Insert the SIM card and battery Important: This device is designed to be used wi th a standard SIM card (see figure) only. Use of incompatible SIM cards may damage the card or the device, and may corrupt data stored on the card. Please co nsult your mobile operator for the use of a SIM card that has a mini-UICC cutout.
4 Lift the SIM card holder up. 5 Make sure the contact area of the SIM card is facing toward the phone, and slide the SIM card into the SIM card holde r. 6 Lower the SIM card holder into place. Slide the SIM card holder, to lock it. 7 Line up the battery contacts, and insert the battery.
8 To replace the cover, direct the top locking catches toward their slo ts, and press down until the cover locks into pla ce. If the SIM card is not properly in place, the phone can only be used in the offline profile. Insert a memory ca rd Use only compatible memo ry cards approved by Nokia for use with this device.
2 Make sure the contact area of a compatible memory card is facing down, and insert the card into the memory card slot. 3 Push the card in, until it locks i nto place. 4 Replace the back cover. Remove the memory card Important: Do not remove the memory card when an app is using it.
3W h e n Remove memory card and press 'OK' is displayed, remove the back cover of the device, and push the card in, until you hear a click. 4 Pull out the memory card, and replace the back cover.
1 Use a compatible USB data cabl e to connect your phone to a compatible USB device, for example, a computer. Depending on the type of the device that is use d for charging, it may take a whil e for charging to start. 2 If the phone is switched on, select the appropriate USB mode.
Settings wizard With Settings wizard, you can define e-mail and connection settings. The availability of the items in Settings wizard depends on the features of the device, SIM card, service provider, and the data in the Settings wizard database. Select Menu > Applications > Tools > Sett.
Lock the keys and touch screen To lock the touch screen and the keys, pres s the lock key on the side of the de vice. To unlock, press the lock key on the side of the device, and select the unlock icon on the screen. When the touch screen and keys are locked, the touch screen is switched off and the keys are inactive.

If the touch screen and keys are locked, ta pping the screen does not turn the screen backlight on. Change the ringing tone Select Menu > Settings and Personal > Profiles . You can use profiles to set and custo mise the ringing tones, message alert to nes, and other tones for different events, environments, or caller groups.

Lock your device remotely Write the predefined text message, and send i t to your device. To unlock your device, you need the lock code. Nokia Services With Nokia Services, you can find new places and services, and stay in touch with your friends.
Pressing the end key always ends a call, even if another application is active. To make a call from the contacts list, select Menu > Contac ts . Go to the desired name. Or, select the se arch field, enter the first letters or characters of the name, and go to the name.
End an active call and replace it with another incoming call Select Options > Replace . End all calls Select Options > End all calls . Many of the options that you can use du ring a voice call are network services. Voice mailbox To call your vo ice mailbox (network service), in the ho me screen, select Telephone , and select and hold 1 .
Conference calling is a network service . 1 Make a call to the first pa rticipant. 2 To make a call to anothe r participant, select Op tions > New call . The first call is put on hold. 3 When the new call is answered, to add the first participant to the conference cal l, select .
Call waitin g With call waiting (network service), you can answer a call when you have another call in progress. Activate call waiting Select Menu > Settings and Calling > Call > Call wa iting . Answer a wa iting call Press the call key. The first call is put on hold.
If several numbers are saved for a name, you can say also the name and the number type, such as mobile or tel ephone. Log The Log application stores information about the communication histo ry of the device.
Select Menu > Applicatio ns > Log and Call duration . Monitor all communication events In the general log, you can view information on communic ation events, such as vo ice calls, text messages, or data connections registered by your phone. Select Menu > Applicatio ns > Log .
When using the virtual keyboard in fu ll screen mode, you can select ke ys with your fingers. 1 Close - Close the vi rtual keyboard. 2 Input menu - Open the touch input options menu to access commands such as Writing language .
To enter letters and numbers (default mo de ), write words as you would normally. To select number mode, select . To enter non-Latin characters, select the corresponding icon, if availabl e. To enter special characters, write them as you would normally, or sel ect and the desired character.

