11 P ositioning speakers Speaker placement plays an important role in the reproduction of Surround sound. The placement of the speak ers varies depending on the size of the room and the wall cov erings used in the room. The illustration shows an e xample of a layout for standard speaker placement.
12 Making antenna connections Connecting the 300 ohm ribbon wir e: Loosen the screws and wrap the wire around these scre ws. Then tighten the screws with a scre wdri ver . Connecting the coaxial cable: 1. With your fingernail or a small scre wdriv er , press the stoppers outward and remov e the cover .
13 Making antenna connections Connecting the FM indoor antenna: The FM indoor antenna is for indoor use only . Extend the antenna and mov e it in various directions until the clearest signal is receiv ed. Fix it with push pins or similar implements in the posi- tion that will cause the least amount of distortion.

Press the P ARAMETER SELECTOR ® button to display the center speaker size parameter , and press the P ARAME- TER CONTR OLLER √ / ® b uttons to select “LARGE”, “SMALL” and “NONE. ” Note: If you hav e selected “SMALL” for the front speakers, you can select only “SMALL” or “NONE” for the center speaker .
16 Speaker setup 9. Press the P ARAMETER SELECTOR ® button to display the LFE LEVEL parameter , and press the P ARAMETER CONTR OLLER √ / ® buttons to set the value. Y ou can set the LFE LEVEL parameter for the Dolby digital or DTS playback. In general, leav e this parameter to 0dB.

18 Selecting a sound sour ce Follo w the steps below to adjust the le vel of each speaker if you hav e selected MUL TI CH INPUT . 1. Press MUL TI CH INPUT button on the r emote controller . Y ou cannot select any Surround mode. 2. Press the CH SEL b utton to select the desired speakers.
19 Selecting a sound sour ce SPEAKERS A: This button turns on or of f the speakers connected to the FR ONT SPEAKERS A, CENTER SPEAKER, SURROUND SPEAKERS and SUBWOOFER terminals. When the speakers are turned on, the SPEAKERS A indicator lights up. SPEAKERS B: This button turns on or of f the speakers connected to the FR ONT SPEAKERS B terminals.
20 T o enjo y Surr ound mode or Stereo mode This receiv er has six Surround modes. Select a suitable mode according to the type of music you are listening to, the media used, and your personal preference. The selected surround mode is auto- matically stored along with the selected source.
21 T o enjo y Surround mode or Stereo mode DOLBY PR O LOGIC This surround format consists of four channels (left and right front, center , and monaural surround channels) and emphasizes the cen- ter channel. This format is v ery effecti ve for panning music, con- versation, and three-dimensional sound mo vement output from three front channels.
22 T o enjo y Surround mode or Stereo mode If the input source is D VD, CD, VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, or T APE, you can specify the input signal format. The default setting is “ A UT O. ” Ho w- ev er , you can change this according to the signal format of the input source.

Mak e sure that you have made a correct analog connection. • Y ou cannot record the source connected to MUL TI CH INPUT jack. • If you select another device as the input source during recording, the input signal from that de vice will be recorded.
26 Recor ding a source V ideo disc programs can be recorded onto a VCR (VIDEO 2). 1. Load a disc in the video disc player or D VD player , and insert a blank tape in the VCR (VIDEO 2). 2. Press the VIDEO 1 or DVD b utton. 3. Start playing the video disc player and r ecording on the VCR.
