5 Shared Storage Cabling This p a rt of the guid e define s the allowable cabling c o nfiguratio ns fo r cluste r s using the HP N etServer LXr 8000 and Hig h Av ailability Disk Array Model 30/FC. Only these cabling config urations and cables are supported.
6 Basic Configurat i on w ith Cascaded Fibre Channel A rbitrated Loop Hubs See Shared Storage Cables for a list of cables that can be connected to the Short Wave Ports of the hub. Port connections to these hubs are for example only. You can use any port, except for port 10 on Long Wave Hubs.

HP NetServer Installation Guide 34 Disk Administrator, A ll Disk Array s Partitioned and Committed A ssign Drive Letter s Disk Adminis trator has assigned seq ue ntial and temporar y drive letters to the disk arra ys you partitioned. You must assign a permanent (static) drive letter to each driv e you want to make available to both Systems A and B.

Format Logical Drives 1. Click a disk bo x to select o ne of the arrays that you just pa rtitio ned and assig ned a drive letter.

Setu p prompts y ou for the clu ster domain account. Provi de a user name and password f or an appropriate Microsoft Domain account for the clu ster.

4 Ov ervi e w Introduc tion An HP NetServer cluster p r o vides a reliable, cabinet-mounted , increa sed-availabilit y so lution for critical ap p lications. The basic clus ter consis ts of tw o HP NetServer sys tems coupled t o an HP Fibre C hannel Arbitrat ed Loop (FC- AL ) hub connected to an HP A 3661B Model 30/FC High Availability Disk Array.
5 1 – What’s Needed? Fibre Channel ID s During HP Model 30/FC High Availability Disk Array installation, be prep ared to supply one Fibre Channel ID for each FC-AL conn ection betw een an HP FC- AL hub and an SP on an HP Model 30/FC Hi gh Avail ability Disk Array .
6 2 – HP NetServer H ardw are Setup Install the FC I/O A dapter 1. Install the FC I/O A dapter in the PCI Slot Install the FC I/O adapter in an appropriate PCI slot as specified in the Configu ration Guide for the HP NetServer. Installation steps are shown for both v ertical and horizontal installations.
7 2. Install the GBIC a. Locate the short-wave GBIC (Gigabit In terface Converter) included in the FC I/O adapter kit. b. Install the GBIC into the receptacle on th e FC I/O adapter (see figure 2). NOTE T he GBIC can only be installed one way , because the GBIC and guide rails inside the FC I/O adapter receptacle are key ed.
8 3 – Shared S torage Hardw are Setup Install the HP FC-AL Hub 1. Unpack the H P FC-A L Hub a. Unpack and in spect the HP FC-AL hub for any dam age that may have occu rred during shipm ent. b. Save the boxes and pack ing materials in case there is damage or anything needs to be reshipped at a f uture date.

