Installation 6 975-0210-01-01 Installing the RC/GS and RC7 The RC/GS and RC7 are de si gned to be flush mounted through an opening in a wall and secured with four screws. The RC/GS and RC7 require no connectio ns other than one cable that plugs into the back of the unit.
Installing the RC/GS and RC7 975-0210-01-01 7 Choosing a location Choose a location that is easily accessible. The RC/GS and RC7 should be mounted where they are clearly visible, with unobstructed access to the screen and buttons. The location should be indoors, dry , and free from corrosive or explosive fumes.

Place the ON / OFF s witch on the R V Series Inverter/ Charger to the OF F position and disconnect the AC power . 5. Connect the communications cable into the RJ1 1 port on the inverter/char ger marked “Remote Control” (Figure 2-2).

Configuration 12 975-0210-01-01 V iewing the Setup Menu Y ou can use the R V Series Remote Controls to configure the R V Series Inverter/Charg er and the remote itself. Configuration is performed us ing the Setup menu. Y ou can view the Setup menu and conf igure settings by using the Setup/Menu Item buttons and the Settings button.

See “RC/GS and RC7 Setup Menu Summary” on page 23 for the complete menu structure. Set Idle Set Idle enables or disables the power-saving “search sense” mode feature.
Configuration 14 975-0210-01-01 Battery T ype T o ensure th e batteries are receiving the proper char ge voltage, the Battery T ype must be selected for the type of batteries used in the system: GEL Cell, Flooded Lead Acid and AGM. The default setting is GEL Cell.
Configuring the RC/GS and RC7 975-0210-01-01 15 Max Charg e Rate The battery char ger ’ s maximum output current can b e specified using the Max Charge Rate menu. The default is 100% of the maximum ch arge ra te. Refer to the R V Series Inverter/Charger Owner ’ s Manual for model-specific adjustable charge rates in amps.
Configuration 16 975-0210-01-01 Remote Setup The Remote Setup screen displays system status and error messages that occur during norma l operation. From the Setup menu you can select: • Last Key (default) to display the last sys tem status message displayed after exiting the Setup menu.
Configuring the RC/GS and RC7 975-0210-01-01 17 Set Clock (RC/GS Only) Some RC/GS automatic generato r start functions are based on the time of day . The clock mu st be properly set to ensure the programmed function will pe rform at the correct time. The clock uses 24-h our time and ranges from 00:00 to 23:59.
Configuration 18 975-0210-01-01 Generator Start (RC/GS Only) After setting the clock and sel ecting a generator , set the parameters for automatically starting the generator based upon a battery voltage. Press th e up arrow and scroll through the menus to view the Generator S tart menu.
Configuring the RC/GS and RC7 975-0210-01-01 19 The generator can be started or stopped at any time by pressing the down arrow button until the Gen S tart/Stop menu is displayed. Press and ho ld the On/Off button until you hear a beep from the RC/GS. Release the button after the beep sounds.

T o specify the begin quiet tim e, scroll to the Begi n Gen Quiet: 00:00 by using the Up and Down arrow buttons.

Operation 26 975-0210-01-01 Indicators and Contr ols The RC/GS and RC7 feature LEDs, a display screen, and buttons for viewing opera ting status. Status LEDs Four indicator lights (LEDs) light up or flash during operation to indicate the system’ s status.
Indicators and Controls 975-0210-01-01 27 Inverter LED The green Inverter LED indicates the inverter is on and ready to provide power from the batteries.
Operation 28 975-0210-01-01 Batt. Full LED The yellow Batt. Full LED ind icates the state of charge on the batteries. This LED will not illuminate until the batteries have charged u p to at least 90% (according to the inverter/char ger ’ s estimate).
Indicators and Controls 975-0210-01-01 29 Buttons There are four buttons on the front panel of the RC/GS and RC7 used to control the invert er and enter sys tem operating parameters. On/Off The On/Off button co ntrols the inverter section of the inverter/charger .
Operation 30 975-0210-01-01 System Status Displays The RC/GS and RC7 remote co ntrols display the operating mode and system status by lig hting one or more LEDs and/or by displaying a message on th e screen. The four LEDs reflect the same information as the single tricolored LED on the R V Series Inverter/Charger.
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 31 When the initiating condit ion (battery voltage or thermostat signal) has occurred, the Pen ding Genstart message is displayed for approximately two minutes, awaiting a change in the condition or a manual o verride.
Operation 32 975-0210-01-01 Genset Error Mess ages (RC/GS Only) Gen W on’t Start If the generator does not start after the three attempts, the RC/ GS displays the message “Gen won’t Start” and the red Error LED on the front panel lights.
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 33 The Gen Quiet Fault error is aut o matically reset at the end of the quiet time period if no other action is taken. Figure 4-5 Gen Quiet F ault Error Message Note: If the generator is manually started from the RC/GS, the generator will not shut down automatically .
Operation 34 975-0210-01-01 Inverter Mode Messages When the inverter is on (no AC present), it is either inverting or searching the AC output ci rcuits for a load meeting the specifications set up in the Set Idle menu selection (see Figure 3-3 on page 13), if th e search se nse mode is selected.
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 35 Charge r Mode Messages When AC (shore power or gene rator power) is available, the inverter/charger automatically switches to the charger mode. There are four separate charger modes: Bulk, Absorption, Float and Equalization.
Operation 36 975-0210-01-01 Float Charging When the ch arger is in the Float mode, the screen shows “Float Charging” and the Char ge LED quickly flashes.
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 37 Inverter/Charg er Error Messages Error messages appear when a fault is detected with either the inverter or char ger . The red Error LED lights, and the buzzer sounds. Error messages for the inverter/charger display the error condition as well as a suggested remedy .
Operation 38 975-0210-01-01 Over T emperature The “Otemp/Less Load” System Status message indicates the inverter/charger transformer and power components have exceeded a safe operating temperature. Reduce the load on the inverter . When the unit cool s, it automatically resets and resumes operation.
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 39 High Battery V oltage The “Hibat/Stop Chr g” System Status message appears when the battery voltage rises above 15.7 V . This co ndition usually occurs only when a charging source other than the R V Series Inverter/Charger i s used to char ge the battery bank.
Operation 40 975-0210-01-01 Ch arge r F a ul t The “Charger Fault” System S t atus message appears when a n internal error is detected in the inverter/char ger during charging. In addition, the red E rror LED is on and the buzzer sounds. After 15 minut es, the charge relay disconnects and the inverter section shuts down.
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 41 Meters Display The RC/GS and RC7 have built-in meters that monitor inverter/charger activities. T o view these meters, press and hold the Meter Mode button (u p arrow) for five seconds until the screen clears. Use the down arrow button to scroll through the meter disp lays.
Operation 42 975-0210-01-01 Inverter/Charg er Current This meter displays the actual DC current supplied to the batteries when the R V Series Inverter/Charger is charging (+) and current drawn from the batteries when the inverter/ charger is inver ting (–).
System Status Displays 975-0210-01-01 43 System Status Messages After installing the RC/GS and RC7, the LCD screen displays operating system status messages which is the default screen after exiting all other setting or meter functions. Operating parameters include Battery Sta te-of-charge and Se t Shorepower .
Operation 44 975-0210-01-01 Set Shore P ower This display has the same function as “Set Shore Power” on page 15. Y ou can set the shor e power input (from 5 to 30 amps) so the total current dr aw from the charger does not exceed the circuit breaker rating, to provide the maximum current to the AC loads.
