5. NetW are Network.
5.1 System Architecture We implemented NetW are printe r sharing functionality i nto the print ser ver it self, thus allowing one or more pri nters attached by a print server to be connec ted to the network. W e have developed the prin t server to support NetW are print server .
Printing performa nce is enhanced. Relieve NetW are file server ’ s burden. Relieve the need of a work st ation running the remote printer utilit y . Improve productivity by loca ting the printer near the workgroup. Each pr int server s hould log into a NetW are server before servicing t he print jo bs.
5.2 NetWare 3.x/4.x/5.x Inst allation & Setup Once your print server i s connected to your Ethernet network, you can set it up fo r use with your networking software. 5.2.1 Installati on Using P CONSOLE 5.2.1.1 Configuring as Print Server Mode 1.

16. Repeatedly p ress Esca pe to exit the PCONSOLE program. 17. Reset the print server to have the changes t ake ef fect. NOTE: If the pr int server y ou have is w ith mult iple pr inter connectors, you may create multiple prin t queues and printer objects.
6. UNIX System Network.
6.1 Introduction The print server is available for TCP/ IP printing by Unix LPD (Line Printer Daemon) protoc ol. The LPD protocol originated with Unix rel ease is based on the BSD v ersion of Unix and supported unde r most versions of Unix.
6.2 Enable Print Server’s TCP /IP Support The default configuration of the print server i s with TCP/IP support enabled. Anyway , yo u can configur e the pr int server to enable TCP/IP supp ort using the configur ation program.
6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server must have a un ique IP addres s in order to be recognized by the network. Y ou can set up the IP add ress on the various Unix systems using any one of the following methods: 1. ARP & Ping Assignment (Recommend for Unix) 2.
(the Node ID is printed on the rear side of the print server) Assign IP address: 203.66.191.12 arp –s 203.66.191.12 00-00-B4-01-01-01 ping 203.66.191.12 At the mean t ime, print server ’ s IP will “temporarily” be set to 203 .66.191.12 (will re store after reboot).
6.3.3 BOOTP If you have the BOOTP da emon, bootpd, running on your UNIX system that i s accessible by the print s erver , you can use the BOOTP protocol to set up the IP address of the print server . W e reco mmend that the BOOTP server should be located on the s ame subnet as the print server .
Lines should be indented wi th tabs . Where hostname is the devi ce name of a print server , the ht=1 tag specifies the ha rdware type is Ethernet, the ha= tag specifi es th e Ethernet address of a print server , which is the Node ID located on the print server .
6.3.4 RARP The procedure below en ables the R ARP daemon running on your system to respond to a RA RP r equest from the print server and to as sign the IP address to the print server . 1. Log in the host of RARP server as the superuser (root). 2. Assign a name cor resp onding to the print server ’ s IP address.
6.4 Verify Print Server’s IP Address T o verify that your print serv er is responding to the newly assigned IP address us ing a PING command: ping ip-address.
6.5 Configure Remo te lpd Printing on the Host The procedure you use to conf igure your Unix host(s) to allow printing to your networ k remote print server varies between dif ferent varieties of Unix. The procedure below can be used for Unix vari ants that are relate d to BSD Unix, such as SunOS or Linux.
mkdir /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chown daemon /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chgrp daemon /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chmod 775 /var/spool/lpd/pserverd 3. Add an entry to the host ’ s /etc/printcap fi le, simila r to the following: printer -name: :lp=: :rm=203.
The rp= entry should correspon d to the port nam e of the remote printer . The values shou ld be one of lpt1, lpt2 or lpt3 depends on th e printer port.
6.6 Print a Test Page T o print to the print ser ver , you can use the lpr comm and: lpr -Pprin ter-name fi le ... or , you can use the lp comma nd on SCO Open Server: lp –d printer-name file ... Where printer-name is one of the names for the printer in the /etc/printcap f ile, which you crea te d in the previous step.
