Software and configuration utilities 35 So f t w ar e and conf i gur ati on u tiliti es In this section Server blade depl oyment tools .................................................................................................. ............... 35 Configuratio n tools .
Software and configuration utilities 36 • Remotely boot a host server blade to a virtual me dia image to perform a ROM upgrade or install an OS. • Send alerts from iLO 2 regardless of the state of the host server blade. • Access advanced troubleshooting features provided by iLO 2.
Software and configuration utilities 37 • Ethernet NIC with 10/100 RJ-45 connect or • TCP/IP networking and an IP address compatible wi th one of the following: the iLO 2 Diagnostic Port IP addres.
Software and configuration utilities 38 Deployment methods Three primary deployment methods are supported: IMPORTANT: To deploy a server blade without the RDP, create a bootable diskette or image of a bootable diskette.
Software and configuration utilities 39 CD-ROM deployment CD-ROM deployment involves using a bootable CD that executes scripts to configure the hardware and install the OS. After the OS is conf igured, the server blade can access the network to locate the scripts and files necessary for deployment.
Software and configuration utilities 40 Diskette image deployment To deploy with a diskette image, the user create s a DOS-based network -enabled boot diskette that executes a script that configures the hardware and in stalls the OS. The diskette enables the server blade to access the required deployment scripts and files on the network.
Software and configuration utilities 41 Con fig ura tio n to ol s SmartStart software SmartStart is a collection of software that optimizes single-server setup, providin g a simple and consistent way to deploy server configuration. SmartStart ha s been tested on many ProLiant server products, resulting in proven, re liable configurations.
Software and configuration utilities 42 IMPORTANT: RBSU automatically saves settings when you press the Enter key. The utility does not p rompt you for confirmation of setti ngs before you exit the utility. To change a selected sett ing, you must select a different setting and press the Enter key.
Software and configuration utilities 43 • Suggests the optimum configura tion for an unconfigur ed system • Provides different operating modes, enabling fast er configuration or greater contr ol o.
Software and configuration utilities 44 10. Press the F10 key to confirm exiting RBSU. The server will automatically reboot. Opti on R O M C onf igur ati on f or Ar r a y s Before installing an operating system, you can use the OR CA utility to create the first logical driv e, assign RAID levels, and establish on line spare configurations.
Software and configuration utilities 45 • Remotely power up, power down, or reboot the host server. • Send alerts from iLO 2 regardless of the state of the host server. • Access advanced troubleshooting featur es through the iLO 2 interface. • Diagnose iLO 2 using HP SIM throug h a web browser and SNMP alerting.
Software and configuration utilities 46 HP ProLiant Essentials Virtualization Management Software The ProLiant Essentials Virtual Machine Management Pa ck and ProLiant Essentials Server Migration Pack plug-ins extend HP Systems Insight Manager capabilities to manage virtual machines.
Software and configuration utilities 47 Safety and security benefits When you flash the system ROM, ROMP aq writes ov er the backup ROM and saves the current ROM as a backup, enabling you to switch easily to the alte rnate ROM version if the new ROM becomes corrupted for any reason.
Software and configuration utilities 48 Survey Utility Survey Utility, a feature within HP Insight Diagnostics (on page 47 ), gathers critical hardware and software information on ProLiant server blades. This utility supports operatin g systems that may no t be supported by the server blade.
Software and configuration utilities 49 For installation information, refer to the H P ISEE Client Installation and Upgrade Guide ( ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/services/h ardware/info/isee_client.pdf ). Web-Based Enterprise Service WEBES enables administrators to manage hardware ev ents proactively, either locally or online.
