe el assembly and hold assembly in po sition. See Figure 22. 11. Slide hex ge ar shaft through right side of the housing and the friction whee l assembly. 12. Inse rt the hex gear shaft thro ugh the sprocket and the spacer.
18 7. Check for correct adjustment before oper ating the snow thrower. Skid Shoe Refer to p age 7 for details. Chute Control Once a season or every 25 hours of oper ation, whichever is earlier, check whether th e chute control cables have slackene d.
