Abou t th e IE-iM cV-T1 -Mux/4 + Ethern et Overvi ew Th e IE-iMcV-T1- Mux/4 + Et hernet is a media conv erter th at transpo rts four independent T 1 lines over an existing single (or du al, “1+1”) standard fibe r optic line operating at an effective rate of 155Mbps.
The IE-iMcV-T1 -Mux/4 + Et hernet offers the follow ing feat ures: • Four T1 ports with RJ-48 connectors • One full ban dwidth Etherne t 10/100BaseT por t (specifi c model) • 1+1 prot ection s.
Product Applicat ion The IE-iMcV-T1 -Mux/4 + Ethern et delivers 4 T1 line s to a customer's site over a protected, dedicate d fiber line. In ad dition, one serial RS -232 line an d one 10/100BaseT E thernet line can be carried at t he same time.
configuration on the unit will b e used. The stored con figuration can b e retrieved fr om the SNMP Management M odule or the DIP S witches. • Replacing the same type of iMc V-Module - If the DIP .
1+1 Pr otecti on on the Fiber In terfac e mode The fiber transport is a 1+1 protection swi tched transport. It provides very fast (<50 mSec) switch-to-protec t timing by transmitting the sam e information on both fibers at the same time. The fiber receiver then chooses the fiber to receive based on the validity of the line.
iView² Ma nagement Soft ware iView² is the I MC Networks management s oftware designed specific ally for the IMC Networks “iMc V” family of module s. It features a GUI and gives network managers the ab ility to monitor and co ntrol th e manageable I MC Networks product s.
LED Operation The IE -iM cV-T 1-M ux/4 + Ethe rne t featu res di agn osti c LED s as explained below. 10/100BaseT C onnector LNK: • OFF when port is not linked/connected • Glow s green when link.
SFP Ports or One model offers two SFP (A and B) por ts for 1+1 protecti on; a second mo del offers one SFP without protection. ACT: • Glows green when the SFP port is th e acti ve receive li ne.
DIP Swit ch Assignme nts DIP Swit ch Assignme nts A single 10-pos ition DIP Switch is located on t he unit to set the configuration . The switc h positi ons are define d as foll ows: Switch # Functi.
Installat ion Instruct ions Each IE-iMcV-T1-Mu x/4 + Ethernet module re quires two slots in an iMedia C hassis Series, MediaChassis/2 Series, or IE -MediaChassis/2 series. To install the module in a chassis, remove the bl ank faceplates coveri ng the slots whe re the module is to be installed.
Configu ration Opt ions The following sections describe the configurable features. From the CLI "Unit Configura t ion," use th e "Factory Defaul t" co mmand to rest ore the unit's default settings in the CLI, under Unit C onfiguration.
Fiber Fault Loopback (FFL) When a Fiber LOS is detecte d, the unit sen ds a Remote Alarm Indi cation) back to the fiber in the opposite dire ction. The re ception of fault in dication on the fiber line inhibits sending a LINK signal to the Ethernet port.
Loopback Each T1 port can be tested in loopback mode by enabling eithe r a Host loopback or Remote loopback test pa th. This capability allows the en d-user to help troublesho ot and isola te syste m problem s such as impr oper/broken line terminations, cables or malfunctioning equipment.
Console Screen s Configur ation Using the Console Port The following section describes configurat io n using the console screens. The Remote modu le is on ly confi gured th rough th e Host.
Main Menu From the main menu, the end-user can vie w essential unit configur ation data and a clock indicating when the displaye d information was last refreshed.
The screen displays the current status for items 1 through 8. For security re asons, the curren t use rna me an d pas swo rd are not displ aye d. For items 1 thr ough 8, enter the nu mber of the menu item t o be changed, an d then enter the new value w hen prompted.
SFP Line Status Screen The SFP Line Status screen displays the status of the Host and Remote SFP links. The de tai led SFP information may be vie wed by entering "1" for SFP A or "2" for SFP B. Displayed data includes the ma nufacturer name, code, part number an d revision number.
Enter th e number of the menu item to change its co nfigur ation, and then enter th e new val ue(s) w hen pr ompted. Ethernet Port Stat us Scree n This screen displays the current Eth ernet port stat us for both the Ho st and R emote site.
Host T1 Port Setup Screen Enter th e number of the menu item to ed it, and enter the new value( s) when pro mpted. T1 Po rt St atus Scre en Use this screen to display the current status for each of the four T1 ports fo r the Host and Remote uni ts.
Fiber Op tic Port Verification As a tro uble shoo ti ng aid , the f iber opt ic por ts can be ver if ied by plac ing a phys ica l loopback optical line on the por ts and verify the LED behavior as shown: The AC T LED will arbitr arily be con figured to either the A or B fiber line.
T1 Po rt Verif ica tio n By placing a physical l oopback conne ction on the T1 port, a valid signal can be det ected by each ind ividual T1 port to verify it s opera tion.
T1 Port Ma ting Connector Pinout Th e followi ng table l ists th e pin co nfigura tion for t he st andard RJ-48 T1 port mating connectors. Pin Signal 1 Receive 1 (T ip in to unit) 2 Receive 2 (Ring.
RS-232 Serial Console Por t The fo llowing tabl e lists th e pin config urat ion for the RS-232 3-pin Mini Jack m ating connector for the console serial port.
Trouble shooti ng • All IE-iMcV-T1 -Mux/4 + Etherne t units are shipped c onfigured as Host un its via DIP Switch #1 = OFF. The Remote unit should be set to DIP Switch #1 = ON. Be su re to c onfirm that the iMcV-T1 -Mux/4 card is set correctly when used.
