2 [ 6 ] LPS-3 Mobile Inductive Loopse t The LPS-3 Mobile Loopset giv es people with T-coil equipped hearing aids the ability to make and receive calls without n oise interference. Also compatible with the Nokia 33 00, 3500, 8200, 8300 and 8800 series digital ph ones, the loopset gives hearing-impaired users clear access to digital telephony .

2 [ 8 ] Have the phone or accessory handy Whether you ’ re ca lling ab out your phone or an accesso ry , have the eq uipment with you when you call. For example, if you ’ re calling about a headset, please have it available.
[ 9 ] Before you begin 3 3 Befo re you beg in Before you begin , you need to pr epare your phone by installing the SIM card, and charging the battery . This chapter covers these topics as we ll as instructions on how to attach the optional he adset. Note: Y our service pr ovider supplies the SIM card and headset.
3 [ 1 0 ] • INSTALL THE BATTERY 1 Place the battery in the compartmen t with the label side facing u p and the golden contact area of the battery aligned with the contact prongs inside the phone. 2 Slide the battery until it snaps into place. Repla ce the ba ck cove r 1 Direct the back cover towards th e locking catches on the phone.
[ 1 1 ] Before you begin 3 • CHARGE THE BATTERY 1 Con ne ct th e ch ar ger to a sta nd ard wall outlet. 2 Con ne ct th e le a d fro m th e cha rge r to the bottom of the phone. 3 The battery power indicator (or battery bar) appears on the screen and starts scrolling.
3 [ 12 ] • The bars on the screen stop scrolling and remain constant when the phone is charged. If you le ave the phone connected to the charger , the battery receives an additional char ge .
[ 13 ] Before you begin 3 • SET UP YO UR HEADSET Y our phone may come with a headset you can use while talking on your phone. The headset provid es con venient handsfr ee use of the phone. Connect the headset 1 Plug the headset jack into the bottom of your phone.
3 [ 14 ] • REMOVE THE SIM CAR D If you ever need to take th e SIM card out of the phone, follow these steps. War n i ng : Keep all miniature SIM card s out of the reach of small children. 1 Remove the back cover and battery . See “ Remove the battery ” on page 12.

4 [ 16 ] Back On the back of your phone, you ’ ll find t he back cover release button and an inte rnal an t enna. • SWITCH O N YOUR PHONE • Press and hold the power key for abo ut 2 se cond s. The phone may ask for a Personal Identification Nu mber (PIN) or a security code.
[ 17 ] About your phone 4 • ABOUT THE ANTENNA Tip: Y our phone has a built-in antenna. As with any other radio transmitting device, do not touch the an tenna unnecessarily when the pho ne is switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may caus e the phone to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed .
4 [ 18 ] • AB OU T I ND I C ATORS AND IC O NS On your phone, you have two types of identifiers: i ndicators and icons. Indicators Indicators show th e status of something. The phone u ses three types of indicators: • Signal strength indicator: Shows the strength of the signal to your phone.
[ 19 ] About your phone 4 Icons Icons are graphical representations of a specific item or situation. T he following table shows examples an d tells you what e ach icon means. Icon What it me ans Line 1 is selected for outgoing calls. Line 2 is selected for outgoing calls .
4 [ 20 ] Y ou have forwarded all voice calls received on line 1 . Y ou have forwarded all voice calls received on line 2 . Y ou have forwarded all voice calls received on lines 1 and 2 . The phone is ready for you to enter a response. There is a voice tag attached to a name in your phone book.
[ 2 1 ] Make and answer calls 5 5 Make a nd answer calls This chapter tells y ou how to make and receive calls and how to a djust certain options. • MAKE A CALL Check the signal strength The signal indicator on the left side of your phone ’ s screen shows the str ength of the network r adio signal.
5 [ 22 ] Adjust the earpiece volume during a call • To increase the volume of a call, press and watch the volume in dicator go up. • To decrease the volume, press and watch the volume indicator go down. If an accessory with its own loudspeaker is connected to you r ph one , th e volume keys adjust the volume for that accessory .
[ 23 ] Make and answer calls 5 • SILENCE AN INCOMING CALL Y ou can stop the ring for an incoming call by pressing Silence . Then, a nswer or decline the call. • REDIAL THE LAST-DIALED NUMBER Press twice. Dial any of the ten last- dialed numbers 1 Press .

