6 About PS-9000 PS-9000 is a USB print server for P-touch/QL on a 10B ASE-T/100BASE -TX network environment. PS- 9000 is compa tible with the print monitors of P-t ouch printer dri vers and enabl es you to visual ly check the status of print jobs and P- touch/QL.

9 Connection to the Network ■ Prepare the following items. Ethernet HUB USB Cable Network Cable Caution ● If you have already used the PS-9000 on another ne twork or if it had been connected to other P-touch units, initia lize the PS-9000 to its factory default set tings.
10 1 Use the ne twork cable to connect the PS-9000 to the Ethernet hub. 2 Connect the AC adapter to the PS-9000, and then plug the power cable of the P-touch and PS-9000 into the electrical outlet. 3 Use the USB cable to connect th e PS-9000 to the P -touch.

13 Starting the Brother PS-9000 Utility Insert the CD-ROM included with the PS -9000 into t he CD-R OM drive of your c omputer. The main menu dialog box will automa tically appear. 1 After the CD-ROM is inserte d into the CD-R OM drive of the computer, the ma in menu dialog box automatically appears.
14 How to Set Up t he PS-90 00 There are two setup methods available with the B rother PS-9000 Utility. 1 “Installs this unit and the utility.” With this meth od , the PS-9 00 0 prin t se rve r set ting s are sp ecifi ed an d t he so ftw are fo r pr int ing on a network i s installed onto the comput er.
15 PS-9000 Se tup Method 1 The setup wizard is v ery easy. “Install this unit and the utility .” -Using the TCP/IP protocol This method sets up the PS-9000 and the printing so f tware. Choose this setup mode when you are using the PS-9000 for the first time and the product is still set to its factory default settings.
16 4 Select the PS-9000 to be set up, and t hen click [Nex t]. • If the pr oduct is not displa yed in th e list, click [Sea rch]. • Alt ern ativ ely, yo u c an type in t he Ethernet addre ss of the product that you want to se t up.
17 6 The selected configuration is displayed for you to check it. If the configuration is correct, click [Execute] to appl y it. The settings are sent to the PS-9000. 7 The Brother PS -9000 Utility is i nstalled. Click [Next] if you do not want to change the destination directory.
18 0 Select the P-touch to be set up, a nd then click [Next ]. • If there are no compatibl e P-touch un its, cli ck [Canc el] to qui t this setup wizard, install a P-touch print er driver, and then repe at the setup procedure for the PS-9000 from the beginning.
19 PS-9000 Se tup Method 2 The setup wizard is v ery easy. “Install t he utility.” -Install the printing client software This method se ts up only the B rother PS-9000 Utility. Choose this setup method w hen the PS -9000 has already been set up in the e nvironme nt.
20 4 The Brother PS -9000 Utility is i nstalled. Click [Next] if you do not want to change the destination directory. • The screen show n below appears i f the Brother PS-9000 Utility has already been installed on your computer. Select if you want to over write the software, a n d then clic k [Next].
21 9 Select the PS -9000, which is to be set up, and then click [Next]. • If the pr oduct is not displa yed in th e list, click [Sea rch]. • If you click [Se arch Option], the TCP/IP broadcast addre ss can be configured. 0 Type in the printer port name, and then click [Next ].
22 Other Functions Other functions of the PS-9000 are as follows. Automatic IP address configuration with DHCP/ BOO TP PS-9000 supports the DHCP/BOOTP prot ocol. TCP/IP- relate d setting s can be sp ecified w ithin the network where the DHCP/B O OTP server is operating.

28 Questions & Answ ers This chapter answers questions and offers solutions to problems that might arise when using the product.