Contacts You can save and update contact inform ation, such as phone numbers, home addresses, or e-mail addresses of your co ntacts. You can add a personal ringing tone or a thumbnail image to a contact. You ca n al so create co ntact group s, which allow you to send text messages or e-mail to many reci pients at the same time.
Assign default numbers an d addresses If a contact has several numbers or addresses, a default number or addres s makes it easier for you to call or send a message to the contact. The defaul t number is also used in voice dialling. 1S e l e c t Menu > Contacts .
When you open the contacts li st for the first time, the device asks if you want to co py names and numbers from the SIM card to your device. Start copying Select OK . Cancel copying Select Cancel . The device asks if you want to view the SIM card contacts i n the contacts list.
You need your PIN2 code to activate and deactivate fixed diall ing or edit your fixed dialling contacts. Co ntact your service provider for your PIN2 code. Select Options and from the fo llowing: Activate fixed diall ing or Deactivate fixed dialling — Activate or dea ctivate fixed dialling.
Write and sen d messag es Select Menu > Messaging . Before you can create a multimedi a message or write a mail, you must have the correct connection sett ings defined. If the item you insert in a multimedia mess age is too large for the networ k, the device may automatically reduce the size.
Send the message or mai l Select , or press the call key. You can send text messages that are lon g er than the character limit for a single message. Longer messages are sent as two or more messages.
Tip: The multimedia message is retrieved automatica lly if Multimedia retrieval is set to Always auto matic . Play the sound or vi deo clip Select the indicator. View the media objects that have been included in a multimedia message Select Options > Objects .
Set up e-mail using the Settings wizard 1S e l e c t Menu > Applica tions > Tools > Sett. wizard . 2 When the Settings wizard is opened for the f irst time, you are asked to define the e-mail settings after the se rvice provider settings. If you have used the Setti ngs wizard before, select E-mail setup .
Close the data connection to the remote mailbox Select Options > Disconnect . Retrieve e-mail messages Select Menu > Messaging and a mailbox. If you are offline, select Opti ons > Connect to open a connection to the remote mailbox.
The device mirrors the e -mail headers in the re mote mailbox. If you delete the message conten t, the e-mail header stays in your device. If you want to remove the header as well, you must be connected to the server when deleting the message from your device and the remote mailbo x.
Depending on your company's Mail for Exch ange server configuration, you may need to enter other information in addition to those listed. If you do not know the correct information, contact your company's IT department. With Mail for Exchange, the use of the lock code may be mandato ry.
Receive report — Request the network to send you a delivery report of the text messages you have sent (network servi ce). Message validity — Select for how long the message centre resends your message if the first attempt f ails (network service).
Manage mailboxes Select Menu > Messaging and Options > Settings > E-mail . Select which mail box you want to use to send and receive e-ma il Select Mailbox in use and a mailbox. Remove a mailbox and its mes sages from your device 1 Select Mailboxes .
Change the image displayed in the ho me screen when a call is received Select Call image . Profiles You can use profiles to set and customis e the ringing tones, message ale rt tones, and other tones for differe nt events, envi ronments, or call er groups.
Tip: When listenin g to music, you can return to the ho me screen and leave the Music player application playing in the background. Create a playlist Want to listen to diff erent music for diff erent moods? With playlists, you can create selections of so ngs to play in a spe cific order.
Podcasts Select Menu > Music > Music player and Podc asts . Podcast episodes have three stat es: never played, partially pla yed, and completely played. If the state is partially played, the episode plays f rom the last playback position the next time it is played.
To start using Podcasting, define yo ur connection and download settings. Connection settings Select Options > Settings > Connection and from th e follo wing: Default access p oint — Select the access point to use to connect to the internet.
You can download multiple episodes at the sa me time. Start playing a podcast before the downloa d is complete Go to a podcast, and select Options > Play preview . Successfully downloaded podc asts are stored in the P odcasts folder, but may not be displayed immediately.

Share online About Share online Select Menu > Applicatio ns > Share online . With Share online (ne twork service), you can post your ima ges, video cli ps, and sound clips from your device to compatibl e online sharing services, su ch as albums and blogs.
Create a post Select Menu > Applications > Share online . To post your images or vide o clips to a service, select and hold the service , and from the pop-up menu, select New up load . If the o nline sh aring ser vice pr ovides cha nnels for posting files, select the desired channel.
Connect to video services To connect to a service to install vi deo services, select Ad d new services and the desired video service from the service catalogue. View a video clip To browse the content of in stalled video servic es, select Video feeds .
Video centre automatically downloads new video clips daily at the time you define. To cancel scheduled downloads, select Manual download as the download method. Video feeds Select Menu > Applications > Video centre . The content of the installed video services is distributed using RSS feeds.
Copy your videos be tween your phone an d computer Have you recorded vide os with your phone that you want to watch on your computer? Or do you want to copy your videos fr om your phone to your computer? Use a compatible USB data cable to copy your videos between your phone and a computer.
Go to a website Select the web address bar, ente r a web address, and select . Tip: To search the internet, select the web address bar, e nter the search word, and select the link below the web address bar. Zoom in or out Double-tap the screen. A cache is a memory l ocation that is used to sto re data temporarily.
Update a feed In the Web f eeds view , select and hold t h e feed, and from the pop-up menu, sel ect Refresh . Set a feed to au tomatically up date In the Web f eeds view , select and hold t h e feed, and from the pop-up menu, sel ect Edit > Automatic updates .
Define an access point for A-GPS Select Menu > Applications > Location and Positioning > Positioning se rver > Access p oint . Only a packet data internet access point can be used for this service. Your device asks for the internet acces s point when GPS is use d for the first time.
Initially your device must receive signals f rom at least four sate llites to be able to calculate your location. When the i nitial calculation has been made, it may be possible to continue calculating your lo cation with three satellites. However, the accuracy is generally better when more satellites are found.
Landmarks With Landmarks, you can save the posi tion information of locations in y our device. You can sort the saved locations into dif fer ent categories, such as business, and add details to them. You can use your save d landmarks in compatible applications.

