The A V receiv er won’t pick up any radio signals without any antenna connected, so you must co nnect the antenna to use the tuner .
17 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued Connecting an Outdoor FM Antenna If you cannot achie ve good re ception with the supplied indoor FM antenna, try a commercially a vailable outdoor FM antenna instead. Notes: • Outdoor FM antennas w ork best outside, but usable results can someti mes be obtained when in stalled in an attic or l oft.

19 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued By connecting both the audio and video outputs of your D VD pl ayer and other A V components to the A V receiv er, you can switch the audio and vide o signals simultaneously simply b y changing the input source on the A V receiver.
20 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued About HDMI Designed to meet the increased demands of digital TV , HDMI (High Definition Mu ltimedia Interface) is a new digital interface standard for connect ing TVs, projectors, D VD/BD players, set-top boxes, and other video components.

Changes to the room after auto setup requires you run the auto setup again, as room EQ characteristics may hav e changed.

Y ou can tempor arily mute the output of the A V receiv er. T o unmute the A V recei ver, press the r emote controller’ s [MUTING] b utton again, or ad just the volume.
40 Basic Oper ations —Continued 7 For pri v ate listeni ng, you can connect a pair of stereo headphones (1/4-inch phone plug) to the A V receiv er’ s PHONES jack. Notes: • Always turn d own the v olume before connecting your headphones. • While the headphones plug is inserted in the PHONES jack, the speakers are turned off.
41 Basic Operations —Continued The Music Optimizer function enhances the sound quality of compressed music f iles. Use it with music f iles that use “lossy” compression, su ch as MP3. Note: The Music Optimizer function only works with PCM digital audio input signals with a sampling rate below 48 kHz and analog audio input signals.
42 Listening to the Radio For AM/FM tuning to work properly , you must specify the AM/FM frequenc y step used in your area. Note that when this setting is cha nged, all radi o presets are deleted. Note: This procedure can also be perform ed on the A V recei ver by using its [SETUP] b utton, arro w buttons, and [ENTER] button.

69 T r oubleshooting —Continued The subwoofer produces no sound • The subwoofer outputs no sound while only speaker set B is on. T urn on speaker set A. • If the source material c ontains no audio in the LFE channel, the subw oofer produces no sound.
70 T r oubleshooting —Continued • Make sure that the A V receiver is not subjected to direct sunshine or in vert er -type fluorescent lights. Relocate if necessary . • If the A V receiver is installed i n a rack or cabinet with colored-glass doors , the remote controller may not work reliably when the doors are closed.