10 2. Verify HP FC-AL Hub Operation Test the HP FC-AL hub and verify that it operates before m ounting it in the cabinet (also called a rack ). a. Perform a self- test by conn ecting the short- wave l.
11 3. Mount the HP FC-AL Hub into the Cabinet The HP FC-AL hub moun ts in to the HP E3662A or E3662B 2 .0m high, 19- inch wide, 220VAC , EIA cabin et (also call ed a rack). The foll owing procedu re describes m ounting an HP FC-A L hub with it s front pan el facing th e rear of th e cabinet.
12 g. Set the HP FC-AL hub on the cabinet. Align the hole in each mounting ear bracket with the holes in the assembled rail, nu t, and column , and inse rt a 10-32 x .625 m ac hin e screw. Securely t ighten the s crews (see figu re 7). Figure 7. Inst alling the HP FC-AL hub i nto the cabinet h.
13 Figure 9. HP FC-A L hub correctly installed in a cabinet If cascading HP FC-AL hubs are being used, install the second HP FC-AL hub, following the same steps used in installi ng t he first HP FC-AL hub. Do not attach Fibre Channel cables or pow er cords to the HP FC-A L hub at this time.
14 Install the HP Model 30/FC Hi gh Availa bility Disk A rra y 1. Check Po wer Requirements Refer to th e disk array DC pow er requirements in the R eference chapter of the Hewl ett-Packard Model 30/FC Hi gh Availability Disk Array Service Manual (part n umber A 3661-90002) t o m ake sure th e install ation si te meets th ese requirements.
15 The HP Model 30/FC High Availability Disk Array is rated to draw approximately 5amps at 230VAC steady state current for n ormal operation. However, wh en powered on, th e disk array draws a heavy in-rush (su rge) current (u p to 115 amps for 10 to 12 m s) th at could trip stan dard indus trial circu it breakers.
16 i. Remove the disk array’s fron t bezel by grasping its sides and pulling straight out. If the bezel is diff icult to remove, use a small standard screwdriver to caref ully loosen the bezel at its four outside corners. Figure 10. Remov ing the front bezel 3.
17 c . Attach the mounting rails to the cabinet as shown (see figure 11). – Determine the location in the cabinet where th e disk array is to be mounted.
18 4. Install the HP Model 30/FC High A vailability Disk Array in the Cabinet a. Remove the fan pack f rom the back of the disk array. – Gra sp the fa n pac k hand le. – Press the lock/ unlock b utton and ho ld it do wn. – Carefully sw ing the fan pack down.
19 b. Rem ove the batt ery backup un it (BBU) from the back of the di sk array. – Locate the BBU. It is above the pow er supply units. – Gra sp the BB U by inser tin g your thu mbs i n t he hole s a nd your fo r efinge r s into t he latc hes. – Slide the latches i nward and ho ld .
20 c. Rem ove the power s upply units from the back of the disk array – Gra sp a po wer suppl y unit b y its hand le . – Squeeze the latch toward the handle. – Pull the po wer supply unit out of t he chassis. – Repeat f or the oth er power su pply units.
21 d. Mount the disk array chassis into the cabinet. WARNING The disk array is very heavy. Use extreme care when moving or lifting it. At least two person s are needed to lift and sa fely install a disk arra y into a cabinet.
22 e. Unpack and install the disk modules. CA UTI ON Handle d isk mo d ules ve r y care full y as they ca n be damaged easil y by sho ck and vibratio n. Strap the ESD wrist strap to your wrist and gro und it to the disk arra y chassis (or suitable gro und).
23 f. Replace the power supply units. – Locate the slot where the power supply unit is to be installed. – Slide each power suppl y unit into its slot while squeez ing the latch until it enga ges t he connector. – Press firmly unt il the po wer supply unit seat s fully into the ch as sis.
24 i. Reinstall tri m. – Install the 1/2 U f iller panel (part num ber A3661-00003) to th e bottom of the disk array’s f ront bezel using fou r of th e screws (part num ber 2680-0273) f rom t he hardware moun ting kit . – Reinstall the disk array’s front bezel.

26 4 – Cluster Cabling and Setup 1. Plan the HP FC-A L Hub Connections The HP NetServers shoul d be powered down when making th e FC-A L connections to th e FC I/O adapters.

28 5. Connect the HP Model 30/FC High Av ailability Disk Array to the HP FC-A L Hub The external Fibre Channel conn ectors link the disk array to an HP FC-A L hub through fiber optic cables. These connectors are located at the back of the disk array , on the Fibre Channel Interconnect (printed circu it assembly).

31 6. Verify FC-AL Cabling Correct cabling example , HP FC-AL short-wave hub (HP A 3724A) In a cascaded conf iguration of HP FC-AL short-wave hubs, use a short- wave cable to connect any port on the first HP FC-AL hu b to any port on th e second HP FC-A L hub.
32 Incorrect cabling examples Do NOT cable together tw o ports on the same HP FC-AL hub. Ports between the two con nections will be eliminated from th e FC-AL l oop.
33 Nonsupported cabling example Connectin g an HP FC-AL hub to more th an one oth er HP FC-A L hub is NOT a supported con figurat ion. Figure 34. 35 6 – Shared S torage Sof tw are Setup Install the Fibre Channel Driver on Window s NT The Hewlet t-Packard Model 30/FC Di sk Array and the cabin et shou ld be powered dow n at th is tim e. To install the Fibre Channel driver Windows NT, perform the following steps on each HP NetServer in the cluster: a.
36 Power Up the HP M odel 30/FC Hi gh Av ailabil ity Disk A rra y 1. Connect the D isk Array ’s Power Cord NOTE T he correct right-ang le power cord must be used. If an incorrect pow er cord is used, the fan pack cannot be opened w ithout pow ering down the di sk array an d disconn ecting th e power cord.
37 4. Power Up t he Disk A rra y Turn on the disk array’s power by setting the POWER sw itch on the back of the unit to ON. The green POWER- ON LED on the front of the disk arra y will light up and the fans will ro tate. On a disk array fully loaded with 30 disk modul es, allow 8 t o 10 minu tes for all the disk modules to s pin up.

39 Set the HP Model 30/ FC High Availabilit y Disk Array Opera ting Mode The disk array is shipped from the factory with auto-trespas s, which is one of the host m ode paramet ers, turn ed on. Auto-trespass must b e turned off for the dis k array to operate correctly on the Microsoft Windo ws NT op erating system.
