2-5 Confidential 3.2 Scanner Mechanism This mechanism consist s of the document cover , the scanner unit (scanner cover), and the automatic document feeder (ADF).
2-6 Confidential 3.2.1 Scanner unit The scanner unit is equipme nt which scans the paper using the CCD unit. This machine prints the sca nning data (copy) or dat a is sent by fax (fax transmission). There are two kinds of scannin g method of the scanner unit.
2-7 Confidential 6. Sca nning operation (The CCD unit moves under the immovable documen t.) Open the document cover , place a sheet of the document (or opened book) onto the document glass, and close the document cover .

2-14 Confidential 3.3.1 Plate-up Function of the Paper T ray The plate ASSY in the p aper tray is pushed up with the motor dr ive and not with the spring in order to maint ain the constant pressure to the feed roller and to gi ve the paper feeding performance.
2-15 Confidential 3.3.2 Paper supply The feed roller picks up a few she ets or one shee t of p aper from the paper tray every time it is rotated and feed s it to the separation roller . 2-16 Confidential 3.3.3 Paper registration After the p aper top position is detected by the re gist actuator front, the paper , separated into individual sheet s by the separation roller , is fed further for a specified time, and the paper top position reaches the regist ro lle r so that the paper skew is adjusted.
2-17 Confidential 3.3.4 Paper eject After the printi ng image on the exposure drum is transferred onto the p aper , the paper is fed to the fuser unit to fix unfixe d toner onto the paper by the heat roller and the pres sure roller in the fuser unit. 2-18 Confidential 3.3.5 Duplex printing After the p aper exits from the eject roller ASSY with the front of sheet pr inted, the eject roller ASSY rotates conversely and fe eds the p aper to the DX un it, where the paper skew is adjusted.

2-25 Confidential 3.5 Print 3.5.1 Basic Principle The printing pro cess consists broadly of 5 proc esses: electrification, exposure, de velopment, transfer and fusing. 1. Charging: The surface of an exposure drum is electrically charged. 2. Exposure: A printed ima ge is forme d on the su rface of th e drum b y applying laser beam .
2-26 Confidential 3.5.2 Print Process (1) Charging The flow of the ion charge is controlled b y consta nt voltage of the g rid 850 V to en sure it is distribute d evenly on the drum surface. In or der to coat toner on the exposure drum , the drum needs to be e venly electrified.
2-27 Confidential (2) Exposure The laser beam radiated from a laser dio de inside the laser unit is concentrated into a constant wid th by a slit in the CO lens cell and then reflected by a polygon mirror rot ating at high speed. The evenly cha rged exposure drum is irradiated with reflected light and exposed .
2-28 Confidential (3) Development T oner is attracted to a printed-image area on the exposure drum where surfac e potential is lowered due to exposure. By controlling develop ing bias voltage supplied to the develop roller , the amount of toner take n to the drum is adjusted to keep printing density constant.
2-29 Confidential (4) T ransfer By applying a minus ch arge to the transfer r o ller , the toner adhered to the exposure drum is transferre d to paper . Confidential CHAPTER 3 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE This chapter details er ror messages and codes that the incorporated self-diagnostic functions display if any erro r or malfunction occurs. If any error message appears, refer to this chapter to find which co mponents should be checked or rep laced.

3-3 Confidential 1.3 Initial Check Check the following items before attempting to repair the machine. ■ Operating Environment (1) Put your machine on a flat, stable surface su ch as a desk that is free of vibration and shocks.

DISTINGUISH ERROR CAUSE 2.1 ERROR INDICA TION T o help the user or the ser vice personnel prompt ly locate th e cause of a problem (if any), the facsimile equipment incorporates the self-diag nostic functions which display error messages for equipment errors and communications errors.
3-6 Confidential Cooling Down W ait for a while The temp erature of the drum unit or toner cartr idge is too hot. The machine will pause its current print job and go into cooling down mode. During the cooling down mode, you will hear the cooling fan ru nning while the LCD shows Cooling Down, and W ait for a while.
