1 This document is intended to answer the most frequently asked questions regarding the HP iP A Q rx3000 series Mobile Media Companion. For complete setup and installation instructions, refer to the Getting Started document in the box or the User’ s Guide located on the Companion CD.

4 ❏ If the CD doesn’t start automatically (auto run), click Start > Run. T ype D: (where D is the location of your CD-R OM dri ve) in the Open: te xt box and click OK.
5 4. When the Set Up a Partnership screen is displayed, select Standard Partnership and click Next. 5. When the New Partnership screen displays, select Synchronize with this desktop computer , then click Next.
6 6. When the Select Number of Partnerships screen displays, choose whether you want to synchronize with one computer or two (e.g., home and of fice). 7. When the Select Synchronization Settings screen displays, check the items you want to synchronize between your HP iP A Q and your personal computer .
7 8. When the Setup Complete screen displays, click Next. Acti veSync starts to synchronize. Do y ou w ant t o lear n mor e about: ■ setting up a guest partnership? ■ setting up a partnership with.
8 If you get this error: 1. Make sure the desktop cradle or sync cable USB connector is securely connected to your personal computer . 2. Once the connection issue is resolved, Acti v eSync begins synchronizing automatically . If Acti veSync does not be gin synchronizing, start it manually .
9 Ho w Do I Regain Func tionalit y if My HP iP A Q Loc ks Up or Runs Slo wly (P er form a Soft “Normal” Reset)? A soft reset does not erase any programs or sa ved data. Before performing a soft reset, be sure to sav e any unsa ve d data since any unsa ved data will be lost.

T ap Start > Settings>T oday . Note: The built-in HP Photosmart camera is a vailable only in select HP iP A Q models.
12 Ho w Do I Maximize Ba t ter y Life? There are a number of ways to make sure your battery lasts as long as possible between charges. Y ou can use as man y as necessary to maximize your battery life.
13 Ho w Do I Vie w P ic tures T ha t I Hav e Alr ead y T ak en? T o view pictures using your HP iP A Q, follo w these steps: 1. From the Start menu, tap Programs > HP Image Zone. 2. T ap a thumbnail (i.e., a small representation of a larger image) to select the picture.
14 Note: The built-in HP Photosmart camera is a vailable only in select HP iP A Q models. T o upgrade your model, please refer to the Accessories Brochure for information on the HP Photosmart Mobile Camera. T o view images in a dif ferent folder: 1. T ap File > Open.
15 T o turn off W i-Fi, tap the Wi- Fi button again. When W i-Fi is off, the W ireless LED is no longer blue and the W i-Fi b utton turns gray . Bat tery-S av ing Tip: When y ou are no t using Wi-F i, turn it off . When W i-F i is on, be sur e one of the po w er -sav ing modes is selected .
16 Option B: Public Hots pots If you want to connect to a wireless network at a public hotspot (such as a library or cof fee house), check with the establishment to find out what setting information you need.
17 3. Note: T o use iP A Q Mobile Media, you must select “W ork” to use the wireless network. F or more information about the iP A Q Mobile Media features, refer to the Special F eatures Guide .
18 4. If you are prompted for a Network K ey (WEP), enter the security settings for your network and tap Connect. Manual ly Connecti ng to a Wi rele ss Netw or k Networks you ha ve already conf igured are kno wn as preferr ed networks and are listed under W ireless Networks.
19 Note: If your network name is not listed, you need to add it to the preferred network lists. If W i-Fi is turned on, tap the Settings button then tap Add New ... from the Configur e Wi reless Networks list. Enter your network name, then choose if it connects to Wo r k or Internet.
20 Note: T o use iP A Q Mobile Media, you must select “W ork” to use the wireless network. F or more information about the iP A Q Mobile Media features, refer to the Special F eatures Guide . 4. T ap the Network Key tab, enter an y data encryption settings.
21 6. T ap OK. (Y our new netw ork is no w av ailable from the Conf igure W ireless Networks list.) 7. T ap OK to exit the Configur e W ireless Netw orks screen. Connec tin g to Hots pots Connecting to a hotspot in your local cof fee shop, at the airport, or other public places usually requi res a contract with the hotspot service provider .
22 Y our HP iP A Q comes with inte grated W i-Fi wireless networking. Ho wev er , to use the wireless features, you must also ha ve a working W i-Fi wireless network. The Media Control, Media Str eam, and Media Copy modes in iP A Q Mobile Media appear gray , when: ■ Y ou do not hav e a wireless network.
23 Note: In addition to setting up a wireless network, you must install the iP A Q Mobile Media for PC components on personal computers connected to your wireless network. T o install the Mobile Media for PC components, insert the Companion CD that came with your HP iP A Q into your personal computer .
24 If this is the first time you are connecting to your netw ork, please re view the “Ho w Do I Use W i-Fi?” in this document for help connecting to your network.
25 3. From pre vious screen, tap OK on Settings screen, then tap OK on the Connections screen. Then tap the Network Cards icon, choose your network name from the list and tap on it. V erify that it connects to Wo r k . 4. Select OK until you are back at the Launch page.
26 Note: All media servers and players are not simultaneously identified. It may tak e up to 30 seconds to identify av ailable media servers and players on your wireless netw ork. By selecting Refresh Ser vers and Play ers from the Wrench menu, you can manually scan your wireless home network for av ailable media serv ers and players.
27 Ho w Do I Use W ind o w s Media P la y e r to P lay Cop y-Protected M usic and Video on M y HP iP AQ? Music and video files are typically cop y-protected for two reasons: ■ Music and videos purchased from v arious online stores are encoded with copy protection (also kno wn as digital rights management or DRM).
28 ■ Just like the music that you purchase, this copy-protection restricts ho w many de vices that can play your media content. By default, W indows Media Player will add copy-protection to music that you copy to your personal computer .
29 6. Select Copy in the upper -right corner . Note: Y ou cannot use iP A Q Mobile Media to play copy-protected media in an y mode or use the Media Copy feature with copy-protected media.

