4 Intr oduc tion Y our Freestyle 1025 is designed for ease of use and made to the high standards set by B T Thank you for making the right choice. Y ou can expect your Freestyle 1025 to pr ovide many years of quality ser vice. Please r ead the instr uctions carefully befor e use and keep this user guide for future r eference.
5 Set ting up Follow these steps to get your Freestyle 1025 ready for use 2 Check your telephone socket 1 Handset aerial Y our Freestyle 1025 uses a compact aerial which does not pull out. If you do not have a moder n-style telephone socket, call Free fone 0800 800 1 50 and ask for a BT engineer to come and fit the cor r ect socket.
When fully charged and in good condition, the handset batteries will provide up to 7 hours continuous talk time or 72 hours standby . If the batteries are r unning low , the BATT LOW light will flash.
7 Y our Freestyle 1025 works by sending and receiving radio signals between the base unit and the handset. The strength of the signal depends on wher e you site the base unit and how the aerial is deployed. The higher the base unit is located, the better .
8 Using y our F r eest yle 1025 t elephone Making and receiving calls The handset range is up to 200 metres fr om the base unit in ideal conditions. If you star t to go out of range while using the phone, you will hear war ning beeps. If you do not come back in range, your call will be cut of f.
9 If you go out of range Y our Freestyle 1025 has a range of 200 metres in ideal conditions. However , if you go out of range during a call, you will hear a series of beeps, Move closer to the base to re-establish the signal. Using the Secrecy button Y ou can prevent your caller fr om hearing you while you talk to someone else close by .
10 USING Y OUR PHONE T o dial a stored number T o store an engaged number in the memory Press buttons in order shown Press the T ALK button. Press the QUICKDIAL button. Press the 0-9 location code under which the number you want is stored. The number is dialled automatically .
During a conversation you can adjust the volume of the incoming caller . Press the VOLUME button to increase or decrease the speech volume. 11 USING Y OUR PHONE T o dial a stored number of more than 20 digits Press the T ALK button. Press the QUICKDIAL button, then the first 0-9 location code number .
USING Y OUR PHONE T o use Call W aiting Call W aiting If an incoming call ar rives while you ar e already engaged on a telephone call, you will hear a soft beep ever y 5 seconds (this beep is not audible to the person you are speaking to).
13 T o insert a pause W ith some switchboards, after dialling the access code you may have to wait for a moment while the switchboard picks up an outside line. If so, press the REDIAL button to inser t a 2.5 second pause before keying in the telephone number .
14 Using the F r eest yle 1025 answ ering machine About your Freestyle 1025 answering machine Y our Freestyle 1025 can digitally r ecord up to 14 minutes of messages, with each incoming message lasting a maximum of 3 minutes. Y our Freestyle 1025 answering machine can operate from the base unit and also dir ectly from your handset.
15 T o switch the answering machine on / off Press the Answer on/of f button. If you hear ‘Answer of f ’ the answering machine is switched of f. Display flashes between a dash and the number of messages saved in the memor y , or display shows a single dash if there ar e no messages.
16 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o delete your outgoing message Y ou can delete your outgoing message and retur n to your Fr eestyle 1025’s pre-r ecorded outgoing message. Press the SCREEN/MENU button. Press the 8 button. “Y our outgoing message is…” While the message is playing, press the 5 button.
17 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o adjust the loudspeaker volume Y our Freestyle 1025 has a volume range of 0-H. The pre-set level is 5. Press VOL + to incr ease the volume. When you reach the maximum volume, the LED display shows H . Press VOL – to decr ease the volume.
18 ANSWERING MA CHINE Using your answering machine from the base station T o play back a message at the base Y ou can play back your messages at the answering machine: Press the PLA Y button. Y ou hear the announcement “Y ou have (n) messages” and your messages are played back, star ting with the first message received.
19 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o cancel deletion from the base Cancel deletion by pressing the STO P button during the 8-0 countdown. All messages will be saved including any marked for deletion.
20 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o switch the message alert on or off Using your answering machine from the cordless handset Y ou can use your Freestyle 1025 for a variety of functions: to listen to your messages; delete, skip for war d or backward; and r ecord a memo or new outgoing message.
