1 W elcome – Intro duction to Y our DSmobile ® Scanner ............. Congratulations on pur chasing a DSmobile 600 document scanner! W e have designed this product to provide you with a simple but ef fe ctive tool to capture, manage, and archive documents of many t y pes.

3 If the installation does not start automatically , please do uble-click the MY COMPUT ER icon on your W indo ws desktop, and then do uble-click the CD icon.

5 5. When the dr iver has been installed , the following screen will be displayed. Connect your scanner to a USB port, and click “Next”. Follo w the recommended choices for the New Hard ware W izard.
6 V ie wing, Printing, Saving the User ’ s Guide 1. Click on V ie w/Print the PDF User ’ s Guide. T his will launch Adobe Reade r ® and display the first pa ge of the User ’ s Guide. If this d oes not happen, you must install Adobe Read er software as in t he next section.
7 PageManager 7 Installatio n At this point you may install the PageManager 7 software. Follow the on-screen instructions to install P ageManager 7. Note: After you have completed all software installations, we strongly recommend that you remove the CD and r estart your co mputer even though you are not requested by W indows to do so.
8 UN-INSTALLING SOFTWARE If you should need to un-install the driver so ftware later, y o u simply insert the original installation CD and ru n the setup again. At this ti me you will be given three o ptions. Select the REMOVE o ption, click NEXT , and then click RE MOVE.
9 INSTALLING HARDWARE Do not connect the sca nner to your co mputer until instructed to do so by the driver installation software. When instr ucted to do so , connect the scanner cable as shown below and follow the instructio ns. After you have installed t he software (Steps 1-4, p .

1 1 CALIBRATION Note: Calibration is critica l because it allows the i mage qualit y to be “balanced” for your computer and scan ner combination. If you switch t he computer that you use with your sca nner or change scanners, you must calibrate again.
12 This calibration p rocess uses the special black a nd white calibration sheet (see p icture on page iv) that was included with your sca nner . Whe n calibrating, make sure the side with the black bar is facing do wn and note the direction o f the arrows for prop er insertion.
13 USING YOUR SCANNER Please insert docu ments face do wn. When using a W indo ws scanning app lication, always press the butto n on top o f the scanner to initiate a scannin g program. The following windo w will appear when you press the button on the to p of the scanner .
14 SETTING A DEF AUL T PROGRAM T o choose a default scanning program, just highlight t he program name, c lick on “Always use this pr ogram for this action” and then click on “OK”. T he program will subsequently auto matically launch when you press the button on the top of the scanner to initiate a scan.
15 CHANGING PROGRAMS T o cancel a default pro gram, on the W indows deskto p: 1. Select Start: Control Panel: Sc anners and Cameras (In Category V iew , select Printers and other Har dware: Scanners and Ca meras). 2. Right click on t he scanner icon, select P roperties, and then select Events.
16 Note that there is no ‘apply’ button on th is pr op erties scr een, so you must press ‘OK.’ After this process, the “Select the pro gram to launch for this action” (shown above) will display when the bu tton on the top o f the scanner is pres sed to initiate a progra m.

18 SETTING ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES If installation or calibration is not working on your Macintosh system, t he solution may be in the privilege s. W hen initially set up, you ar e given administrator privileges which shou ld allow you to install t he DSmobile soft ware and complete the calibration.
19 CALIBRATION Calibration is critical b ecause it allo ws the image quality to b e “balanced” for your computer and scanner co mbination. If you switch the co mputer that you u se with your scanner or change scan ners, you must calibrate again. Note that you must be logged in as a n Ad ministrator to calibr ate the system.
20 Calibrating your DS mobile 600 Sca nner using “Image Captur e.” Calibration is a critical step in setting up your scanner . It allo w s the scan ned color data to be “calibrated” to your computer a nd scanner combin ation for best image quality .

28 USING YOUR SCANNER TW AIN for Apple Mac OS X Apple provides a so ftware product entitled “Image Capture” with Maci ntosh computers that is TW AIN co mpatible. A scanner d river for Mac OS X v10.3 or higher can be do wnloaded from the Installation CD.
29 Using Scanning So f tware……………… DSmobileSCAN II (W i ndows Only) This software will save all scans to an Adob e Acrobat PDF file, a J PEG , or a TIFF file.
30 A Note about Do cument Names Y ou can use a suffix with file names to add either an index number or a date. If you append the filena me with a “%n”, the file na me is appended with a sequential number beginning with 1 (if a p revious file exists, the number is incr emented to the next highest number).
31 TW AIN (FOR WINDOWS) The TW AIN driver for the DSmobile 60 0 is automatically i nstalled when the I nstallation CD installs the W indo ws drivers. This TW AIN driver defines co mmunication and data structures between so ftware applications on your PC and the DS mobile 600.
32 PageManager ® 7 (For Windows) This program makes it eas y to scan, share, and organize your photos and documents. It helps you not only convert piles of pape r into organized digitized files, but also lets you view , e dit, send, and back-up files i n many formats.
33 Performing Scan ner Calibration a) T o calibrate your scanner select the acquire i mage data icon (scanner a nd camera icon) under the toolbar menu.