31 Ho w Do I Protect My HP iP A Q Sc reen and C amera Lens from Damage or C r ac ki ng? Note: The built-in HP Photosmart camera is a vailable only in select HP iP A Q models. T o upgrade your model, please refer to the Accessories Brochure for information on the HP Photosmart Mobile Camera.
32 ■ Clean your HP iP A Q by wiping the screen, the camera lens, and the exterior with a soft, damp cloth lightly moistened only with water . Ä CAUTION: T o reduce the r isk of damage to the inter nal components, do not spr ay li quid dir ectl y on the scr een or allo w e xces s liqui d to drip inside y our HP iP A Q.
33 2. Insert the CD that came with your Palm de vice into your computer’ s CD-R OM driv e. Note: Microsoft Outlook must be set as your default e-mail program to properly synchronize with the Palm Desktop software.
34 Ho w Do I Print Wirelessly? Y ou can print only photos from your HP iP A Q using a W i-Fi, Bluetooth, or infrared printer . Note: The HP Image Zone software installed on your handheld supports the printing of photos.
35 6. T ap the Next button. 7. Select Conf igure, then tap Add. 8. Select the desired type of printer and tap Next. 9. Follo w the instructions on the screen to complete the configuration process for your printer . (Y ou will be prompted to enter specific details about your printer .
36 Note: Use of dial-up and wireless Internet, e-mail, corporate networks, and other wireless communications, such as Bluetooth-enabled de vices, may require separately purchased additional hardware a.
37 Ho w Do I Restore M y HP iP A Q Default Set tin gs an d Erase All My Da ta (P er form a Hard “F ull” Reset)? Perform a hard reset when: ■ Y ou want to clear all programs and data from main memory (where data and programs you hav e loaded are stored).
38 T o perform a hard reset: 1. Press and hold the iP A Q Mobile Media ( ) and iT ask () buttons on your HP iP A Q. 2. While holding the iP A Q Mobile Media and iT ask buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of your HP iP A Q for about three seconds or until the screen begins to f ade.
39 Ho w Do I Manage A v ailable St or age? Y our HP iP A Q normally manages main memory (default location) as av ailable space back and forth between storage memory (memory used to store data and document files) and program memory (memory used to run programs) as needed.
40 Option B: Usin g iP AQ File Store Files that are stored in iP A Q File Store are not deleted if the battery dies or if you perform a full (hard) reset. Note: The size of iP A Q File Stor e depends on the model of your HP iP A Q. Refer to the information below to determine the size of iP A Q File Store for your HP iP A Q.
41 Option C: Usin g Optional Stora ge Expansion Car ds There are a v ariety of storage expansion cards a vailable for purchase, such as Secure Digital (SD) cards or MultiMedia (MMC) cards. These cards can be installed in the Expansion Slot on the top of your HP iP A Q.
42 Option C: Remo ving Un used Programs T o permanently uninstall programs you have installed yourself: 1. T ap Start > Settings > System tab > Re move Prog ram s.
43 Ho w Do I Bac k Up a nd R est or e M y Data ? It is good practice to regularly back up the data in your HP iP A Q onto on your personal computer . This reduces the chance of having to re-enter lost information into your HP iP A Q.
44 3. In the Acti veSync T ools > Backup/Restore... > Restore tab . 4. Locate the backup file and click OK . Ho w Do I Determine if t h e Ba t ter y is Cha r g i ng ? If the battery is charging, the Po wer Indicator on the front of your HP iP A Q flashes amber .
45 Ho w Do I C hec k t he B at ter y Le v el? T o check the battery lev el, tap Start > Settings > System tab > Pow e r > M a in tab . Y ou can view the amount of battery po wer remaining for both the main battery and the backup battery .
46 Ho w Do I T ran sf er F i les f ro m M y P ersonal C omp uter to My HP iP AQ ? Y ou may want to take f iles you create on your personal computer with you on your HP iP A Q. T o do this: 1. On your personal computer , click Start > Pr ograms > Microsoft Acti veSync.
47 6. If your HP iP A Q is in the desktop cradle or attached to the sync cable, synchronization begins automatically , and a folder is created on your desktop which is named after the name you ga ve your HP iP A Q when you set up your partnership (for example, Pock et_PC My Documents).
48 Ho w Do I T ur n B lue to oth On and Off? Ta p t h e W ireless icon () o n t h e Launch Page or traditional To d a y Screen , and then tap the Bluetooth button. When Bluetooth is on, the Wire le s s LED on the top of your HP iP A Q turns blue. W ithin iP A Q W ireless, the Bluetooth b utton turns green when it is on.
49 Ho w Do I Inser t and Remo v e SD C ards from Expansion Slot? T o install a Secure Digital (SD) card into the expansion slot on the HP iP A Q: 1. Locate the slot on the top of the HP iP A Q.
50 Ä CAUTION: SD car ds must f irst be unloc ked be for e r emov al. Do no t try to pull SD car ds out of the e xpansion slot . Be sure to unlock the SD car ds bef ore r emo val . F ailur e to do so may damage the e xpansio n slot . Note: Expansion cards must be purchased separately and are not included with your HP iP A Q.
51 Ho w Do I F ind th e P rod uct ID, M odel ID and Se rial N umber of M y HP iP A Q? The Model ID and Serial Number for your HP iP A Q can be found on the label under the battery or in the Asset V iewer program.