21 ANSWERING MA CHINE 1 T o hear main menu. 2 T o play all messages. 3 T o play new messages. 4 Skip back during messages. 5 T o delete during messages. 6 T o skip for ward during messages. 7 T o r ecord a new memo. 8 T o play the outgoing message. 9 T o r ecord a new outgoing message.
22 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o skip forward or backward through messages at the handset When playing back messages, you can skip for war d to the next message or backward to the star t of the cur rent or previous message. Press the SCREEN/MENU button to hear main menu.
23 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o set the security PIN code A new security code can only be set via the handset. Press the SCREEN/MENU button. Press the 0 button. T o set a new security PIN code pr ess ✱ . Press the # button to hear security code. Enter a 3-digit code after you hear the beep.
24 ANSWERING MA CHINE T o record a memo Press the SCREEN/MENU button. Press the 7 button. The Fr eestyle 1025 announces: “Please speak after the tone” . Y our Freestyle 1025 display shows: ‘ r ’ Press the # button to end recor ding. When you have completed your memo, your Freestyle 1025 announces: “To hear main menu, press 1” .
25 R emote ac cess Control your answering machine from another phone using a T ouchT one TM keypad Y ou can tur n your Freestyle 1025 answering machine on and of f and listen to your messages from any TouchT one TM telephone. T o pr otect your privacy , messages can only be accessed by entering a 3-digit security code.
26 Operating the answering machine When you have accessed your answering machine, you can operate using the keypad numbers on the phone you are using. The main menu The main menu lets you operate a range of answering machine functions.
27 F r eest yle 90/1 30/1025/1 200 A dditional Handsets Y ou can buy and use up to 3 Freestyle additional handsets with your Freestyle 1025 to extend your phone system, without needing to install extension sockets for each new phone.
NO TE Y our additional handset must be placed on the base unit within 5 seconds of the IN USE light flashing. NO TE Y our Freestyle additional handset is pre-set to handset number 2. NO TE Make a note of the identification number by writing it on the handset’s director y label.
29 While on a call (ie. in talk mode): Press the SECRECY button. KEYP AD Enter the number of the handset you want to transfer the call to. The specified handset will ring. T o answer the call, pr ess the T ALK button. T ransferring calls between handsets NO TE If you do not hear a dialling tone after pressing the T ALK button, wait a few seconds.
Help If you have any problems using your Freestyle 1025, this section will give you the most common, easy-to-follow solutions. • No dialling tone. • T elephone will not dial out. • T elephone cannot receive calls. • Beeps six times and drops calls.
31 T elephone pr oblems Possible cause Solution • Base unit rings too loudly / softly. Base unit setting is too High or Low . Set the ringer setting accordingly . • Base unit does not ring but lights show on base unit. Telephone is not connected to the telephone line.
32 • Call appears to have been cut off after pressing the SECRECY button. Y ou may have pr essed a number key on the handset after pressing the SECRECY button. The cur rent handset will tr y to transfer the call to another handset. W ait 30 seconds; the call will r etur n to the cur rent handset.
33 Answering Machine problems Possible cause Solution • Will not record incoming messages. • Will not answer calls. The answering machine is switched of f. The answering machine is full. Switch the answering machine on manually or by remote control.
34 T echnic al information How many phones can you have? All items of telephone equipment have a Ringer Equivalence Number (REN), which is used to calculate the number of items which may be connected to any one telephone line. Y our Freestyle 1025 has a REN of 1.
T ransmission frequencies of available channels: Safety advice Don’t use your Freestyle 1025 in the open air during thunderstor ms. Unplug it from the telephone line and the mains socket when there are stor ms in your area. Don’t use your Freestyle 1025 outdoors in the rain, or handle it with wet hands.
36 Maint enanc e Installing a handset battery pack and recharging Replacing the handset on the base unit to recharge over night should keep the Freestyle 1025 operative for nor mal use. In time, the handset batter y pack will no longer hold a suf ficient charge and should be replaced.
37 Care of rechargeable battery pack • When you first install the Freestyle 1025, or replace the batter y pack, the handset must be fully charged for 24 hours before use. • T o maintain optimum charge and batter y condition, the handset should be allowed to fully discharge about ever y 4 months.
Drill 2 holes for the screws and inser t the wall-plugs provided (if r equired). Drive the screws into the wall, leaving about 4mm free on which to mount the bracket and base unit. Make sure that the power supply and the telephone cables are connected to the base unit, then fit the cables into the channels on the bottom of the base unit.
