4 SAFETY W ARNING Gasoline and its vapors are extremely flammable and explosive. Fir e or explosion can cause severe burns or death. WHEN ADDING FUEL • T urn engine OFF and let engine cool at least 2 minutes before removing gas cap. • Fill fuel tank outdoors or in well-ventilated area.
5 SAFETY W ARNING Engines give of f carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless, poison gas. Breathing carbon monoxide can cause nausea, fainting or death. • Start and run engine outdoors. • Do not start or run engine in enclosed area, even if doors or windows are open.

7 OIL 274778 CAUTION: This engine is shipped from Briggs & Stratton without oil . Check oil level before starting engine. I f you start the engine without oil, the engine will be damaged beyond repair and will not be covered under warranty .
8 FUEL TYPE OF FUEL TO USE • Use clean, fresh, regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 77 oct ane. Fresh fuel prevents gum from form ing i n t he f uel s yst em o r on e ssent ial carburetor p art s. Purchas e fuel in q uantity that can b e u sed w ithin 3 0 d ays.
9 ST ARTING W ARNING • Do not use pressurized starting fluids. • V apors are flammable. ST ARTING AND OPERA TING TIPS ♦ Store and fuel equipment in level position. ♦ Use fresh fuel. (See Fuel.) ♦ Use correct type of oil for expected starting temperature.

11 MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE Regular maintenance will improve the performance and exten d the life of the engine. See any Authorized Briggs & Stratton Dealer for service. Use only genuine Briggs & Stratton parts. Other parts may not perform as well, may damage the engine, and may result in injury .
12 MAINTENANCE CHANGING OIL IN GEAR REDUCTION (if equipped) Change oil in gear reduction after every 100 hours of operation. [1] T o drain oil, loosen 4 gear case cover screws an d drain oil into appropriat e receptac le. [2] After draining, torque 4 screws to 85 in-lbs.
