When Using an RI Dock: • Connect the RI Dock to the T APE IN or GAME/TV IN L/R jacks. • Set the RI Dock’ s RI MODE switch to HDD or HDD/DOCK. • Set the A V receiver/ A V amplifier’ s Input Display to DOCK (see page 50).

45 Fir st Time Setup This section explains the settings that you need to mak e before using the A V receiv er/ A V amplifier for the very f irst time. Carry out the settings for the A V receiv er/A V amplif ier by using the Onscreen Setup Menu.
46 First Time Setup —Continued If the impedance of any speaker is 4 ohms or more b ut less than 6, set the minimum speaker impedance to 4 ohms (not North American models). If you’ ve connected your front speak ers to the FR ONT SPEAKERS and SURR BA CK SPEAKERS terminal posts for bi-amping, you must change the Speak ers T ype setting.
47 First Time Setup —Contin ued If you connect your TV to the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT , set the HDMI Monitor setting to No so that the onscreen setup menus are displayed and composite video and S-V ideo sources are upconv erted* and output by the COMPONEN T VIDEO OUT .
48 First Time Setup —Continued HDMI Input Setup If you connect a video component to HDMI IN, you must assign that input to an input selector . For e xample, if you connect your D VD player to HDMI IN 1, you must assign HDMI IN 1 to the D VD input selector .
49 First Time Setup —Contin ued Component Vid eo Setup If you connect to a COMPONENT VIDEO IN, you must assign it to an input selector . For example, if you connect your D VD player to COMPONENT IN 3, you should assign it to the D VD input selector .
50 First Time Setup —Continued If you connect an -capable Onkyo MiniDisc recorder , CD recorder , or RI Dock to the T APE IN/OUT or GAME/TV IN jacks, for to work properly , you must change this se tting. This setting can only be changed o n the A V receiver/ A V amplifier.
51 First Time Setup —Contin ued If you connect a component to a digital input jack, you must assign that jack to an input selector . F or example, if you connect your CD player to the OPTICAL IN2 jack, you should assign that jack to the CD input selector .
52 First Time Setup —Continued Y ou must specify the TV system used in your area. Note: This procedure can also be performed on the A V receiv er/ A V amplif ier by using its [SETUP] b utton, arrow b uttons, and [ENTER] button. TV Format Setup (not North American models) 1 Press the [RECEIVER] b utton fol- lowed b y the [SETUP] button.
53 First Time Setup —Contin ued Y ou must specify the AM frequency step used in your area. Note that when this se tting is changed, all radio presets are deleted. Note: • This procedure can also be performed on the A V receiv er/ A V amplifier by using its [SETUP] b utton, arrow b uttons, and [ENTER] b utton.
54 First Time Setup —Continued W ith the supplied speaker setup microphone, the Audyssey MultEQ XT function can me asure the number of speakers connected, their sizes, crossover frequencies, and the distance from each speaker to the listening posi- tion and calculate the op timal speak er settings for your listening en vironment aut omatically .
55 First Time Setup —Contin ued 2 Put the speaker setup micr o- phone at measurement point (page 54), and connect it to the SETUP MIC jack. Notes: • Make sure the microphone is hori- zontal. • If there’ s an obstacle between the microphone and any speak er , the automatic setup wil l not work cor- rectly .
56 First Time Setup —Continued Notes : • When the automat ic speaker setup is complete, the Equalizer Settings (page 82) will be set to “ Audyssey . ” • Y ou can cancel the automatic speaker setup at any point in this procedure simply b y disconnecting the setup microphone.
57 First Time Setup —Contin ued Err or Messa ges While the automatic speaker setup is in progress, one of the following error messages may appear: ❏ Ambient noise is too high. This message appears if the background noise is too loud and the measurements cannot be performed properly .
58 First Time Setup —Continued Revie wing the Results Changing the Speaker Settings Manually In some situations, the measureme nts tak en by t he auto- matic speaker setup may not provide usable results.

61 Basic Operations —Continued Y ou can adjust the brightness of the display . Y ou can temporarily mute the output of the A V receiver/ A V amplifier. Tip: Y ou can specify how much the output is muted with th e Muting Le vel setting (see pag e 92).
62 Listening to the Radio (TX-SR705 onl y) W ith the built-in tun er you can enjoy AM and FM radio stations. Y ou can store your f av orite stations as presets for quick selection. Listening to the Radio T uning into Radio Stations ■ Auto T uning Mode When tuned into a station, the T UNED indicator appears.

64 Listening to the Radio (TX-SR705 only) —Continued RDS only works with European models and only in areas where RDS broadca sts are av ailable . When tuned into an RDS station, the RDS indicator appears. ■ What is RDS? RDS stands for Radio Data System and is a method of transmitting data i n FM radio signals.

DTS-HD High Resolu tion Audio Dev eloped for use with HDTV , including the new video disc formats Blu-ray and HD D VD, this is the latest mul- tichannel audio format from DTS.
73 Using the Listening Modes —Continued Onky o Original DSP Modes Mono Movie This mode is suitable for old movies and other mono sources. The center speaker outputs the sound as it is, while re verb is app lied to the sound output b y the other speakers, gi ving presence to e ven mono material.
74 Recor ding This section explains ho w to record the selected input source to a component with recording capability , and how to r ecord audio and video from dif ferent sources. Notes: • The surround sound and DSP listening modes cannot be recorded.
75 Ad v anced Operations W ith the Late Night function, you can reduce the dynamic range of Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby T rueHD material so that you can still hear quiet parts e ven when list ening at low v olume le vels—id eal for watching movies late at night when you don’ t want to disturb anyone.

78 Adv anced Setup —Continued Low-P ass Filter f or the LFE Channel W ith this setting, you can specify the cutof f frequency of the LFE channel’ s low-pass f ilter (LPF), which can be used to filter out unwanted hum. The LPF only applies to sources t hat use the LFE channel.
79 Adv anced Setup —Contin ued Double Bass W ith the Double Bass function, you can boost bass out- put by feeding bass sounds from the front left and right channels to the subwoofer . This function can be set only if the Subwoofer setting in step 4 is set to Y es, and the Front setting in step 5 is set to Full Band.
80 Adv anced Setup —Continued Speaker Distance Here you can specify the d istance from each speaker to the listening position so th at the sound from each speaker arri ves at the listener’ s ears as the so und designer intended.

Notes: • The speakers cannot be calibrated while the output of the A V receiver/ A V amplifier is muted.

89 Adv anced Setup —Contin ued Correcting Sound and Picture Sync When using progressi ve scanning on your D VD player, you may fi nd that the picture and sound are o ut of sync. W ith this sett ing, you can correct t his by dela ying the audio signals.
90 Adv anced Setup —Continued Name Edit Y ou can enter a custom name for each indiv idual input selector and radio preset for easy id entification. When selected, the custom name will appear on the display . 1 Select the input selector to which you want to give a custom name.

Y ou may want to turn this preference on if your TV is connected to the HDMI OUT and you want to listen to the audio from a component that’ s connected to an HDMI IN, through your TV’ s speakers.
96 Adv anced Setup —Continued Control This function allo ws CEC-standard-compatible equip- ment connected to HDMI and -compatible equipment to be operated together with the A V receiv er/ A V amplifier. Disable: HDMI Control disabled. Enable: HDMI Control enabled.
97 Adv anced Setup —Contin ued The digital input signal formats are av ailable only for the input sources that y ou hav e assigned a digital input jack; otherwise you will see “ Analog” indicated on the screen (see page 51). Normally , the A V receiv er/ A V amplifier detects the sig- nal format automatically .