Night mode — Dim the colours of the map. When travelling at night, the map is easier to read in this mode. Transit lines — View selecte d public transpor t services, such as metro and tram routes. The available options and features may vary by regi on.
Find a location Maps helps you find specif ic locations and businesse s. Select Menu > Maps and Map > Search . 1 Enter search words, such as a street address or place name. 2 Select an item fr om the list of proposed m atches. The location is displayed on the map.
When you find a place that does not exis t or contains inappropri ate information or incorrect details, such as the wro ng contact informati on or location, it is recommended that you report it to Nokia. Report incorrect place information Select the place, its information area, Report , and the appropriate option.
1 Select a place and its i nformation area. 2S e l e c t Share > Share v ia SMS or Share via Email . A mail or text message containing a link to the location on the map is sent to your friend. Opening the link requires a network connection. Check in With the C heck in fe ature, you can kee p a priva te record of where y ou have be en.
To synchronise places or routes betwee n your phon e and the Nokia Maps internet service, you need to be signed in to your Nokia account. Select Menu > Maps . Synchronise saved places and routes Select Favourites > Synchronise with Ovi . If you do not have a Nokia account, you are prompted to create one.
Change the volume of the voic e guidance for car navigation In the navigatio n view, select Options > Volume . Drive to your d estination When you need turn-by-turn directions wh ile driving, Maps helps you get to y our destination. Select Menu > Maps and Drive .

You can also choose to allow or avoid using, for example, motorways, toll roads, or ferries. Connectivity Your device offers several options to connect to the internet or to another compatible device or PC. Data connections and access points Your device supports packet data connections (network service), such as GPRS in the GSM network.
2 The device asks to check for available co nnections. After the searc h, connections that are already available are shown a nd ca n be shared by a new access point. If you skip this step, you are asked to sele ct a connection method and to define the settings needed.

Security tips Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Bluetooth . When you are not using Bluetooth connectivit y, to control who can find your device and connect to it, select Bluetooth > Off or My phone's v isibility > Hidden . Deactivating the Blueto oth function does not affect o ther functions in your device.
Devices that do not have a user in terface have a factory-set passco de. The passcode is used only once. Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Bluetooth . 1 Open the Paired devices tab. 2S e l e c t Options > New paired device . Devices that are within range are displayed.
Remove a device from the blocked devi ces list Open the Blocked devices tab, se lect the device you want to remove from the list, and from the pop-up menu, select Delete . To search for web pages on the internet, select Search the Internet and a search provider, and enter your search terms in the search field. The search provider you selected is set as y our default internet search provide r.
Stop the alarm Select Stop . If your device is switche d off when an alarm expires, your device switches itself on and starts sounding the alarm tone. Set the alarm to snooze Select Snooze . Define the snooze time Select Options > Settings > Alarm snooze time .
Calendar toolbar Select Menu > Calendar . From the calendar toolbar, sele ct from the fo llowing: Next view — Select the month view. Next view — Select the week view. Next view — Select th e day view. Next view — Select the to-do vie w. New meeting — Add a new meeting reminder.
Password protect a memory card Select the memo ry card and Options > Memory card password . These options are available o nly if a compati b le memory card is inse rted in the device. Back up files Select Menu > Applications > Office > File mgr.
Only install applications that are compatible with your device . Install appli cations You can transfer installatio n files to your device from a compatible computer, downlo ad them du ring b rowsing, or receiv e them in a multim edia mes sage, as an e- mail attachment, or using other connectivity methods, such as Bluetooth connectivity .

RealPlayer With RealPlayer, you can pl ay video clips or stream media files over the air without saving them to the device fi rst. RealPlayer does not ne cessarily support all file formats or all the variati ons of file formats. Select Menu > Applicatio ns > RealPlayer .
Before live conte nt begins streami ng, your device co nnects to the s ite and starts loading the content. The content is not saved in your device. In RealPlayer, you can only open RTSP links. Howe ver, RealPlayer can also play a RAM file if you open a HTTP li nk to it in a browser.

To edit the settings, you can also select Options > Settings in each appl ication. Device updates With Device updates, you can connect to a server and receive configuration settings for your device, c reate new server profiles, view existing software ve rsion and device information, or view and manage existing server profiles.