7 [ 32 ] 7 Ent er let ters and numb ers Y ou can enter letters and numbers into your phone for a person ’ s name and phone number , writing a text message, and so on. Ther e are two ways to do this: • ABC mode, for ma king entries in the phone book and renaming caller groups.
[ 33 ] Enter letters and numbers 7 Depending on the selected display langu age, the following characters may be available. Note: Some networks may not support all language-dependent characters. Enter spaces and punctuation • To en te r a space , pre ss once.
7 [ 34 ] Enter numbers To ente r nu mbers, you c an: • Press and hold to switch to 123 mode. Pr ess the appropriate number key to enter a number . OR • While in ABC mode, press and hold the corresponding number key until the number appears. If you make a mistake: • Press Clea r to erase the n umber .
[ 35 ] Enter letters and numbers 7 • PREDICTIVE TEXT INPUT Predictive text input allows you to write messages much faster than th e ABC mode. With predictive text input, you only need to press each number key once for each letter . Y our phone uses a built-in dictionary to predict or guess what you ar e writing.
7 [ 36 ] T urn off predictive text • To switch from predictive text input to ABC mode, repeat steps 1 throug h 3 above, th en s el e c t Prediction off . OR • While writing the message, qu ickly press twice to switch between predictive text input and A BC mode.
[ 37 ] Enter letters and numbers 7 Add a new word to the dictionary If the word you are trying to enter does not show up as a possible match, you can add the word to the dictionary . 1 Press repeatedly until Spel l appears in place of Optio ns . 2 Press Spell , th en en t er the wor d (s) using AB C mode.
7 [ 38 ] Insert symbols 1 Press and hold until the symbol screen appears. OR Press Optio ns , scroll to Inser t sy mbol then press Select . 2 Scroll to the desired symbol and press Inser t . Insert numbers 1 To add a number to the message, press and hold .

[ 47 ] Check call history 9 9 Check c all hi st ory Y our phone provides a ca ll log that r egisters information abou t calls you make and receive. Th e call log keeps track of th e following: • Missed calls • Rec e ived calls • Dialed calls • The amount of dat a sent and received over GPRS.
9 [ 48 ] • CHOOSE OPTIONS IN CALL LISTS When you view the missed calls, r eceived calls, or dialed calls list and press Optio ns , the following choices may appear . Note: Not all options will appear each time. Also, the order of options may var y .
[ 49 ] Check call history 9 • CLEA R CAL L LIS TS This feature clears all th e missed, received, and dialed ca ll lists. Caution: Y o u cannot undo this operation. 1 Press Menu 2 4 ( C all log > Clea r call list s ). 2 Scroll to All , Missed , Re ceive d , or Dial ed then pre ss Select .
9 [ 50 ] Reset call timers to 0 Note: The life timer cannot be reset. 1 Press Menu 2 5 ( C all log > Call timers ). 2 Scroll to Clear ti mers , then press Select . 3 Enter your secu rity code, then pr ess OK . Show call timer during a call 1 While in a call, press Opti ons .
[ 5 1 ] Check call history 9 • MANAGE CALL COSTS This network service allows you to ch eck call costs. Y ou can view the last call cost, or the total cost of all calls made or received since th e counters were reset. Contact your service provider for availability and instructions.

[ 55 ] Advanced calling features 10 • USE 1-TOUCH DIALING Assign a name and number to a 1-touch dialing location so that when you press this key , the phon e automatically dials the associated number . 10 [ 56 ] Erase 1-touch dialing numbers 1 Press Names . 2 Scroll to 1-touch dialing and press Select . 3 Scroll to a key that you want to er ase and press Options . 4 Scroll to Erase and press Select . 5 Press OK to confirm. • USE ANYKEY ANSWER This feature allows you to press any key to answer an in coming call.

