3 HARD W ARE CONNECTIONS The LK7000 can be connected to an IBM101 P C , X T , A T or clone computer , PS/2 computer , or computer ter minal. The follo wing diagram shows how the keyboard connects to the computer and standard k e yboard or other k e yboard pe r iphe r al (magnetic st r ipe reade r , scanne r , etc.
FUNCTIONAL TEST For testing purposes, your LK7000 keyboard was pre-programmed with a template called LK7000 .TP L . The f oll o wing simple steps will v e r ify that the keyboard is in good working condition: 1 . 6 UTILITY DISK CONTENTS All LK7000 k e yboards come with a utility soft w are disk . This disk contains s e v e r al impo r tant files: LK7000D.EXE - Use this utility with or without the keyboard being attached.
7 S T A R TING THE LK7000D .EXE P R OGRAM This program can be used with or without the keyboard being attached to the computer. Note that the PC must be booted up in DOS before starting the program. It will not run properly under Windows DOS prompt. To start the program, type LK7000D at the LK7000 DOS prompt and press ENTER.
8 P R OGRAMMING THE LK7000 KEYB O ARD The following procedure will show you how to program your LK7000 with standard ( k e yboard) alpha n umeric cha r acter s . The k e yboard can be programmed with either ASCII or Scan code inf or mation. The default mode is the ASCII code mode.
9 5 . T ype S to s a v e the pro g r ammed data into the LK7000 directo r y . Y ou can select up to an 8 character name . It will be sav ed with a .TPL extension. 6. Press ESC to terminate the Data T ransf er Menu. 7. Press F10 follo wed by Y to e xit the utility program.
AD V ANCED PR OGRAMMING The LK7000 POS keyboard can be programmed with all special control and function keys such as the Shift, Ctrl, Alt, F1 through F12, and the up/ down/left/right arrow k eys. The procedure to program these special k eys is shown below: 1 .
SPECIAL FE A TURES OF THE LK7000 Besides being able to program all the keys of an IBM101 keyboard, the LK7000 has also inco r porated three state-of-the-a r t f eatures which will add flexibility and functionality to the keyboard.
MUL TI-LEVEL DEFINITION This f eature can increase the apparent number of programmab le ke ys b y allowing you to progr am different le v els into any cell. For e ver y diff erent lev el you prog ram you must select another k ey to be a “SHIFT LEVEL ” ke y .
8. Change the programming mode of this cell to the scan-code mode ( F8 ). Depress and hold the AL T ke y while depressing the letter A twice. T wo triangles inside brack ets will appear on the progr amming line. 9. T o use this f eature in your application is e xtremely simple.
SPECIAL CONFIGURA TIONS The keyboard can be set up with ma n y dif f erent pro g r amming option s . T o activate the configuration menu screen press F3. By depressing the high- lighted letter in each option, the program will enable or disable that option.
DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL CONFIGURA TION MENU F3 Send Break-code for scan-codes - Enab les or disab les the tr ansmission of break codes for each scan code programmed into the keyboard. Enable beep while a key pressed - Enables or disables the entire keyboard from beeping when any k ey is depressed.
DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL CONFIGURA TION MENU F3 (CONTINUED) Enable RS232 Output - Enables or disables the output of the keyboard to the RS232 por t (DB9 connector). If this option is set to YES then the protocol settings must be set to mirror the application softw are.
The LK7000 keyboard, working in conjunction with the LK7000 .EXE utility software, can perform the following powerful functions: * Save programmed data as a template file (.TPL) in both the keyboard and the hard drive of the computer . T o sav e programmed data to the ke yboard use the W (Wr ite to k eyboard) option of the Data T ransf er Menu.
PROGRAMMING THE KEYBO ARD 1.Use the utility software supplied to program up to 256 alphanumeric characters per k ey . Utility program will write to and read from computer disk memor y . 2. Keyboard supports computer control keys (Shift, CTRL, AL T , F1 through F12) and all arrow ke ys).
ADDENDUM SCANNER POSITION The LK7000 , a matrix programmable k e yboard with b uilt-in scanne r , was designed with the end user in mind. The scanner can be factory installed on either side of the keyboard, giving the end- user the versatility required in todays applications.