10 [ 60 ] Use call waiting This network service lets you receive an incoming call when you ’ re alr eady in a call. The phone beeps to let you know of the incoming call. [ 63 ] Use voice features 11 1 1 Use v oice features The voice features in your phone make communication more convenient. Y ou can check messages from friends o r business associates, record a voice tag for contacts in the pho ne book, and use voice di aling for handsfree operation .
11 [ 64 ] Wo r k with two phone lines If your particular SIM card supports it, your phone can have two ph one lines. Y our service provider can tell you if your SIM card allows the use of this feature and can give you access to two p hone lines.
[ 65 ] Use voice features 11 • USE VOICE DIALING Y our phone ’ s voice dialing feature allows h andsfree operation while you place a call. Before using this feature, you need to create entries in the phone book so you can associate a "voice tag" with a n ame and number .
11 [ 66 ] Add a voice tag to a phone book entry Important : Do NOT press Quit unle ss y o u w ant to cancel th e recording. The phone automatically stops r ecording, then replays and saves the voice tag. Make a call using voice recognition 1 From the Start screen, pr ess and hold Names .

12 [ 7 0 ] Set a timed profile Timed profiles can be u seful in preventing missed calls. For ex ample, if you attend an event that requires you to set your phone to the Sile nt profile, you may for get to return the phone to the No rmal profile after the event is over .
[ 7 1 ] P ers onalize your phone 12 • ACCESSO RY PROFI LE SETTINGS Y ou can use your phone with thes e Nokia accessories: • Headse t (HDC-5, HDE- 2 or HDB-5) • Car kit (CARK125 or CARK 134) • Loopset (LPS-3) • TTY ada p t e r (H D A- 9) Note: T he setting used with the car kit i s called Handsfre e .
12 [ 72 ] Set up the car profile If you are using your ph one with a Nokia-approved car kit, you can set lights to On (lights sta y on) or Automatic (after 1 5 seconds, lights turn off until the next key is pre ssed or the phone rings).
[ 73 ] P ers onalize your phone 12 1 First, connect the TTY/TDD via cable to the HDA-9 adapter . Next, plug the HDA-9 adapter into th e connector on the bo ttom of your phone, as shown in the illu stration. 2 Press Menu 4 6 4 1 ( Settings > Accesso ry sett i ngs > TTY/TDD > Use TTY ).
12 [ 74 ] RECEIVE A TTY /TDD CA LL Tip: Y ou may find it helpful t o use t he vibrating alert un der the Profiles m enu. See “ Customize a profile ” on page 68 for details. 1 Make sure the TTY/TDD device is connected to your phone. 2 Press to answer the call, then type your responses on the TTY/TDD.

12 [ 76 ] • ADD A WELCOME NOTE Y ou can add a welcome note that you r phone displays briefly each time you turn it on. 1 Press Menu 4 4 4 ( Setting s > Phone settin gs > Welco me n ote ). 2 Enter a no te, then press Option s . 3 Scroll to Save , then press Select .

12 [ 78 ] Set automatic update of date and time If this feature is supported by your wireless service pro vider, it au tomatically updates the clock in your phone in acc or dance with the current time zone.

12 [ 80 ] VIEW A RECEIV ED GR APHIC 1 When you receive a gra phic from someone els e, Group logo receiv ed appears. 2 To view the graphic, press Sho w . 3 After viewing the graphic, press Options and then choose: • Save t o s av e it (you must choose which caller group gets the new graphic) • Discard to delete it 4 Press Select .
[ 8 1 ] P ers onalize your phone 12 Rem o ve the b a ck cover 1 With the back of the phone facing you , press and hold the back cover release button. 2 Slide the cover up.
12 [ 82 ] Change the keypad 1 Lift the keypad from inside the old front cover . 2 Place the keypad into the new front cover . Replace the new front cover 1 To replace the front cover , align the top of the phone with the top of the f ront cover . Make sure both se ts of plastic tabs line up with th eir slots, as shown at right.
[ 83 ] P ers onalize your phone 12 Repla ce the ba ck cove r 1 Direct the back cover towards th e locking catch es on the phone. 2 Slide the back cover u ntil it locks into place.
